### 5/5 — Essential app for EV drivers

*2024-03-18, version 2.6*

This app is fantastic for EV owners with a modern solar system. The app reads the output from your solar inverter and then allows you to use only solar to charge your EV. Seamless and brilliant.

### 5/5 — Perfect Solution for Complex TOU Rates

*2024-01-15, version 2.5*

This app is perfect for the retires that own a Tesla and are on a TOU utility rate. It allows specific charging times or just prevents you from charging during On Peak hours. Easy to set up and it is an APPROVED TESLA APP.

### 5/5 — Game Changer

*2023-10-19, version 2.3*

This is a must have for anyone who wants to gain full control of charging! It works seamlessly with solar edge PV and Tesla model 3.

### 5/5 — Super smart set and forget solar EV charger

*2023-10-18, version 2.3*

It was a great relief when Charge HQ came along!

Prior to that I’d been monitoring solar production and starting and stopping charging manually.

The app has loads of features catering for all EV usage scenarios and charging requirements.

I don’t have a home battery yet but Charge HQ even supports that as well.

Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Charge la nuit et le jour avec l’excès de production

*2023-10-18, version 2.3*

Convient parfaitement à mon installation fronius + tesla.

### 5/5 — Up and running in 10 mins

*2023-10-14, version 2.3*

I am very impressed with Charge HQ. I have an existing solar system and bought OCPP compliant ZJ Beny charger. The guidance on ChargeHQ's website was perfect and I was up and running in 10 mins.
The app interface is very well considered. A good amount of detail and control. My car is now charging only when solar is available, or if I override it and tel it to charge anyway. Great app.
Look forward to control of other devices one day?

### 5/5 — Great product

*2023-10-04, version 2.2*

Love it.

Bit of mucking around setting it up as we have two teslas and two fronius inverters on two separate phases. No reflection on the product. Just not a typical house.

I ended up setting up two charge HQ accounts, one for each car. Saw the Amber link and set that up too. Works great. Much cheaper. Hasn’t missed a beat.

I set the “always charge” price to 10c/kwh plus solar excess charging. It just works and makes charging the cars a seamless and low cost activity.

Very impressive product. Nice work.

### 5/5 — Aussie innovation at its best!!

*2023-09-05, version 2.2*

Australian government should be promoting this app to the world. Recognise a market leader that could make a global impact.

Tesla ought to buy it and integrate into its own software.

No extra hardware required but a simple software solution to feed excess solar to your car.

Can’t discuss EV’s with friends and family without mentioning Charge HQ. It literally convinces people to go EV path.

### 5/5 — Car running on sunshine

*2023-09-05, version 2.2*

This app is an absolute must to get as much of those precious solar kWh straight to the car's battery. Other than long drives, my car is almost exclusively powered by solar thanks to Charge HQ.
The developer is very responsive and engaged with the user community, which is a big plus.

### 5/5 — Perfect way to charge your vehicle on solar

*2023-09-05*

This app supplies the missing link in the Tesla app, allowing you to capture the excess solar into the vehicle instead of sending it back to the utility. Excellent design, easy to use and understand. And at a reasonable price given what it saves you. Excellent app.

### 5/5 — Tesla solar must-have

*2023-08-21, version 2.1*

Must have for Tesla owners! Out of the box any extra free Solar is siphoned to the car. Much cheaper than buying a car smart charger!

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2023-08-07, version 2.1*

We have a Tesla Model Y, the Tesla wall charger and a Fronius inverter and smart meter. Setup was genuinely painless and we were up and running in 10 minutes - amazing!

It’s a great feeling charging the car entirely from sunlight. Pricing is very reasonable given the work that the devs have put in and the potential cost savings. Thoroughly recommended.

### 5/5 — Promising but can’t manage the basics

*2023-07-12, version 2.0*

I had high hopes and it all looked very promising.

But imagine how let down felt when despite not turning anything on (Charging control turned off, and no schedules set) and the car having a “wait until set”, plugging the car in and Charge HQ starts it charging. And gets all miffed if I stop it outside the app.

If it can’t even manage being turned off what hope does it have for working right when turned on.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Destroyed by Amber

*2026-08-18, version 2.9*

Bought out and now destroyed by Amber , who offer no equivalent product remotely near this price. Pointless destruction of a great app. Just so a big company will have (in their misguided view) less competition.

### 1/5 — It’s closing down

*2026-07-27, version 2.9*

Unfortunately ChargeHQ is no longer available to sign up to. It has been sold to Amber so once again big business has ruined it for the average punter.

### 1/5 — OK with one vehicle, terrible with two

*2024-08-18, version 2.8*

The App almost worked as advertised with one Tesla, but doesn’t cope at all now that I’ve got two.
Great concept but needs a heap of work:

### 1/5 — Scheduled charging doesn’t work

*2023-06-16, version 2.0*

Tried it a few times. Nothing happens.

### 3/5 — Looks like a great app

*2024-02-10, version 2.5*

Calculated the expected savings using chargeHQ to direct solar energy to my EV. The yearly subscription cost consumes 50% of my savings leaving me with $50 savings per year vs not using their app. Not a great savings and this assuming I can absorb all the excess energy into the car battery.

### 3/5 — It’s OK

*2023-08-07*

I’m trying it out because I like data. I don’t have solar, I don’t use the app to control my EVSE. Hourly usage is what I’m looking for. I would like to see a way to export the data so it can be added to a spread sheet.

### 4/5 — อยากให้เพิ่ม

*2023-12-03, version 2.4*

อยากให้ app ทำให้ใช้กับ inverter ของ huawei ได้เลย ผมใส่ api เองไม่เป็น

### 5/5 — Love the app - sad to see it go

*2026-07-06, version 2.9*

This app gave incredible levels of control over your charging setup. It also had incredibly detailed support material, that went to great lengths to answer so many questions and edge cases one could run into when setting up the best way to use your solar, battery, to power your home and EV.

I’m sad to see this excellent product disappear. I only hope Amber can live up to what Charge HQ has laid her foundation for.

### 5/5 — Work with solis

*2026-06-08, version 2.9*

Thanks

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2026-05-14, version 2.9*

This app became the cornerstone of the charging approach for my EV as it allows for excess solar to be directed towards the car.

One thing I would love to see - a SOC graph alongside the generation graphs.

This would help LFP owners such as myself, who only charge to 100% every X number of days (LFP, like other battery types, doesn’t like being at 100%, especially when it’s hot), to see when our last full charge was.

Hopefully the app remains supported since being purchased by Amber.

## Most praised reviews (7 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Troubleshooting problems

*2025-09-22, version 2.9*

App works great. Incredibly helpful organizing my solar, vehicle, and battery charging. And the app authors are experts. They care about customers and ensure success with the app.

### 5/5 — always charge price should be combined with schedule charging

*2025-08-04, version 2.9*

please add this feature

### 5/5 — Just what I was looking for

*2025-06-19, version 2.9*

I was trying to get charge on solar from a Tesla working, only to finally realize it doesn’t work on my car

This app does exactly what I hoped Tesla would provide

I charge my car during the day on excess solar. And at night, I can book a grid base charge to ensure the car reaches a minimum charge state

I live in California, under net metering 3.0, which means I get virtually no credit for selling electricity back to the grid. Therefore, using this app to capture access, solar energy is just what I wanted.

### 5/5 — Fantasy solar charging integration

*2024-10-07*

I was struggling to work out charging during excess solar generation, and these folks did it, and did it very well. Kudos for a great program.

### 5/5 — Extrêmement utile

*2024-06-18, version 2.8*

### 5/5 — No solar? No worries!

*2024-05-23, version 2.8*

Guys, even if you don’t have solar or battery, this app is FANTASTIC at making sure you’re charging when it’s cheap. All you need to do is set up your power providers API details in the app (super easy to do), set a few preferences & you’re off any running. Very happy 😃

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2024-04-04, version 2.6*

I was lucky enough to be referred to this app while it was still free, but it’s so good I’m going to go subscription to support the team behind this. I hope Tesla doesn’t buy them as they’ll screw it up for sure. I found it a bit tricky to set up, but after leaving out some of the options, it did it’s thing like a charm. Can’t believe the Tesla guys with their ludicrous 1/2 gigabyte app can’t offer even part of it’s functionality. Even just the power source tracking makes it so useful, then you’ve got the automatic solar tracking so you don’t have to keep juggling charging rates to make best use of excess solar. Just to clarify, we’ve got a powerwall and a model 3 with the Tesla power router and the Tesla app still doesn’t do half of Charge HQ’s stuff.
