Our family setup is pretty common: parents use iPhones, and the kids share a Samsung Galaxy Tab, each with their own profile. From what I understand, the ideal flow should be simple… parents install the app, set up the family, and create kid accounts. But that’s not what happens. You must not assume every kid in a family will have a phone, or access to parents’ devices to access their accounts. The actual setup process is confusing and unintuitive. Inviting users feels clunky, setting up the family structure is unclear, and there’s very little guidance during key parts of the onboarding. And this is coming from someone who works in UI/UX design, so I can only imagine how much harder it would be for a non-technical parent. Chap has a great concept, and I appreciate the focus on safety and privacy. But the user experience needs serious improvement, especially for families with mixed devices and shared tablets. Hoping to see updates soon that make the setup process match the simplicity that parents expect. ### 3/5 — Has the potential *2025-03-10, version 2.13.2* Has the potential to be good but the chores need to count from when you do them last. I was late one day for vacuuming. My premium share isn’t giving my partner the correct permissions ie seeing chores past 3 days in the future. The rotation doesn’t actually assign the chore to a specific person on a specific day; the only way you can tell it’s your day is if you try to complete the task and you are served a warning. Filtering is broken. It’s just so messy. I removed the connection between Google and Chap, and deleted the app on my phone. Neither the logout nor the delete account buttons are functional! ### 3/5 — Miss OurHome *2023-09-23, version 1.5.4* Our family used to use OurHome app and when looking for a replacement this one seemed to be a condenser. I like that you can rotate chores; however, my changes are not staving. I also wish we could restrict edit rights. My kids will have fun changing the name/order of the chores. I also miss OurHome's reward system. I know there are other apps out there but I don't want to connect to a bank account to it. ### 1/5 — Don't bother *2023-09-08, version 1.5.4* I was really excited at first about Chap. I tried a few other apps but this one was the first that seemed to have the functionality I actually wanted. Unfortunately, it's super buggy. Sending you notifications daily for tasks you've already completed. I emailed support to let them know and they said that they're aware of the issue but because they're working on a major rewrite of the app that won't be finished for at least another 2 months, they aren't going to fix it. That's unacceptable to me and I had to delete the app. I don't want to receive a notification everyday from the app for tasks that are already done. I was conned by their in-app offer of “Lifetime Full access for free” - but when I accepted the offer, it instantly switched to taking a payment of £119.99 from my bank account! I had to go through the rigmarole of requesting a refund via Apple’s Report a Problem page, and then waiting to see if they would agree to refund my money. Fortunately, they did. ### 1/5 — Unhappy with download process *2025-03-04, version 2.13.2* I downloaded this app at the recommendation from Apps Gone Free I tapped on the Lifetime Subscription for free and then found I have been charged $199. Not good salesman ship. Creating an account via Apple ID fails upon FaceID verification, and when trying to create one manually, it rejects every password tried, even when one is deliberately crafted to meet the stated requirements. This lack of basic functionality is completely unacceptable.
