Bugs lead to more ads. *2026-07-21, version 7.31.12.1* Such an amateurish feeling app. When playing the content it’s okay, but then it transitions to ads (yeah okay don’t like ads, but necessary evil for free content)…but then it fails when switching back to content meaning you have to close the app and restart, which means….more ads. Subtitles don’t work? Closing the app fixes, but guess what? More ads. Content freezes? Closing the app fixes, but guess what? More ads. If I was cynical I’d say the app is deliberately flaky because the fix is always a restart, which always spans….more ads. Did I mention that whatever you do to fix issues, there are ads? ### 1/5 — Stopped Working on iPad *2026-07-15, version 7.31.12.1* Used to work and has now stopped. Uninstall and reinstall just get a blank screen whenever I open it. I have deleted it and downloaded it again and it still won’t get beyond the spinning wheel of doom after entering my log in details. It’s the same for both my iPhone and iPad. However, it is impossible to find them on the app, which appears to have been designed to make it as difficult as possible for users to find anything they want. Why do consumers keep getting piles of steaming horse t*rds for apps? Display does not fill the whole screen. ### 1/5 — When will the cast option return? *2026-06-30, version 7.31.12.1* I submitted a review on May 15th and again on June 6th (following an update to the app) regarding there being no cast option so I am unable to watch Channel 5 on my television as I can only do so by using Google Chromecast to cast Channel 5 to my television. There is a developer response on June 11th to another reviewer with the same cast issue which mentions that there will be a fix in the next update: When is the next update? And will that update definitely have the cast option returning? ### 1/5 — Error: Unknown *2026-06-28, version 7.31.12.1* Very poor streaming service. Almost impossible to watch a series without the Error: Unknown message appearing after each episode and yet the adverts play perfectly fine each time you retry and watch ### 2/5 — Glitches *2026-06-24, version 7.31.12.1* This app is routinely problematic. Today I had the thrill of having 2 adverts being shown simultaneously....12 adverts....great! Then after all of that they showed a couple of ads up coming programs before I realised it wasn’t the episode I wanted being showed. So then you go through the whole procedure again. Please allow us to linking in the the episode before the ads. But I guess it’s because channel 5 is just greedy for advertising money. Rather annoying. ### 4/5 — Rather too full of adverts *2023-11-03* I appreciate that Channel 5 need to make money, and ordinarily have no issue with advertising. However, I am currently in the middle of a thirteen ad long intermission in the middle of “All Creatures Great and Small”. This intermission does give me the opportunity to right a snarky review of the app but is otherwise of no benefit to anyone since I’ve no idea what was advertised. Other commercial tv providers allow me to pay them money to avoid ads: I don’t see ads when using ITVx or Four. Genuinely, I’m sure that three or four quid a month would give Five more money than they get from me watching the tales of North Yorkshire veterinaries. ### 3/5 — Struggle to watch following episodes! *2026-08-21, version 7.32.6.1* Over last 4 weeks when I’ve watched an episode of a programme and waiting for the next one to start and it doesn’t then I get there’s been an error, this has happened over various different programmes, which I watched on my iPad! ### 3/5 — Frustrating! *2026-06-13, version 7.31.12.1* Where has the cast option gone? No thanks. I have given a star more than most reviewers as I feel at least we get free access to your shows but it really isn't good enough. The last version of the app you only had to watch each set of ads once and the app would usually remember where you left off. I spent 10 minutes trying to find the location of the show I had started watching and each time I passed through an add break the app would freeze, play the ad and move on. Come on, this is 2016. TV players have been around for over 10 years. Also, do I have to reconfirm my age every show. It seems a bit pointless as if even I were a kid I would just confirm my age and still be able to watch the unsuitable content.
