My criticism lies more in the service itself like frequent changes of reward rates with often little or no warning. Another problem is with withdrawals; sometimes it takes a few minutes and other times it may take 20 hours or more with the only explanation from Celsius support being “network congestion” which I don’t blindly believe to be true. Another criticism I have pertains to the fact that if you wish to change withdrawal address Celsius requires a 24 hour wait time. I don’t think this is necessary when you already have 2fa enabled or at the very least allow whitelisting of more then one address at a time. Finally, the reward rates Celsius offers aren’t that great compared to some other competitors in the space. I have lost nearly 200$ in just some days and there is absolutely no chance in getting it back. If you put small amounts of money every week, you will lose it every week due to the horrible instability of crypto currency. The worst part is the so called “interest rates” will will never rise, they will only stay the same or fall This app is not worth considering for anyone unless you are willing to put more than 1000 dollars daily. Otherwise you will lose big amounts of your hard invested money into the risky rides of crypto currency. ### 2/5 — 1st impression: app failed, terrible support automation *2022-01-17, version v4.11.0* After creating my account I attempted to complete the identity verification process, however the app fails to take a photo of my driver’s license. I tried several different types of lighting, backgrounds and focal lengths. The app simply fails to take the picture and there is no apparent button to manually trigger the camera. try to get support to resolve this was super aggravating. In the app, the path to get support Is a bit of effort to find. They’re first hoop involved using an automated chat bot for support and it was a frustratingly useless endeavor that only resulted in ridiculous wild goose chases through the navigation tree to irrelevant q&a’s. Somehow ended up at the website support request form the offered a similarly frustrating experience just trying to submit a support ticket via the web form. I was unable to do so because of two things: first, FaceID, though ENABLED on my device, kept telling me it was not enabled and to go to security settings. I did to verify it IS ENABLED. Second, when attempting to enter the pin, it would not pull up the keyboard nor allow me to use the connected magic keyboard. That was while the magic keyboard was in place - the way I use my iPad usually. Once I removed the magic keyboard, the app keypad came up and I was able to log in. NOT COOL. Only then was I able to log in and enable FaceID. ### 2/5 — So difficult and inconvenient to use *2021-08-26, version v4.10.0* The most annoying and difficult to use app I’ve ever experienced. Setting up bank accounts to purchase in the app was insanely frustrating but ok, security-got it. Then sent money- through gem? Or Wyre? Both? Not totally sure. First few transactions failed then had to do the bank account verification again to include retaking my personal photo, drivers license phote, etc a million times because it kept having issues uploading… then finally after roughly 10-12 days about half of my transactions went through. Then after a week or two, I wanted to purchase more only to find out I had to upload a picture of my license again- which failed and subsequently cancelled my transactions… then I tried to update my security settings but not sure about an authenticator app? So I need 17 accounts just to operate this thing? I love making money like the next guy but the 8 cents I’ve made over the last few weeks is not worth all this. I’m quite literally over this- maybe a help section or something to explain to newbies what this crap is and how it all ties in? Idk- frustrating to know I can make money but don’t have the time to sit down and do proper research to figure out what all this means and how it works. ### 2/5 — Issues with data and app transparency *2021-08-12, version 4.9.1* Firstly it was incredibly difficult for me to get verified to use the app. I am transgender and I had a legal name change several years ago, which has not been an issue for any of the other many financial and crypto apps I use. But after 1-2 weeks, the third party service they use told me I needed to email them a copy of my social security card (?!) and when I expressed concern they claimed it was safe and normal. Secondly, the app has so few features and everything has been so overly simplified, it is impossible to navigate. It’s a huge guessing game; did my deposit go through? Have to wait 5 business days to find out. Am I earning interest automatically or do I have to take further action? Completely unclear still. Good ideas, horrible execution so far. ### 5/5 — Continued improvements *2021-07-28, version 4.9.1* I’ve been earning interest for the last couple of months. New to the App but have been impressed with the UI and ease of use. Had some initial problems which took a day or two to get addressed, turned out KYC was backed up and I have misspelled my email address. Subsequent tech support questions have been answered quickly by email. Would love to see help and support communication integrated into the app. But so far very happy overall with the app and the integrity of the company. A competitor has taken several days to respond and explain accreditation issues, pulled my money out of the competitor account because I didn’t feel the same trust. Celcius has frequent and open AMAs (Ask me anything) with the founder taking hard questions. And now moving base from EU to US is additional good news. Hope they don’t deal with regulatory issues here like other crypto companies! ### 5/5 — Excellent Product *2021-07-28, version 4.9.1* I have accounts with several yield earning platforms - BlockFi, Nexo, and Voyager. It’s not an easy space to differentiate yourself, but what Alex Mashinsky has built in Celsius is special. 80% of profits distributed back to the community, weekly sessions with customers, transparent communication (and real-time updates through the in-app Cel Community feature) about how yield is generated, and the highest yields you can earn in the industry are all reasons that Celsius is at the top. Do your own research, but I am moving currently moving my digital assets to Celsius. ### 1/5 — Ultra-controlling and very difficult unnecessarily *2021-06-27, version 4.9.0* I’ve used a lot of fintech apps and this is the worst. They put so much effort in but it all seems to be wasted. I wanted to log in but needed to change my PIN, I had to make a video of myself holding a napkin I wrote a date on and hold up my drivers license. Other apps might just send you a pin change email or confirm your identity with a couple of security questions. Then I needed to update my address in the app. You’ll have to go through customer support to do that too. There’s no way to update your address yourself. They don’t trust you for that even though you had to jump through 10 hoops to log into the app. If you want every aspect of your decentralized, uncensored cryptocurrency to be controlled by a centralized, censoring, and very picky app, this is the app for you. Good luck getting anything done. ### 1/5 — Chilling private data collection protocol *2021-06-12, version 4.9.0* To use this wallet, you have to go through the now standard KYC process. I read these complex, long-winded, legalese TOS & Privacy agreements before consenting. The THIRD PARTY this wallet company contracts with to process and hold private data says they’ll hold the data for a year even after we’ve decided to stop using their service. And there’s even ambiguous reference to that timetable possibly being extended and our data being shared as “needed.” Then they admit that (other?) third party operators will have access to our private data (passports, driver’s licenses...). No amount of interest is worth the increasingly invasive and risky verification hoops you have to jump through to participate in sectors of the supposedly for-the-people new fintech industry. Who compensates us if/when there’s a data breach or in-house malicious corporate agent? A few years ago, our family suffered the expensive, drawn-out legal/financial costs of having to salvage our identity after a big tech company’s data breach. Never again! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — No communication and delays galore *2022-05-12, version v5.1.0* Do not put your assets as collateral with these guys. Do not put your assets on this platform if you intend to use or transfer to other wallets. They make you use an approved wallet destination after 24 hours of waiting. You can basically only send to one address per 24 hours. If you want to send 10 ETH to one Wallet and 5 ETH to another wallet, don’t count on this platform. They have no clear communication, have way too many ambiguous statements that are unclear and ultimately will put you in a bad spots. There are way too many limitations with the app and not enough freedom to access or trade. They put roadblocks on purpose so when you’re in a pinch, you cannot solve your issue in time and they take advantage of it. ### 1/5 — Log in won’t auto fill and I keep getting logged out *2022-03-07, version v5.0.0* If you’re gonna make an app that logs the user out once a week, then you should make sure that your log in process is super smooth, and most importantly supports the built in Apple auto fill. As a developer I know a very key feature that separate professional apps, from the ones that are built very cheaply or by developers who aren’t real engineers, is the ability for your log in to support auto fill. If you’re a low level developer you just use a simple text field with no auto fill. If you’re a professional you use a special view type that has log in auto fill built in. Dear Celsius, you should hire better developers. ### 1/5 — Awful *2022-01-29, version v4.11.0* I had the app for a couple of months and all of the sudden, state regulations won’t allow me to earn interest on my crypto. Fine, not their fault. But why would I keep my money with them if I’m not earning any kind of interest. Attempted to move the crypto out of this app to my wallet and it was a nightmare. Took me literally weeks. The address whitelist feature is a joke. By the time the 24 hour whitelist period passes, your wallet’s address expires and you have to start all over. You have to wait for a security email that never arrives for certain coins. Then you finally time it right and you finally get the email, but for some reason the coins never arrive to your outside account. Had to do an insane amount of work to get my money out of this app. Do not recommend using this app at all, whether your state allows interest accumulation or not. ### 1/5 — Too much integration - frustrating set up process *2022-01-27, version v4.11.0* Hi! My family members use Celsius and I thought to give it a try. But I’m stuck with the set up process for weeks now. This is really frustrating. First I had problems with my account info setup. So I had to contact the Gem team. They did help me out but the customer service was soo late. They would get to me after 2/3 weeks of dropping an email. I’m still okay as they did help me out. But please try to improve your customer service Gem team. Now I’m having trouble with the wyre team. They don’t even reply. I type in same information (personal and bank details) everyday just to receive an email from them saying they had cognito issues and wants more information from me. Sure, I can give my info. But what exactly? They don’t even mention what additional details they want. I have called them, left them a couple of emails and heard back nothing. Overall the whole experience is really really frustrating. Celsius as an app might be good. But too much hassle to get an account set up. Please help if possible. Thanks. ### 1/5 — APY is the best, the app is trash though *2022-01-02, version v4.11.0* First off, I’ve looked into Celsius a lot before signing up for their service. I think their intentions towards their community and for crypto as a whole is marvelous. However, I’ve come across a few issues with the app itself. For one, it continues to log me out, forcing to type my email and password again and again and again and I’m getting tired of it. Sometimes it keeps me logged in, other days it doesn’t. Second, I can’t connect my bank to Gem. Only my debit card, which forces me to have to pay a $5 fee every time I decided to buy any amount of any currency. It would cost less for me to use BlockFi, because I can actually connect my bank AND it doesn’t log me out for no reason. Overall, I think the app needs some work, which I could forgive and be patient towards if I didn’t have to pay $5 fees for not being able to connect my bank. And put all your money under your mattress. *2021-12-29, version v4.11.0* It has been two months since I opened an account with Celsius. I had to create a new account due to an email issue and am awaiting my funds to be transferred. It has been TWO MONTHS that they have kept my money from me because of this technical issue. Like, how is that a thing? Their five star reviews are fake. The “founder” (who I’m told by CSRs is “always traveling the world) sounds like a douche. They tell me there are no updates on when I have access to my finances; I’m just supposed to wait. At first it was a week; now it’s FOUR MONTHS?!??Here’s the kicker: they refuse to divulge my account balance. No clue what they’re doing. SCAM! DO NOT USE! DO NOT TRUST! I mean, unless you like taking hard earned money from your pocket and giving it to an inexperienced team running a glitchy app with an inordinate number of tech issues. You’ll be hearing from my attorney. ### 1/5 — Withdrawal Issues *2021-12-03, version v4.11.0* I completed all of the security steps that were suggested when I first got the app. I wanted to withdraw some of my funds, and they locked my account. Originally they said I just had to wait 24hrs to withdraw, then the next day it said to contact a member of their team, so I did. They said that because I used my phone instead of my laptop they locked my funds. Now I’m being forced to complete more security steps like a picture with my license, and a video with my license (which isn’t easy for me at all because I’m by myself in a hotel), and then after that I have to wait 3 working days for my funds to be unlocked. We’re dealing with crypto here; crypto is extremely volatile, and so withdrawals are time sensitive. ### 1/5 — Great concept but the purchasing system lacks transparency *2021-11-23, version v4.11.0* I could sit here and write an essay about my experience with Celsius and their partner Simplex but they already took more of time Time than I have to give. Long story short, when I made my purchase, I was told I was buying the count at $1.87 and I tripple checked with other brokers making sure that was the case. Once I got the confirmation I bought it, I saw that fee was higher than I had agreed to. When I reached out to Simplex, the partner company that handles the money they told me that I bought it at $1.94. To me this was outrageous because either Celsius has a system that’s behind all other CoinMarketCap apps and if that’s the case I don’t even want to bother with it. This is a great app if you don’t care about the accuracy of your purchase. My account is not accessible to me I put a request they respond saying well sorry if you don’t remember which email I used. Why because I used Face ID the whole time and when you get the update now I can’t login or recall my info. They tell me I have one account with money and 2 accounts with nothing. Well if you can hear what I was saying to begin with that I was trying to find which email I used. They have no one to talk to and no one to get back to you. This is ridiculous I can’t believe I listed to a friend to move my money here. It’s only been 2 weeks and already this happening. I have left emails and proof of my transfer along with dates and all my emails. Like seriously they have my ID & info. Just let me log on with Face ID again why does this need to be such a problem. Or ask me to revering myself. If not send my funds back to Coinbase. I have been waiting way to long to not have access to my accounts. ### 1/5 — Apple ID Login Issues *2021-10-01, version v4.10.0* I don’t like to write bad reviews, but I created an account with Celsius two weeks ago. I used my Apple ID to create an account and funded it with quite a bit of money. I ended up upgrading to the iPhone 13 and had to re-login in to Celsius. For some reason it didn’t recognize my account and now created another account with my same Apple ID. I now have no access to my first account and I have no way to reset my password, get access, or verify myself. Celsius has no phone support and their email support doesn’t respond. I wish I could give them my SSN or verify myself or use my phone number or anything, but there is no help and it’s an issue in their system. Now I lost out on all my money and can no longer trust their platform. Someone please respond and figure out an alternative. I need to be able to verify myself and reset my password or disconnect it from Apple ID without concern I will lose total access to my account, but there is no one to talk to. Celsius is one of the most functional, versatile and innovative platforms around. I keep waiting to find a flaw but haven’t in a year so far. I have earned $1500 in rewards (rates fluctuate), have taken loans and payed them back to release my coins, and tested out the new swap function. It’s all very slick. Pros: 1. No fees 2. Swap capability 3. Decent rewards rates 4. Easy loan process and great loan rates. Literally applied for a loan on a Saturday afternoon and received USDC (which you can transfer to coinbase pro and swap for cash for free) within hours. A few weeks later I payed it off and my bitcoin was released within a day. 5. Mashinsky (CEO) is well spoken, answers criticisms, seems to be a solid business man, has raised a ton of VC money (almost a billion $$). Cons: 1. You have to now be an accredited investor for new/increased reward balances (blame SEC, not Celsius though) 2. Other platforms have better reward rates 3. No easy on/off ramp to cash/USD. 4. Your assets are not insured (but they are adding that option in September?). Once this arrives it will be a 5+ star app! Have to admit I’ve been a little spooked by the Luna crash and the Twitter attacks on Celsius but the CEO did a good job in answering these critiques today on the InvestAnswers YT channel. Been using it for over two years. Monday Earn Rewards are consistent and I always look forward to them. Celsius has added so many powerful features such as fee free swaps, borrowing, fiat on-ramps that allow me to buy USDC and the upcoming Credit Card/Debit Card will complete my goal of unbanking myself. There are no such thing as inactivity fees on Celsius. In fact, many things are few free. Also can’t wait for staking as another way to earn yield! There’s so much happening with Celsius. I have never seen a company let you in on all of the inter workings of what’s going on. Once they introduce a good in app buying experience it is game over for the competition. Multiple features within the Celsius App are designed to keep your crypto safe from Hackers. No other platform has whitelisting of addresses and the Hodl mode is also another layer of 24hrs protection. Celsius has never had user funds stolen. No credit check, just crypto as collateral. ### 5/5 — Nothing but greatness!! *2022-01-06, version v4.11.0* CALIFORNIA RATING Only thing I wouldn’t recommend is buying from this app. They use a third party for purchases so the fee isn’t celsiuss’ fee & you could definitely buy cheaper elsewhere. Other than that, Celsius is home of the NO FEES They’ve got a customer service number you can call and talk to a real person which was a good experience for me the time I used it. Nice sign up bonuses and referral bonuses along with APY paying out every 7 days. Celsius is also looking to add swapping (currently in beta) of supported coins (fee free) sometime in the future as of 1/6/22. Also, make sure you prepare to withdrawal your coins early because you must have ONE whitelisted address tied to the coin and takes 24 hours to remove the current address or add a new one. If you’re unprepared, you’re waiting 48 hours to remove and add a new address for withdrawal. Celsius has been very transparent for me and has proved to have good customer service who can explain any issue at hand. They also send out frequent emails to keep you up to date with Celsius news. All of the positive reviews about the platform and app are true. They must have great devs bc the app is incredibly easy and smooth to use. I used to think official websites were safer to use but I used every feature in this app flawlessly. I took a loan out, used customer support and sent and received crypto with no issues.
