### 4/5 — Good record of energy use

*2026-05-25, version 3.40.0*

This app works very well and provides good insight into the actual charging cost, since it knows the actual National Grid rates. I am a bit confused as to why the kWh reported by Charge Smart (this National Grid app) doesn’t ever match the kWh reported by ChargePoint (the charger on my wall that National Grid pulls data from). It’s close, but never the same for a charging session.

### 2/5 — Nice when it works

*2025-10-10, version 3.29.0*

Using the app I save about $10/month. Most of the time the app works ok, but periodically it goes nuts and either loses its signin to my car or fails to charge at night.
Today it says the car is not plugged in when it is, then it prevented an afternoon charge when I needed one.

I feel like the annoyances are becoming greater than the saving. My Tesla manages off peak charging beautifully without this app.

### 4/5 — Great app

*2025-08-20, version 3.25.0*

Great app to track your charging and see rebates earned. The only issue is the lack of home chargers supported.

### 1/5 — Opting out due to privacy policy

*2025-06-19, version 3.20.0*

Apps wants to know bill amount of vehicle charged at other locations, not sure why this is required.

### 2/5 — Not working reliably

*2025-04-10, version 3.17.0*

I have had this app since March 2024 with two vehicles connected. In January of 2025 one of the vehicles stopped syncing regularly, with just a few charges per month showing up despite the vehicle being charged daily at home. I have emailed back and forth with a technical support specialist who attempted to reconnect the vehicle several times unsuccessfully. I was then told other users are having a similar experience and the issue was escalated for a bug fix. Hoping this gets resolved soon.

### 1/5 — Lack of “real” progress

*2025-03-28, version 3.16.0*

Only supports Volvo EVs from 2022 and back. It seems absolutely outrageous that they can’t integrate new cars into their app / system. Telling me the only way for me to participate in the program is to buy an authorized charger because they don’t want to spend the time to integrate a new 2024 Volvo EV.

### 2/5 — ARE YOU COMFORTABLE GIVING YOUR CAR KEYS TO STRANGERS?

*2025-03-05, version 3.14.0*

Update 03/05/2025

This is what these people are requiring.

There is NO REASON to demand full access to the vehicle. The access they “require” gives them a key to your car. Anyone with access to that data can enter your car and drive away with it.

Update 5/2/2024.
The requirements to give them a key to your car still have not been removed. Dropping my rating.

Been using this app for about a year. Love my rebates! However, with the most recent update, the company has crossed the privacy line. It seems to want a key to your car. It bugs you to pair your vehicle meaning it has the ability to send commands-including start commands- to your car. I’m not OK with this intrusion and they should provide the option of continuing to use the app without this requirement. It worked fine for a year without it so it’s certainly not required in order to function.

### 1/5 — Not able to connect to charger

*2025-02-07, version 3.13.0*

The idea is great, but after emailing back and forth for over 2 months, I am still not able to connect the app with my ChargePoint charger. I get to the point where I add my charger serial number, and repeatedly get the “not able to find your charger” message. Very frustrating that I am not able to receive the off peak charging rates and that I have wasted so much time corresponding with them and no progress has been made.

### 4/5 — Great for the savings

*2024-10-30, version 3.4.21*

Honestly, it’s a great service, love the fact that I can save money. Tied together with the deals to get for the most part a free install. And be able to charge my UV faster is great. I just have one question over the feature that says boost?I don’t know if it does anything or if it’s meant to do something in particular maybe with different chargers, any heads up on this?

### 1/5 — Latest update is atrocious

*2024-08-18, version 3.4.18*

The latest update (around Aug 2024) is terrible. The stats used to show PEAK, OFF PEAK, and OTHER charging. I had plenty in each category in my stats.

Now it says BOOST and UNMANAGED. What the heck is that? Worse, not the stats bargraphs show ZERO differentiation, just a bar of total energy used.

WHERE IS MY PEAK vs OFF PEAK charges? That was accurately helpful and would encourage me to “charge smarter”?!

### 1/5 — Charging times not showing up

*2024-03-01, version 3.3.2*

While the concept is great. This will not work with my Chrysler Pacifica. Only two charging time has shown up so far after almost two months of using this app. One of the times it indicated it as an away from home charge, when it was charged at home. Other showed 2kWh at home charge. Have contacted customer service numerous times, have not been able to fix issue.

### 3/5 — Great App but…

*2024-01-24*

Been using this app for about a year. Love my rebates! However, with the most recent update, the company has crossed the privacy line. It seems to want a key to your car. It bugs you to pair your vehicle meaning it has the ability to send commands-including start commands- to your car. I’m not OK with this intrusion and they should provide the option of continuing to use the app without this requirement. It worked fine for a year without it so it’s certainly not required in order to function.

**Developer response:** Hi T. Rapoza! Thank you for your feedback! We really appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your honest opinion. Sliding back to the previous screen should work but I'll make sure to pass your feedback on to the rest of the team so that we can work towards improving the experience. Have a lovely day! - Jess

### 4/5 — Love this app but enhancements needed

*2023-12-21, version 3.2.5*

Overall this app is great to use. However, it would be better if we could have a breakdown of total energy usage/cost for each month. So this would give us more visibility in terms of the energy usage in a better way.

### 1/5 — Issues with Ford

*2023-12-04, version 3.2.0*

Worked great for awhile, then stopped syncing with ford. Got an email awhile ago acknowledging the issue but clearly fixing it is not a priority for national grid. It’s unfortunate to have a program to promote off peak charging if the system has been broken and unusable for months! It’s also very frustrating to be missing out on credits I’ve earned when it’s national grids fault that they can’t maintain an app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not able to Connect

*2026-05-10, version 3.40.0*

The app doesn’t even pick up the car type.

### 1/5 — Hasn’t worked in a month

Has not been working for my BMW and ends up giving an error at the captcha stage when trying to add the car. They are aware of the issue but no fix yet.

### 1/5 — Awful

*2026-03-31, version 3.38.0*

This app does not work. Multiple problems with the Capcha certification and when I wrote for help I got no support.

### 1/5 — Does not report all the charges

*2026-03-19, version 3.38.0*

App records some of the charging, good enough to get some credit.

### 1/5 — Vehicle connection kept dropping

*2026-03-02, version 3.35.0*

I continue to be dropped from the vehicle connection during charging, which is occurring as frequently as every hour.

This connection was stable in the previous version (v3.31.0) of the application.

### 1/5 — App update

*2026-01-31, version 3.31.0*

The application says it needs to be updated, but I can’t find the update

### 1/5 — Keeps logging you out.

*2026-01-21, version 3.31.0*

You have to login every time and add your EV. What a waste!!

### 1/5 — Totally unreliable

*2025-12-31, version 3.31.0*

I have to reconnect my car every time I open the app. It shows me as away from home when I’m at home. This flat out doesn’t work.

### 1/5 — App won’t connect to national grid

*2025-12-01, version 3.31.0*

I’ve been trying for weeks but this app simply won’t connect to my national grid account. It just gives an unspecified error.

### 1/5 — Drains 12v Battery Constantly

*2025-06-27, version 3.22.0*

I’ve had my Ioniq 5 for 6 months. The first 2 months were great before I was using this app. Once I connected my car to this app via blue link, my 12v battery would start to die every single day. It turns out the app pings cars nearly constantly (every 2 hours) which prevents the Ioniq from going into sleep mode and charging the 12v. Once I disconnected my car from the app, my car is fine again! Fix this issue please the app is literally unusable because it kills my car.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — says i need an update

*2026-02-02, version 3.31.0*

The app is telling me I need to update the app and when I press the button in the app to go to the App Store, the App Store tells me I have the most current app. Other than that this app worked great for the last three months.

### 5/5 — Good app

*2023-07-14, version 3.0.2*

Good app but there something wrong when I try to see the Rebates screen. App freezes

Thank

### 5/5 — Check for underreported supercharger kWh!!

*2023-07-01, version 2.17.1*

I have recently discovered this app severely underreported kWh received from Tesla supercharger sessions. For example 2kWh instead of the 26kWh or 21kWh instead of 54kWh.

Check your actual power received vs what this app reports!! Contact support if it’s wrong.

Hope they fix this bug soon!

### 5/5 — Pleasantly surprised

*2023-03-31, version 2.15.2*

I didn't have high hopes of a well thought out app that actually gives we good data but this is it. I'm able to see my usages going back to forever with greater ease than even the tesla app. Saving money is also always appreciated.

### 5/5 — Good insight into EV charging cost

*2022-11-22*

This app works very well and provides good insight into the actual charging cost, since it knows your actual National Grid rates and also your discount rate based on time of day. Just register your car, and discounts will be applied to your electric bill.

**Developer response:** Hi there, thanks for leaving a great review of Charge Smart MA! We're so glad you're enjoying the app and using it to earn rebates for your EV charging. Have a great day and Happy Holidays!
- Joe

### 5/5 — Every Little Bit Helps

*2022-11-22, version 2.11.32*

I have very much apreciated National Grid for taking the time and effort to make this charge incentive program. While it's new and just getting off the ground (read maybe a bug here or there) it works exceptionally well, and does exactly what it's supposed to do. The system tracks my Tesla charges and very simply provides me a credit at the end of each month. Like getting paid for something I am already doing anyway!! I look forward to National Grid openeing this up to more then one electric car per account.
