### 3/5 — Security

*2025-05-31, version 5.1.1*

How can I trust the security of this app, as in how can I trust this app doesn’t record my login information

### 4/5 — Nice app

*2024-11-27, version 4.0.2*

This app supports linking to Wealthsimple cash account which is a dealbreaker from other apps for me. Sometimes the app can be buggy, but overall I'm having a positive experience.

### 4/5 — Decent app. Rude developer.

*2024-11-13, version 4.0.0*

App privacy statement was broken and informed the dev. Was attacked for fake claims. Dev admitted it was a bug but still was rude in interacting. Changing the rating since I do think the app has potential but I would rather not pay money for something where I can’t even get support and get attacked by the dev.

### 2/5 — Super promising, clean UI, woefully inadequate

*2024-10-17, version 3.1.0*

For a Canadian start-up, I am puzzled why several important quality of life features do not exists here, all within realm to develop somewhat easily:

- Canadian eTransfers often have a unique hash in their transaction statement, this throws off the auto-category sorting big time.

- Long transaction titles do not scroll so they are readable in the rather narrow gutter width.

- Auto-categorizing or bulk updating transaction to categories is based on what exactly? Allow users to auto-tag based on a (partial) character/string match instead.

- I imported two accounts, both through MX, one Canadian bank and the other one a wealth management platform. The latter’s finances show as being part of the former in Cheddar. Seriously.

Lots of pretty bells and whistles but you missed some pretty crucial stuff.

This won’t take much to beat everyone out of the park.

### 2/5 — It’s not letting me sign in

*2024-09-19*

Keeps trying to make me leave a review instead of letting me sign in to my account

**Developer response:** Sorry you encountered this frustrating issue. Once we became aware, we quickly fixed it and pushed a new version to the App Store. Please message me at hello@cheddarcash.com so I can make this right.

### 4/5 — Great App

*2024-09-10, version 3.0.2*

It crashed on me until I realized my software was outdated, there are a few little glitches but overall a very user friendly finance app. I love the widgets and the ability to import my financial history. It’s also a big plus that the app uses both plaid and MX, so I haven’t had any issues connecting to my banking accounts using both! There’s always an issue with one or the other so to have both as an option is great!

### 5/5 — Way better

*2024-09-09, version 3.0.2*

The latest update is awesome. Saves me sooooo much time. One of my top apps!!

### 2/5 — The aesthetic is there. The tech is not

*2024-07-04, version 2.0.9*

Think it’s a beautiful app… visually. It seems to hold a connection with your banks longer than some other apps. More so than YNAB and close to Mint. But that’s as far as the con goes. I find myself hating the logic and UX behind the app. having it guess categories is a joke. It’s got very bad guesses, but worse of all it doesn’t learn. Making it a CHORE to categorize… doesn’t seem to have an option to MASS update categories on transactions so gotta set it one by one, can’t set rules for repeat transactions and no memory of previous categorizations, So like I have to repeatedly categorize the same transactions… one by one…. Everyday… to make matters worse the keyboard blocks half the screen everytime i go pick a category and can’t reach the categories under it. I need to carefully tap away (and without accidentally choosing a wrong category). Sometimes I’ll also accidentally approve categorizes and lose them in the unknown stupid category they picked.

Got so fed up I decided to review it.

### 2/5 — Not good UI

*2024-06-19, version 2.0.9*

When trying to enter data manually keyboard cover screen and no way to scroll or select date from calendar

### 1/5 — Major issues

*2024-06-08, version 2.0.9*

This app was supposed to replace ynab. It was simple and easy. But has major issues. I can't delete transactions which throw off the numbers when it finally updates from my bank. And today it decided to say I have 2 bank accounts with balances not even close to my actual bank. Hard to be a budgeting app if you can't reliably track my money. Tried for a few weeks and now I'm done. Uninstalled.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not Canadian like the developer claims in Reddit ads, broken, and useless

*2025-05-22, version 5.0.0*

update: I am, in fact selecting td Canada trust. The process errors out after asking for my two factor code. Also, no response from the developer re: sending all of our banking data to the US. I stand by my review as written. This app is neither functional nor effectively Canadian.

advertises it’s by Canadians for Canadians, but plad can’t connect to TD, the largest bank in the country. Mx closes the window as soon as you open passwords, so if you have a secure password you can’t memorize, forget it. Before advertising on Reddit that this is a Canadian app maybe get it working with Canadian banks. Blaming a third party, as the developer does in responses to other reviews, is a poor excuse. Oh and that third party? Guess what! It’s an American company that stores all your data in the US. Canadian banks offer apis. Until the developer uses them directly, claiming this app is in any way Canadian is just maple washing.

### 1/5 — Forces you to connect to your bank to have accounts

*2025-05-16, version 4.2.3*

This app is quite simple, to a fault. It allows you to manually add transactions, but you can’t add your accounts unless you connect to them through Plaid or MX. I don’t want to do that. I want to create my accounts and manually enter all the transactions for all the accounts.

### 1/5 — Transactions regularly stop updating

*2025-02-18, version 4.0.5*

Connected to my Wealthsimple cash account and I’ve already had it up and stop tracking transactions twice. A lot of hassle to disconnect, reconnect, and then sort out all of my transactions over and over.

### 1/5 — My bank account keeps disconnecting making the tracking near useless and annoying

*2025-01-20, version 4.0.5*

As said my CIBC account keeps disconnecting from the app causing me to have to sign in through plaid and it’s incredibly annoying. Would like a refund.

### 1/5 — Budget?

*2024-12-22, version 4.0.2*

It’s a budget app that costs $60+tax, use something free.

### 1/5 — Does not work as described

*2024-11-30, version 4.0.2*

I downloaded this app after seeing a posting on Reddit praising it and describing its quality. When I downloaded it I immediately had issues with the interface on my phone, and it could not categorize my transactions. The only solution offered was to contact customer support. I deleted the app and was then cancelled the subscription. The free 7 day trial was instantly charged at the full yearly rate. Fix these problems!

### 1/5 — Very basic app

*2024-11-19, version 4.0.0*

Very basic app that doesn’t even categorize basic transactions. You have to train their algorithm even for most basic/common transactions. Like it puts Tim Hortons under subscriptions. I was okay with training the algorithm as they have the option to move all similar transactions which works perfectly. But app doesn’t even let users to review and change previous months data.

My advise to developer is, Focus on building the app first get your algorithm trained, then focus on monetization.

### 1/5 — No TOU or Privacy Policy

*2024-11-09*

This app has no information about who is the owner. The privacy policy or any legal information. It’s highly scary that this app was approved by apple especially since it’s a financial app. I would be extremely careful.

### 1/5 — Does not allow me to link my account

*2024-09-29, version 3.0.7*

I was very excited by the features of this app. I linked my first bank account and it looked awesome. Went to link my second (main) account and it won’t allow me to.
Certainly disappointed.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2024-09-08, version 3.0.2*

I liked this app at first and bought one year subscription. But now it keeps my transactions in (need to review) tap. Deleted the app and reinstalled several times but the problem just keeps adding up with more transactions that need review. Sent email to support but no reply so far.
Frustrating.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Super cool!

*2025-05-27, version 5.1.1*

The UI is super nice the intergration are cool, this app has a lot of potential!

### 5/5 — Well done

*2025-05-12, version 4.2.2*

I've been using the Cheddar Budget app for a few months now, and it's quickly become one of my go-to tools for managing my finances. The interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to track expenses, set budget goals, and see where my money is going. I especially appreciate the real-time syncing across devices and the ability to categorize transactions in a way that actually reflects my spending habits

### 5/5 — Best expense tracker

*2025-02-17, version 4.0.5*

I have tried 5 popular apps (unethical to name them here) including Cheddar. The only one that doesn’t desync from my accounts is this. Well maybe 1 account every few days, but other apps I’ve tried (the most popular ones) all have much more frequent connectivity issues. The UI isn’t as fancy or insightful as some of the competition, but the dev makes a lot of updates. The auto-categorization is solid, could be better but it’s comparable to other popular apps so it’s acceptable. I’ve never been one for supporting bad products, no matter the reason, but this one is actually a really solid competitor among the most popular budgeting apps. More improvements to the UI are needed and would make this app more delightful, but it’s already the best I’ve seen.

### 5/5 — Helpful support

*2025-02-15, version 4.0.5*

The developer was very helpful over email and solved my issue! Good budgeting/financial planning app.

### 5/5 — Solid App

*2025-02-14, version 4.0.5*

I do enjoy using this app. I believe they are still working out the kinks, but it is totally useable and useful. Tech-support has been excellent and actually made changes to the app quickly and efficiently to solve my problems. I am happy to continue to use the app while they figure everything out.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2024-09-10, version 3.0.2*

This app has been game-changing! I have tried a few finance apps, but haven’t found one that I like. As someone that struggles with technology and gets overwhelmed with my finances, I am so glad to have finally found an app that is simple and easy to use! Highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Wonderful app couldn’t recommend more

*2024-09-10, version 3.0.2*

As a student who has trouble keeping track of her finances, this app has been able to help me so much. It is extremely organized and straightforward. It truly makes one realize where the bulk of my expenses lie. I would recommend it to anyone hoping to take charge. At first it had its problems, but the developers seem to have fixed it after feedback!!

### 5/5 — Great for balancing the books

*2024-09-09, version 3.0.2*

Got this app to help me stay on point with my spending after I could figure out why I never had money🥲. The app really helped me see my spending habit and rein thing in.
