### 3/5 — Good but not worth $10

*2020-06-02, version 1.0.1*

The game itself is pretty good! Graphics aren’t phenomenal and it’s a bit dark but overall decent. However I think paying $10 is a stretch for this game and I should’ve done more research besides just look at what the app said. If I could go back I would. $5 I think would be enough for the game.

### 4/5 — Good gameplay

*2019-09-15, version 1.0.1*

Solid game and gameplay, wish the developers put more into the single player campaign

### 4/5 — Training Only. Needs closer zoom in.

*2018-12-20, version 1.0.1*

I will update as I progress, but after weeks of watching video tutorials and videos I finally made the $10 plunge. I figured how can a 700 MB game be worth a flip, a 3.8 rating and it’s a little expensive. I also decided that my review should be based on knowing what I am doing versus thinking I can just go win.
The tutorial is very easy to understand and in depth and even though it’s a bit on the AI side (very difficult) it’s extremely rewarding when it works. There is a lot to think about, so far everything is well balanced except it seems the bad wizard can summon so many bad guys it’s a little unfair but I would have won the last round except I jumped out in front thinking it was a swing instead of a lighting bolt. DEAD. I am only diving it a 4 because I wished it would allow for more zoom in so more detail could be seen. I’m excited to actually play. Only on the third tutorial, trying the specialized ones and yes, it’s hard but FUN.
Hint to developer: The camera controls work better than X-com’s. Zoom, rotate, etc. but it’s freaking addictive.

### 4/5 — Pretty awesome

*2018-09-30, version 1.0.1*

Ok so first things first, this game is hard. Really hard. It’s got a learning curve about as steep as Everest. But it’s good! After much trial and error, I’ve got the hang of it pretty well now, and even now the game is super challenging. It can be very frustrating getting beaten by the computer, but in a good way. I love a challenge and this is definitely that. The cards you get and strategizing what to play and when to bluff, it’s all very fun.

The reason I gave 4 out of 5 is mostly aesthetic. I would have loved to see variability within the types of staffs and armor. There are 3 types of armor catering to different play styles, but within those, all armies of their type look identical. The same goes for the staffs. While this isn’t a huge deal, more customization would have been neat. Also more armor types would be cool as well.

Over all, I have to say this game is really good. Throwing my phone down after getting smashed is frustrating in the moment, but that’s what marks a good game. I like a challenge!

### 4/5 — Solid Turn-Based Strategy Game

*2018-09-27, version 1.0.1*

A sci-fi hardcore take on the turn-based strategy genre.

There’s immediate complexity that means a high learning curve and satisfying tactics.

The graphics are dark and brooding, appropriately setting the stage for the type of game you’re playing. This isn’t clash of (fill in the blank). This is a true strategy game.

The unit selection and targeting could use some refinement, but the core game more than makes up for any UI concerns.

If you’re a serious strategy gamer, you’ll get your money’s worth. The price is well worth the gameplay that’s there. People don’t balk at spending $10 for a starter pack for CCGs. This gives more value for your money than comparable games.

### 3/5 — I like it...

*2018-09-24, version 1.0.1*

I like the concept and have been really enjoying it on my iPad... My two big complaints are that I can't sync my game between my devices and it is incredibly frustrating to play on my iPhone x... Because you have to swipe the skills to use them it's 50/50 if I'll get the card or the phone will register it as a swipe up and close the game... I wish there was an alternate method of selecting spells

### 5/5 — Epic!

*2018-09-21, version 1.0.1*

This is an AMAZING game. If you are looking for an EXTREMELY deep strategy experience. Start with the tutorial so you can get a grasp on the basic mechanics. Then prepare to be immersed in the depth! Simply stunning 😊

### 5/5 — This game is great!

*2018-09-20, version 1.0.1*

A lot of replay value for just $9.99
The strategy to this game is challenging but very fun. Keep up the good work devs!

### 5/5 — Just what I wanted

*2018-09-19, version 1.0.1*

It’s been tough scratching this itch I’ve had for a very vague idea of a strategy game I didn’t know how to look for. TouchArcade sent me this way because people seemed to like it in the forums, and so do I. I play Magic the Gathering as my primary hobby, so I was initially wary when I learned this involved cards, because I can scarcely afford doing Magic justice and won’t get involved in another full on collectible card game of that sense, but this is different- it’s totally self contained and doesn’t feel intimidating. The premise and delivery are awesome. We need more like this on mobile. Don’t give up on this, devs. I want you to do well so that awesome premium games that respect the players become a new fad.

### 5/5 — It’s great, but...

*2018-09-17, version 1.0.1*

Sometimes when I place a unit down the icon of the the title still stays there. And can we use the same character that we use in the single player mode for multiplayer, because that would be cool and can we please make the single player forge a thing? (I also am having a hard time fighting undeads as they are in my eyes is too powerful)

### 3/5 — Graphics too small on iPhone - hard on the eyes

*2018-09-17, version 1.0.1*

I loved the original Chaos and am excited by this new version. I'm sure it looks great on the iPad but on my iPhone 7, the figures and graphic details are too small, even when I zoomed in to the max. The maximum zoom isn't very much. Please change this! The current graphics on iPhone are hard on the eyes and make playing difficult... I gave up during the tutorial

### 5/5 — B.S I say!?

*2018-09-17, version 1.0.1*

people that r bashing game are low on the ole IQ index in my humble opinion, tons of thought obviously went in to the mechanics as a whole in that it does what it advertises it does and it does very every well-deep,fun,strategy....if u want a game that gives u basically everything and at least has the gumption to charge the full and quite deserved price upfront-then get this game, cause is it actually is what it says it is and that’s worth the price of admission alone

### 5/5 — Great game

*2018-09-17, version 1.0.1*

Really fun to play and has lots of content

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Completely out of date on new devices.

*2022-06-23, version 1.0.1*

On my iPhone 12 the games only uses 4/5 of the screen display so you can’t read hardly any of the text. The screenshots above are enlarged. This is the last time I ever buy any app that’s hasn’t had any updates in 3 years! A waste of $9.99. For the first time I need to find out how to get a refund. What a HUGE disappointment!

### 1/5 — To hard

*2022-05-29, version 1.0.1*

Can’t get past 2nd level.. a big waste..

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2019-08-20, version 1.0.1*

This game feels like a chore more than play. It seems someone decided to make the most complicated game in the App Store. Well they succeeded. I’m sure there are geniuses out there who love this game, but if you prefer your games to be fun and intuitive don’t waste your money. I got mine refunded.

### 1/5 — No~~

*2018-09-13, version 1.0.1*

It's a fun game. It's better to fight directly ~~

### 1/5 — Card game, not a strategy game

*2018-09-12, version 1.0.1*

Pretty lame. Don’t bother if you’re after something like XCOM. They are not similar.

### 2/5 — Needs an update for iPad

*2022-04-27, version 1.0.1*

This is a pretty excellent game, but it’s desperately in need of an update for the iPad. Especially an update to match the newer displays. Hopefully they get that and bring this back to a 5 star game.

### 2/5 — Too dry for my tastes

*2019-01-02, version 1.0.1*

The game seems like it has a high skill ceiling and lots of strategic depth, but much like Go or Chess, this game is far too dry for me. Games can take hours to play out, especially if players are evenly matched and considering each move they make. Could be great for those looking for a slower tactical game with little to no luck involved.

### 2/5 — It’s not strategy it’s cheating

*2018-11-18, version 1.0.1*

I am so tired of games that bias combat towards the AI. It is amazing the that AI units hit on the first strike almost every time and the human units have to make several attempts to strike a blow. Not to mention that the AI wizard always seems to have magic bolt right when it is in range of the human wizard. This doesn’t become about skill anymore but having enough luck to beat the AI. When a game is this broken the price should be severely reduced. So disappointing!

### 2/5 — Not bad, but not good.

*2018-09-18, version 1.0.1*

I think when the Dev’s mentioned X-COM in the description they set expectations way too high. Also the price point for a mobile game also sets expectations very high. This is an interesting strategy game but it lacks polish and anything that really captures the player. I played it for a few hours but the entire time I never really enjoyed myself.

Those looking for an X-COM-Esque experience should get Darkest Dungeon or Warhammer Quest. This game doesn’t scratch the X-COM itch and leaves you wishing there was more to it than there is.

I’m sure the devs tried very hard but as a strategy game fan I can’t recommend this for $10 when there are such better options in the App Store.

Also this should not be allowed to be an iPhone game. GUI is so small and is clearly meant for the iPad. Allowing it on the iPhone is a clear cash grab and not in the interest of the player.

### 2/5 — Horrible, confusing, frustrating

*2018-09-16, version 1.0.1*

I had high hopes for this game given the fact that it’s from “the creators of X-COM”. What a disappointment if that’s truly the case.

The controls and mechanics are not intuitive in any way. The graphics are pathetic if you’re coming in expecting anything like X-COM. Don’t waste your time with this game.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fantastic strat. game with depth. Don’t understand the low ratings

*2021-03-23, version 1.0.1*

Maybe it’s just not for everyone. But I have a suspicion that some folks just are not “getting it’ perhaps because they are used to the crappy P2W or “addictive” gameplay that is built literally on slot machine psychology. that’s the only way I can understand people giving this a mediocre score. maybe it was just a bit too pricey? i don;t get it, the game is among the more novel, interesting and satisfying tactics game that I’ve played.

### 5/5 — Good game

*2020-05-10, version 1.0.1*

Please port XCOM2 and make more games like this. Sadly no more games like this nowadays

### 5/5 — One of the best turn based strategy games for IOS

*2019-05-24, version 1.0.1*

I never write reviews, but feel compelled to write one for this app because there is such a disconnect between the rating and my experience of the game. I have pretty much every “top 10” strategy title from the last 5 years on my iPad. This game is one of the best. I think the reason that it has a number of negative reviews is that the developers have deliberately chosen not to explain the game play mechanics much in the tutorial, to reinforce the story. Once I figured out some of those mechanics, such as the ability to summon illusions, the ability to burn unwanted cards, and the ability to bring mercenaries into a game which carried over to the next game if they didn’t die, the game got much easier to win. Not easy, but I didn’t lose every time.

Things I like about this game:
- Great and varied gameplay, with character building, tactical battle management, and a campaign mode
- Great balance in strategy of offense and defense
- Not pay to play, can play offline
- Capable A.I.

For anyone who wants a meaty strategy game that doesn’t have all the hinky pay mechanisms of most App Store games, I highly recommend this.

### 5/5 — Second time buying the game!

*2018-11-23, version 1.0.1*

This is the second time Im buying this game.
First time was on steam. Now on IOS. Great game, And great developer.

Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — I guess they never submitted my other review

*2018-10-24, version 1.0.1*

So I will say I love the game , but it gets boring playing with yourself. There are very few on the mobile that play live or the posted with no time constraints . Other than that I had the same problem with another game that did not cross pc/mobile barrier and the mobile version was forgotten about. I hope this is not happening from the beginning.Update: abandoned game, no human players! Waste of money this should be free, DO NOT PURCHASE THE PLAYERS HAVE ABANDONED THIS GAME!

### 5/5 — Great game but time limit takes me out

*2018-10-14, version 1.0.1*

I made it to smoke and mirrors, but this node doesn’t appear to have enough time to complete. I just get booted out even when making great progress and not getting hit by any traps. Is this a bug or intended and I’m missing someway to gain more time?

Otherwise very fun, hard, and creative game.

### 5/5 — Fun tactical wizard battling game

*2018-09-25, version 1.0.1*

Alright guys- here we’ve got a fun, clever, balanced tactical wizard dueling game with a lot of potential and every play mode you could be looking for. There’s a single player campaign, pass and play, and robust live multiplayer and asynchronous multiplayer play modes. There is a global sense of progression as you acquire gear and develop different builds and strategies. There’s no pay to win, every one has a good shot at winning any given matchup. There are a variety of ways to win any given encounter. Can we stop with the whining about “But it’s not X-Com! 1 Star”
If I had one critique it would be that there aren’t enough people populating the multiplayer servers

### 5/5 — Unique and challenging!

*2018-09-24, version 1.0.1*

Love it!

### 5/5 — Awesomeness

*2018-09-24, version 1.0.1*

Sucked me in for a solid 2 weeks. More then I can say for half the crap games I buy. Would have loved for the Quest portion to be longer (something to think about on the next one or update 💪🏽. Just getting into the multiplayer as I write this!

### 5/5 — Very Fun!!!

*2018-09-22, version 1.0.1*

I just finished all 7 parts of the tutorial and had a blast in the process!! Looking forward to the campaign!
