It doesn’t work at all half of the time, and the other half it’s mockingly slow and inaccurate. Tried in Dunvegan using app , no success. Called help desk they tried to reset it . No success called a second time eventually got it with . No issues with call handler however app and system is very poor . Chargepoints that don’t work, ambiguous or completely missing instructions, miserable app. Top to bottom an absolute joke. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Avoid or it will cost you *2026-07-28, version 4.4.2* Absolutely waste of time this app zero functionality, you set up an account to avoid their ridiculous preauthorisation amounts £75 yes £75 and it still takes money from you and allows you to attempt charging even when the charge point is broken then you have to wait nearly 10 days to get your money back, their charging network is almost constantly broken and the app doesn’t even alert you to this when you enter the charge point number and tell it what charge socket you are using it will still let you pay just avoid them at all costs. ### 1/5 — Atrocious *2026-07-26, version 4.4.2* App doesn’t work, you never get an email to verify your account and the functionality is abysmal. ### 1/5 — Utterly pathetic *2026-07-08, version 4.4.2* Useless attempt to create a no help app. My 5 year old could do a better job. ### 1/5 — Not a great start! *2026-06-08, version 4.4.2* Well that was frustrating!!! Then have to wait 3 days for a refund. I have tried this at several different chargepoints and the experienceis always the same. It will also decline your payments for no reason and sometimes the app will claim that the your car is getting charged when it’s not. Unfortunately my car only takes the type 2 charger, which has limited stations. I can count on one hand the number of times I was able to charge my car with a ChargePlace charger. The app will show error messages that users should never ever see. Timeout: 10000ms was one I saw when attempting to use a charger near Loch Lomond. It’s so bad that I cannot trust that the chargers work and therefore I actively avoid them now. ### 1/5 — If possible use someone else *2026-04-06, version 4.4.2* Unbelievably unclear which stations you can use with app! App is terrible and will accept you paying for charging station you can’t use. Useless. ### 1/5 — AVOID CHARGEPLACE SCOTLAND *2025-12-28, version 4.4.1* CHARGEPLACE Scotland is the worst charging. I have never once had a successful charge from one of their points, you end up with hundreds of £s on hold because their app is horrific and the rfid cards don’t work either. I have owned a EV for 6 years and will actively avoid all CHARGEPLACE Scotland. ## Most praised reviews (2 highest-rated) ### 2/5 — Unable to start charge session, no further help *2026-05-26, version 4.4.2* Tried using the charge point at Gorebridge Station, having not set anything up before hand. Got past adding my card details, but then got an error "Failed request to ARGOS", with no further info on how to fix it. Tried a couple more times, but had to give up as my train was about to arrive. Luckily there was one last space in the car park. ### 2/5 — Not reliable on Mull *2025-07-13, version 4.4.0* I recently downloaded the app prior to a visit to the Isle of Mull as the hotel has a ChargePlace Scotland charger. On arrival I tried to charge a few times, tried each of the different connectors but alas it didn’t work. There was a faster charger just down the road in Craignure so I went there and tried to use that, again the charge failed and after a few attempts I gave up. The support people were very helpful but ultimately couldn’t get me charging even with remote access to the chargers. They said if I had an rfid card it would probably work and that the problem is with trying to use the app. As a result of the attempts to charge we ended up with £700 of holds on our bank account which was a bit of a shock! Apparently that too wouldn’t have happened with a charge place Scotland or other compatible RFID card. So my advice if you’re looking to travel to Scotland is get a card, don’t try to use this app or you may find you bank balance unavailable while on holiday. I’ve given two stars because when we finally found a charger that the app did work with (In Tobermory) it worked okay and got us going.
