### 5/5 — well worth it!

*2018-08-30*

I don’t write many reviews, however this app deserves one! I’m an instructor in an apprenticeship program teaching Ohm’s law basics. I create many homework assignments and tests for my students. This app is well worth the $1.99 for what I needed (fractions, positive and negative super and sub scripts). Took a minute to figure out how to us it but the puzzlement went away when I held a number key instead of just tapping it for the first time. Perfect for my needs. Would recommend to anyone wanting to input scientific equations and characters on an IOS.

### 5/5 — Perfect!

I just got this app today and I love it! It has so many shortcuts and it’s really easy to add it as an extension so I can use it anywhere! This is exactly what I was looking for

### 5/5 — Great app and very helpful in class

*2017-07-11*

When I first got this app last week I was having trouble getting the keyboard to load if I was in landscape mode on my 12.9" iPad Pro. I wrote a review and a few days later the developer contacted me saying he was working on a fix. A couple of days later he contacted me to tell me he submitted the revision. I re-downloaded the app and it works perfectly! I was very impressed by the quick response and how quickly he fixed the issue! I used the app in class today and it was great! No having to re-format my chemical equations when I get home! You can quickly superscript and subscript all numbers with the flick of the finger...it's great!

**Developer response:** Thanks for reporting this issue. I hope to get an update out as soon as I can figure out what is wrong on the 12.9.

### 5/5 — Lovey little useful gem

*2017-04-15*

Wonderful keyboard for chemists, chemistry students and chemistry teachers. Works brilliantly. I wish there was a soft keyboard version of it for Mac OS and Windows.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your lyrical review. I read it, proudly, to my kids.

I do not have plans, though, for products on macOS or Windows though, but I'll keep it in mind.

### 5/5 — Really Good S/W

*2016-02-04*

It is so easy to write up reports that include chemical notation thank you for such a neat solution.

### 5/5 — Great tool

*2015-02-16*

This is a great keyboard for typing up scientific papers and other science related things. Once you get used it the keyboard is really effective at helping you type chemical equations and sub/super scripts.

### 5/5 — Fantastic keyboard for a Chemist!

*2015-02-02*

What an incredible idea—a keyboard for chemists! In the past I've relied upon creating text expansion snippets to change formulas like H2O to H₂O, and -> to →, but this approach is much better. I can type chemical equations on the fly now, and in less time than it would take on my iMac. Love this keyboard!

Highly recommended keyboard for anyone who wants to write chemical formulas and equations on their iOS devices.

Nice update in 1.0.1 allowing for Greek letter entry. Much easier than switching over to the Greek keyboard (which is what I was doing before).

I’ve used this a number of times when making exam solutions for my Chemistry students. Being able to “type” chemical equations on my iPad has actually allowed me to get the job done faster than when I’m on my iMac. Imagine that!

Thanks. @SSU_Science

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Thop05

*2016-03-13*

I can't get this keyboard to work with any of my apps. Is it exclusive to Microsoft?

**Developer response:** No. It should work with nearly any iOS app that supports standard text input.

You have to open up the keyboard panel in the setting app and activate the formula keyboard.

Tap on the iOS Settings App.
Tap on "General"
Tap on "Keyboards"
Tap on "Keyboards"
Tap on "Add New Keyboard..."
Under "Third Party Keyboards" Tap on "Chemistry Keys"

It should now be installed.

Open up an app that supports text input like Notes.
Bring up a keyboard.
Tap on the globe icon until Chemistry Keyboard appears.

Hope this helps.

### 2/5 — Not working in other apps

*2025-12-19*

I bought this app to be able to write all the formulas in my chemistry notes but i have the settings turned on and i added it to my keyboards but for some reason im unable to use the keyboard in any app so i have to keep opening up the app and typing out what i need and then copy paste it into my notes :/

### 2/5 — Does not allow custom subscript or superscript lettering not preset

*2023-08-27*

This app does not allow for superscript or subscript lettering that has not been predefined. Possibly useful for chemistry only representations.

**Developer response:** It is limited to Unicode subscripts and superscript. If you can find one that is useful, I’d consider adding it.

### 4/5 — Very Except …,

*2023-05-07*

Why isn’t the symbol for Fluorine (F)
either on the keyboard or in one of the two lists of elements below the keyboard??
I know fluorine is just one letter - but you have the others either on the keyboard or beneath it. The alphabetical list with the “F” elements has Fe and others - but alas no F.

**Developer response:** I put all the halogens under the Cl button. I tried to make elements accessible in order of (in my mind) their likelihood of appearing in a formula. So carbon, oxygen and hydrogen get their own buttons. Chlorine, fluorine, bromine and iodine are under one button. While sulfur, boron, nitrogen and phosphorus are under one buttons. All the other elements are placed in the two big lists.

I hope this makes it fast for most people, but obviously if you have to type Hg a lot it will be non-optimal.

### 4/5 — Good

*2017-02-24*

This keyboard is good, however it is missing some very important features, it being a chemistry keyboard after all.

**Developer response:** Hi, I would love to hear of any improvements you could suggest. Be warned, that I'm limited to Unicode in terms of what characters I can generate.

### 4/5 — Almost perfect!

*2015-02-08*

I absolutely love this keyboard. I use chemical equations pretty often and it's great to finally be able to do so on my iPad.
That being said, it seems to be missing several chemical symbols. It would be great if down the line they included more, or all, of the periodic table so I don't have to switch over keyboards just to type things like Sb for Antimony.

### 5/5 — very good and some question

*2025-12-06*

This chemistry keyboard app is user-friendly, but it’s missing key chemical symbols. I hope all standard chemical notations (like ↑, ↓, ) can be added in future updates. It would be much more useful then!

### 5/5 — so useful for digital notes

*2025-11-10*

i study biochemistry and this genuinely saves me so much time. i hate writing out equations manually or having to google sub and superscript to paste into my notes, this keyboard has changed the game for me!!! i love being able to do my notes on my ipad rather than laptop, not only is this saving time but also saving my shoulder from having to carry around a laptop all day!!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the kind review. It made my day. ∞

### 5/5 — Seamless

*2023-04-21*

Once I installed the app and reset my phone (I read a previous review that said resetting could fix they keyboard not showing up in certain apps, and it works) this app works well and makes it easy to find each element while typing. I haven’t had any issues with the keyboard loading slowly like it does with other apps. Great deal!

### 5/5 — Good app

*2022-09-06*

This is a good app, well priced for what it is, I find it very helpful in conveying math and chemistry equations, however one suggestion I would have would be the addition of super/sub script signs such as →

## Most praised reviews (6 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Very nice

*2022-01-22*

Great little app that respects privacy and actually follows through on its functionality.

### 5/5 — Great :), some suggestions

*2020-05-26*

Finally, a super helpful app for my typed chem notes!

I do wish the upper scripts were a bigger font size, such as the negative signs. Otherwise, it’s not super noticeable on my notes even when I’m close. If I skimmed through it, I’d probably miss the negative superscript because it’s so tiny. This is from a Notability typing POV w/ Verdana font style and size 10 for notes. (My headings are size 13 and the negative upper scripts are still too small to be easily noticeable.

Other than that, the keyboard fits the screen and was very easy to figure out. No regrets with my purchase. Please consider my suggestions!! Will fantastically help me :)

Thank you!

**Developer response:** Thanks for taking the time to review. Unfortunately, do to the way I deal with text, by inserting Unicode characters, character size is entirely up to the font being used by the current app.

### 5/5 — Great app. Just make sure to restart phone

*2020-05-05*

I primarily wanted this app to make superscript notes on my monster levels in Pokemon Go. However, the keyboard globe wasn’t initially pulling up Formula Keyboard - Chemistry Keys in Pokemon Go like it was in Messages/Mail/Notes etc.

I’m not sure what solved my issue – whether it was deleting and re-downloading Pokémon go or restarting my phone in between, but works like a charm now!

Also, Glenn is an extremely responsive and awesome developer. Know that if you ever run into any kind of problems he’ll
be right there to help you through them!

**Developer response:** I think you are mistaken about what “Full Access” means. Regardless, I do need to update the keyboard. Sorry about any misbehavior I could have avoided.

### 5/5 — Does what it says

*2019-06-26*

extremely helpful in math and chem classes, especially if u want to make quizlets on your phone/ipad. Very easy to use subscripts ₁₂³⁴. U can add it to your keyboards to use in any app. Appreciate the app

**Developer response:** Love to hear it’s helpful to people. Thanks for the review.

### 5/5 — Super fast equation typing

*2019-04-04*

Recommended for anyone who types a lot of chemical equations and formulae. I am a chemistry teacher and this has significantly improved my workflow.

### 5/5 — Thank God (or Glenn)!

*2019-01-18*

Nothing else has worked for superscript and subscript. To get symbols, I’ve had to add and toggle through many keyboards. It’s early days with this app, but I couldn’t be more pleased with it (once I figured out that holding down the key unlocks super and subscripts). I you are often typing science, this hugely helpful!

**Developer response:** Thank you. Glad you’re finding success.
