### 3/5 — Content it's great!!!

*2026-05-23, version 5.25.1*

It needs improvement, it has many glitches and opportunities for improvements. Ryan should invest more in developers or get a better one!!

### 2/5 — Love the workouts, hate the app

*2026-02-18, version 5.25.1*

Like the title says. The app is incredibly unintuitive. It’s unclear which elements in the app are clickable, progressing through a workout seems clumsy (how do I go backwards to a previous set if I entered the wrong number?), and it isn’t obvious how to remove the default workouts from my calendar. All that said, I do like the workouts provided - they’ve been a great way to shake things up. I think the “strong” app is much closer to what I’m looking for from a workout tracking app.

### 2/5 — App is awful

*2025-11-17, version 5.16.0*

Programming is fine, but this app needs serious work. It never saves your programs you actually want. You come back and different plans are on going that your not using. It's enough to make me not want it.

### 2/5 — This app kills me!!!

*2025-06-03, version 5.16.0*

The UI is fairly easy to use, but closes as soon as you navigate away stopping the timer and restarting your progress.

### 1/5 — Bad business practices

*2025-04-25, version 5.16.0*

Do not give them any of your money. In addition to a poorly designed app, Chalk makes it very difficult to cancel and shames customers in the process. They auto renew everyone without notice and are uncompromising when confronted. Ryan Fischer is a scammer.

### 3/5 — Good workouts, eh app

*2025-04-14, version 5.16.0*

The workouts are good and it’s nice to have the programming done so you don’t have the brain damage. However, the app is inconsistent. Sometimes the area for the amount of weight you lifted isn’t there, just the rep counter. Sometimes the timer is not there. Recently I have a workout I can’t log do to an error which makes it hard to track progress. Again, workouts are good but the app needs work

### 1/5 — Terrible Customer Service and User Experience

*2025-04-02, version 5.16.0*

I’ve had this membership for over three years, terrible user experience and support. Hard to try and find a way to cancel membership and customer support is not willing to help.

### 1/5 — Hard to cancel membership

*2025-04-01, version 5.16.0*

They make it extremely difficult to cancel your membership. I was told it was cancelled two months ago and just found out Ive continued to be charged. I sent them an email and we will see if they take care of it.

Overall a good app and workout structure but be aware that is is extremely hard to cancel.

### 1/5 — Impossible to cancel

*2025-03-31, version 5.16.0*

This App is a total scam. They make it basically impossible to cancel, and the workouts are pretty average and run-of-the-mill. Look elsewhere.

### 1/5 — Account hacked after installing

*2025-03-02, version 5.16.0*

I downloaded and set up this app and I did it through Facebook and as soon as I set it up two days later, my Facebook account was hacked and my bank account was compromised.

### 2/5 — Custom workouts is broken

*2025-02-19, version 5.16.0*

The app is great and workouts are solid, but the UI no longer allows you to add custom workouts properly. Basically just adds it and prevents you from being able to add sets, weight, etc. Greatly reduces the flexibility this once had

### 2/5 — App Crashes

*2025-01-13, version 5.16.0*

App crashes ALL THE TIME. Love the programming. App is terrible

### 3/5 — Needs improvement

*2025-01-06, version 5.16.0*

Overall it’s a good app
Please remove the background audio on the exercises!! This is really bad. Having 2-3 alternatives to each exercise would be helpful.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Buyer beware - cancellation is deliberately gated and the app is garbage

*2026-05-02, version 5.25.1*

This app’s business model relies on people being too tired or too busy to fight through the cancellation maze, and on locking you in long enough that you forget how mediocre the actual product is. Don’t be one of them.

One star is generous.

The workouts themselves are passable. Everything else about this app is not. Before you sign up, understand what you are actually getting into, because they make it extremely hard to leave once you’re in, and what you’re paying for in the meantime is a bargain bin product wrapped in a slick marketing layer.

Let’s start with the app quality, because that is what you’ll deal with day one. This thing feels like vibe-coded slop. It feels like nobody on the team actually uses it. The calendar view is borderline unusable if you want to see your program laid out. You have to click into each day individually to see what’s scheduled, which means if you want any kind of overview of your week, your month, or your full program, you’re tapping through screens like it’s 2010. There is no way to view your full program in a single readable layout. There is no export. There is no print. There is no “show me everything I’m supposed to do over the next eight weeks” button. For a paid fitness app in the current year, this is embarrassing. Competing apps that cost the same or less have had this functionality nailed for years.

The interface in general is sluggish, awkward, and feels stitched together rather than designed. Buttons in unexpected places. Navigation that fights you. Features that feel half-finished. It does not feel like a polished product. It feels like an MVP someone shipped two years ago and never came back to improve. Reviews on the Play Store mention crashes when searching for exercises and broken supersets functionality. The Android back button closes the entire app instead of going back. Basic stuff. Stuff a competent dev team fixes in a week.

Now the real problem. There is no cancel button in the app. Let me say that again. You cannot cancel your subscription from inside the app you signed up through. There is also no clear cancel button on the website. Signing up takes about thirty seconds and one tap. Cancelling is a completely different experience designed to wear you down.

When you finally hunt down the cancellation flow, you are forced through a fifteen-question Typeform survey asking why you want to leave, what you didn’t like, what would make you stay, and on and on. This is not feedback collection. This is friction engineered to make you give up and just keep paying. After you complete the entire interrogation, the app does not actually cancel anything. Instead it spits out an auto-populated email that you then have to manually send to their support team essentially asking them, please, if it’s not too much trouble, would they consider cancelling your subscription. That’s the cancellation process. An email. That you have to send. After answering fifteen questions. To request something they should let you do with one tap.

Their terms also require fifteen days advance notice before your renewal date or you get billed for another full cycle. Combine that with a cancellation flow that requires manual processing on their end and you can probably guess how this plays out. People get billed during the back and forth. People get billed because their email “didn’t go through.” People get billed because the support team takes their sweet time replying.

This is not how legitimate subscription businesses operate. Netflix, Spotify, Apple, every reputable service lets you cancel with one tap from inside the product. The FTC has a rule called Click-to-Cancel specifically because of companies that pull this exact stunt. Cancellation should be as easy as signup. It is not even close here.

A few specific warnings:

The subscription is billed through Stripe, not through Apple. That means you cannot cancel it through your iPhone Settings or your Apple subscriptions page. Apple has no control over this billing. If you assumed the App Store gives you a safety net the way it does for other subscriptions, it does not apply here. You are dealing directly with the company and their cancellation rules.
The “free trial” rolls into a paid subscription automatically and the friction to stop it is enormous compared to the friction to start it.
If you are already stuck in this and trying to get out, your fastest path is to dispute the charge with your credit card company. You can also file complaints with the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov, your state’s consumer protection division, and the Better Business Bureau. Document everything. Take screenshots of the cancellation flow. Save every email. Credit card disputes generally side with consumers when there is clear evidence the company obstructed cancellation.

Step back and look at the whole picture. You’re paying a recurring subscription for an app that feels like it was thrown together, that gatekeeps basic functionality like seeing your own program at a glance, that hides cancellation behind a maze, and that requires manual approval to let you leave. Why? There are dozens of fitness apps with comparable or better programming, real interfaces designed by people who care, real cancellation buttons, transparent billing, and customer service that doesn’t treat you like a hostage when you want to leave. Hevy, Strong, Caliber, Future, FitBod, Centr, Nike Training Club, and many others operate like normal businesses with normal products. Pick literally any of them instead.
Save yourself the headache. Do not sign up. If you already did, get out now and start the chargeback process before your next renewal hits.

This app’s business model relies on people being too tired or too busy to fight through the cancellation maze, and on locking you in long enough that you forget how mediocre the actual product is. Don’t be one of them.

One star is generous.

### 1/5 — Warning! No way to cancel!

*2026-03-12, version 5.25.1*

This app is a borderline scam. Once you sign up you had better be happy paying because there is NO way to cancel. I can’t believe Apple allows this? 🤬

### 1/5 — Don’t use this platform.

*2026-03-06, version 5.25.1*

I signed up for a free trial and did not intend to purchase the program. Apparently I’ve been charged for a year and was charged again this year on auto renewal. I could not find where I could sign in to actually cancel. I asked for a refund explaining the scenario and then they proceeded to tell me I needed a 30 day notice to cancel. I didn’t even know I was subscribed. They can clearly see I haven’t used the program. Truly do not use this platform. They are awful to deal with.

### 1/5 — Scam to Take Your Money

*2026-01-14, version 5.16.0*

I signed up for a 7-day free trial. I quickly realized it wasn’t for me and went to cancel, but I couldn’t find an option to cancel on the website. I didn’t remember putting in my payment information and figured I was good. 3 months later I realized I being charged monthly and had to go through hoops to try and find an email to contact them at. I finally found it and they cancelled my account without issuing any refund for any month. Take your hard earned money elsewhere, there’s plenty of other options out there.

### 1/5 — Dont ever sign up

*2026-01-10, version 5.16.0*

Awful experience, i cant un subscribe !!

### 1/5 — Can’t cancel

*2026-01-06, version 5.16.0*

Bad customer service. I’ve asked to cancel numerous times and they just charged my credit card again. Would not recommend unless you want a lifetime membership that keeps renewing.

### 1/5 — Absolute scam

*2025-11-08, version 5.16.0*

Will charge you without permission. Absolute scam

### 1/5 — Horrible user experience and cannot cancel

*2025-09-22, version 5.16.0*

I was really excited for this app to help guide my workouts but unfortunately it’s horrible. This is the least user friendly app I’ve ever experienced and there is currently nowhere on the app or website to cancel my membership. I had to send a message and am waiting for a response. Save yourself the headache and get another workout app that actually works.

### 1/5 — Not worth it

*2025-09-10, version 5.16.0*

The workouts are great on this app but the functionality is complete trash. Constantly shuts down, doesn't record workouts, and very hard to get back to your last workout if you're not following one of the group workouts for that time period. Also they make the website extremely difficult to navigate and see your account, make changes, billing, etc. you have to email them and hope for a response. Brian is a con artist and only cares about getting money for his next multi thousand dollar watch or car.

### 1/5 — If negative stars were an option

*2025-08-12, version 5.16.0*

Was only interested in the 7 day trial. Good luck trying to cancel the subscription. You won’t hear back from their support for days. Down right awful business practices.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Consistent progress, real results

*2026-06-21, version 5.25.1*

Before Chalk I spent years wandering the gym without a real plan. The FBA program gave me structure and purpose and for the first time I’m seeing noticeable changes in my body and strength. What makes it even better is the flexibility. If my schedule gets busy and I miss a day, it doesn’t throw off the entire week/program. It’s easy to follow, fits into my life, and keeps me making consistent progress.

### 5/5 — Best fitness app on the market

*2026-06-21, version 5.25.1*

I’ve been extremely impressed with the Chalk performance training app and programming provided. The app is very easy to follow which helps me stay consistent and confident in my training. Especially as someone who isn’t the most confident when It comes to lifting in the gym. One of the features I value most is how it tracks progress and thoughtfully progresses workouts over time, ensuring I’m continually challenged without feeling like I’m repeating the same routine. I personally follow the FBA program which feels intentional, structured, and tailored toward long term results. Chalk has taken the guesswork out of fitness and has made it much easier to stay motivated and focused on reaching my goals.

### 5/5 — Chalk is a game changer

*2026-05-25, version 5.25.1*

I’ve been doing Chalk for 3 years and it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Structured workouts, video tutorials, tons of resources including meal plans and macro counters

### 5/5 — Great Program

*2026-05-23, version 5.25.1*

This is a great program! I work out on my own in my garage 4 mornings a week and I have noticed wonderful strength and mental gains from the programming. I switch through out the year between the FBA Program and the S&C programs. I think it’s also great that if you don’t like one program you have a wide range of options to choose from. This is well worth it if you are someone who needs a plan and a path to get stronger physically and mentally.

### 5/5 — Great

*2026-04-12, version 5.25.1*

I’ve been using the app for about 8 months and so far it’s worked great. The videos make it easy to do the workouts and the plans are awesome. Glad I spent the money.

### 5/5 — The best workout app

*2026-04-12, version 5.25.1*

This is the best workout app I’ve had the good fortune to use. I love the access to the programs, the tracking of my workouts and more so the tutorials that help guide me. This is a lifestyle app that will give you the results you’ve been looking for.

### 5/5 — Custom workouts

*2025-06-17, version 5.16.0*

Would really like to be able to add custom workouts, sets, reps, and rest timer modifications. Right now, the app does not allow for that

### 5/5 — Best online program training App

*2024-07-13, version 5.13.1*

CHALK is an exceptional performance programming app that is great for all levels. The app’s intuitive design makes navigation easy, while its community workout plans makes your training challenging and fun. Multiple different training plans complete with video demonstrations and detailed instructions, you’ll never run out of variety. I have been with Ryan and CHALK since 2019 and it has completely changed the way I train.

### 5/5 — Great workouts + low cost

*2024-07-13, version 5.13.1*

I’ve been using Future for 3 years, and my husband has been trying to get me to join CHALK for months. I joined for the July challenge and I’m sold! I’ve already lost 2.5 pounds in just 3 days! I’ve decided to switch over and can’t wait to see the results after the month is over. The best part is the price—CHALK for a year costs less than one month of Future. Highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Intelligent Training

*2024-06-15, version 5.13.1*

Love this app! Ryan’s program options with Chalk keep you motivated and excited to show up. I’m following the Full Body Program currently, HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The programs and movements are easy to follow, log, and adjust according to your fitness level. I’ve made more progress in my 40’s than I ever have before. You can’t find a better option, I’ve tried about every app out there.
