However, after the recent major update it has become an absolute pain. I used to be able to tap on the pre-tax amount to enter the correct number and it would automatically adjust the tax percentage. Now I have to go into settings and guess the tax rate. I NEVER see the tax rate printed on checks, so it’s a long round of trial and error. Bring back the ability for us to enter both pre AND post tax amounts! I can’t just set the rate and forget it since it varies wildly here in this state depending on what you order. Saw the developer tell someone else to put 0% as the tax rate and enter their pre-tax total, but maybe just bring the feature back?! ### 3/5 — Font Size *2026-05-27, version 5.0.3* I've been using this for a long time, but the font size in the updated version is too small. I need an option to change it. ### 3/5 — New UI needs some tweaks *2026-05-04, version 5.0.1* I have been using your app for several years and I always use it to calculate my tip to round the total to the nearest dollar. Super happy! Just a couple suggestions for the new UI. Need a reset button or something. Once you have a full amount entered the delete key doesn't seem to work anymore. I have to kill the app or hit the settings button to reset things. Also as mentioned the round total selection doesn't survive a app reset. Kinda annoying. Look forssyto your improvements! Thanks again. ### 4/5 — Love this app *2026-05-03, version 5.0.1* I have been using this app for years. Makes it so much easier in figuring out the tip. In the past version it remembered your preference as to if you wanted to round the tip, or total or neither. This version seems to default to don’t round each time it is opened. On the plus side, the old version always held the cost of the last bill forcing you to clear it before calculating the tip for the new bill. This version no longer does that! Now if it could just remember my preference to round the tip. Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. ### 4/5 — New Version 5.0.1 *2026-05-02* Have been using or several years now and been very pleased with. However, Sorry to say, but the new version is not calculating the total Tip or doing the proper “rounding” when the Tax is included or even if it is excluded, like in the older version. Could you please take a look at that ? Best tip app ### 5/5 — It opens up finally *2019-08-19, version 4.4.2* I used this handy tip calculator so much I recommended it to everyone when I used it. I was very sad when I tried opening it up after upgrading my phone a year ago. The app said the version was not compatible and when I went to the App Store there were no updates for it. It asked if I wanted to delete the app since no updates were available but I said no I wanted to keep it in hopes that one day the company might decide to update it. So from time to time I would open it up but every time I did it would not open. Until a glorious day, yesterday 8/19/19 I was out for lunch and needed to use a tip calculator. Knowing that this app wouldn’t open like it had done so before I did my usual routine opening up the app with very little enthusiasm and low and behold I see the app open. No knowing if it was too good to be true I stood in shock for a minute. Just looking at the screen thinking ok it’s gonna close automatically and give me an error message. But No! It stayed open. Still shocked I plugged in my numbers and tip percentage and it work, by George it works! There are no ads like before just the simple calc. I recently updated my iOS to 12.4 not sure if that did the trick or the company updated the software finally. What ever the case maybe the gods are shining bright on me today!! Hopefully you guys are able to download this app as it is simple to use but extremely effective! ### 5/5 — Simple and accurate *2017-10-23, version 4.4.2* I’ve been using this app for years, almost to the point where I can’t calculate tips in my head, but that’s a different story. If you don’t believe its accuracy, just enter the correct sales tax amount and look at your receipt and compare subtotal, tax and check total. Mine is always spot on. Some places will give you a suggested tip amount, which in my experience tends to be slightly higher. Splitting a check with friends is a breeze. ### 5/5 — Excellent *2017-10-07, version 4.4.2* Has all the features. Select percentage. Set number to split. Round / Down. Include tax or not. Show detail. No ads! ### 2/5 — Used to be very accurate *2016-07-10, version 4.4.2* I have no idea what happened to Checkplease Lite. The calculations used to be accurate. Now, three different totals show up on the screen. Even the app example in the App Store shows this. I have deleted the app. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Disappointed! *2026-07-17, version 5.0.4* I have been using this application for years, but it has become completely unresponsive since the interface was altered. I attempted to reinstall it, but this proved unsuccessful. Is it due to the fact that the imperial system is not utilized in Canada? Alternatively, is my iOS configured to operate in French? I am uncertain; however, I intend to promptly locate an alternative application. ### 1/5 — It’s wrong *2026-05-07, version 5.0.2* This update sucks it not correct adding total ### 1/5 — Not correct *2026-05-05, version 5.0.1* The app updated and it is not working correctly. On the old version I used to be able to adjust the tax amount because it’s different from city to city. Now I have to go into settings to change it every time. I never should have updated this app. ### 1/5 — Not the same app anymore *2026-05-04, version 5.0.1* When the server brings the check it has the tax already calculated and the different tips to choose from so why recalculate the tax which is different in every county? The app should take the total and calculate the different tips !!! I lost it when I tried to use the app after the update ### 1/5 — Useless after 10 Years *2026-05-03* This app has been on my phone for over a decade. It’s always just worked. But with the most recent 5.0 overall it’s useless. Adding ads, sure I get that. But why change the tip percentage scrolling so you’re forced to use a fixed fee percentages? Delete button only works half the time. But the worst change is to the tip calculation methods. Why am I forced to enter a pretax total for the calculations to be accurate? I am already putting in a tax rate, I should be able to just enter the check total. Please, please, please roll back this version until the bugs are worked out. **Developer response:** Hey mrmrk77, thanks for using the app for that long! Delete button fix is on its way, along with a Clearr button to quickly clear the amount. It was mentioned in another review about the calculation and I will get that taken care of as well. Look for an update this week. I appreciate the feedback and don't hesitate to email with more suggestions or changes you would like to see. ### 1/5 — V5.0.1 Don’t update !!! *2026-05-02, version 5.0.1* If you liked the previous version… you will hate the update… They removed the tip wheel/slider … Now there are fixed buttons for the tip percentage… The app used to remember your settings, like round up balance … Now it doesn’t… Overall not as useful as it was… I’ve been using this app for years … sad I’ll be replacing it… ### 1/5 — Fix the delete button *2026-05-02* Fix the delete button, it only clears the last digit entered instead of the entire amount. **Developer response:** That's on the list to be fixed in the next update. The developer is MIA and seems dishonest when (and if) he does respond.
