It looks like the call is connected but who can be sure when there is no proper way to troubleshoot!?! ### 2/5 — App launches all the time interrupting work *2026-04-12* Our HOA replaced a gate in this became the app we had to use. Don’t ask me why they chose it with a two star rating, but the company lives up to it stars. The app ghost-launches no matter what you’re doing on your phone even when nowhere near the gate nor wanting to use the app. It is very interruptive this way. Videotaping your kids volleyball game Cellgate is gonna get you. Trying to call 911 Cellgate is going to launch in the middle of your call. When you actually want to use the app, there are no less than four taps to get the gate to open, based on how many steps you have to get through before the gate (our HOA) then exit or entry, then something else, then open. We’ve basically come to launching our app more than 500 yards away from the gate to have it open by the time we get to the gate. Lately the app hasn’t been working well and gate Internet is down. The only thing I like about it is that I can let anyone and everyone through if I launch my app 1000 yards before I reach the gate so I do not have a line to wait on. I will open the gate repeatedly until I get to my turn. The other thing I like is I can do this remotely so if there’s a service person waiting at the gate, they don’t ever use the keypad. They just call me and I buzz them through. I’m sure the HOA loves me for it but then we love them for putting in a gate with a low star app. ### 2/5 — Please add CarPlay *2026-04-11, version 4.0.56* Please add Siri/Car play capability. The car is the only place I use this app. At minimum, please add shortcut capability so I can at least automate it myself. For example, I will be able run a Shortcut with Siri or at specific location. ### 1/5 — Horrible for multi-gate properties!!! *2026-02-14, version 4.0.54* It’s 2026, a gate system like this should be able to easily toggle between multiple gates and properties within ONE LOGIN. You have to have a different email for each gate, so if your community has a main entry gate and another gate somewhere else or if you own multiple homes that each have their own Cellgate, then good luck! It’s impossible to have them within the same login. This is shortsighted and poorly designed from a software standpoint. The company says they are “working on this problem” but it’s been years with no solution. I recommend GoAccess or a different company that can easily switch between different gates and properties. Cellgate get your software engineers to update their code to fix this!!! ### 1/5 — Outdated *2026-02-01, version 4.0.53* Sadly, I’m going to rate this as one star because they refuse update and enter this century. Almost every other brand allows you to utilize CarPlay or voice commands. It’s a very least they should update the app to allow for shortcuts to be created. In an era where people should not be on their phone while driving this app does the opposite For communities that have more than one gate , it requires going through multiple screens in order to open gates. This is a special true if your community has more than one gate. Please update the app so at the very least we can use voice command commands. It hasn’t had any functionality or new features added in many years reading reviews. I don’t ever talk to anyone using this app and I don’t want to give access to my microphone. Stop asking! ### 1/5 — A pinnacle of technical incompetence *2026-05-30* There could not be a worse option. Do NOT let your HOA pull you into this garbage. App lags. Video calls rarely work. The phone key drains your battery using Bluetooth in the background. The key fobs are propriety and over priced. The physical key readers have a multi second delay. The callbox can’t make regular phone calls - you need their 2009 trash app installed. Don’t even think about getting your guests through the door. Making user changes to their database don’t actually go through 9 out of 10 times. They have a cap on your password length! Let’s not be too secure! This product could not be more backwards. I can’t even imagine the ongoing costs to keep this system running. A pinnacle of technical incompetence. Well done CellGate 👏 ### 1/5 — Not reliable *2026-05-26* The app is not being supported by the company. No development is being done. The call delay is so long ie when a visitor calls from the gate it can take over a minute for the call to reach my phone and even then I often can’t open the gate because the watchman is off line and I get a failure to open msg. To fix it the company says for me to go and unlock the box remove a wire to shut off power wait 10 seconds and re connect the wire and wait for the box to reset. Why does the box constantly need resetting? It is such a pain. For $40 a month I get maybe five days of functional time. The system software takes time to get used to but adding new members is easy. I recommend adding more notes to streamline this process. We have been using these for over 5 years. The interface is simple, the app has performed very well. New beefed up tech support has been super helpful with user questions. The cell reception beats out everybody else in class. Awesome for communities with card readers and EZTag (trascor) readers. Highly recommend these beautiful bright telephone entries for apartments and HOAs!!! Sooo much better than the old stainless Casio calculator looking units we replace. Use them, you will be absolutely pleased! ### 5/5 — Home Owner Review *2022-05-31* We bought the Cellgate for our main gate and so far after a month it has been working fantastically. I think a lot of the reviews are from apartment owners. I have a few bars of cell coverage at the gate and it doesn’t seem to effect it’s performance. You must leave the Cellgate app open all the time to make sure it works. We are really happy with all the features and the performance of the entire system.
