### 3/5 — Mixed bag it is...

*2026-08-11*

PROS
— Makes purchases in most restaurants, stores and malls super easy (when you get it to work!)
— Easy to add money to wallet
— Super responsive door service (in Mumbai at least) to do in person KYC

CONS
— It does not work when you try to pay via UPI to an individual. So all individually run taxis
and rickshaw payments did not work. That is terrible
— Had to uninstall and reinstall App On IOS to make it work (specifically funds to the wallet). App kept crashing when adding money (after acct was activated).
— Acct has to be setup all over again after you leave India and come back at a later date. Beats me why?

Overall, good to have app as it offers reasonable convenience. If they can make onboarding online, allow most UPI payments to individuals, that will be big step forward.

### 4/5 — Super convenient

*2026-04-15*

This Cheq app made our trip to India so much more convenient. Having access to UPI in India can be a life saver. All merchants accept it and many prefer it to cash. Save the trip to ATMs. Note that it will not allow payments to individuals only to merchants. The in person verification was quick and easy with a passport at the Kolkata Transcorp office.

### 2/5 — Limited use

*2025-10-18, version 1.7.17*

While the app is easy to install, for the the verification process you have to go all the way into a hard to find office.
I was planning to use it to manage payments for a tour group (ie. tour guides, drivers) but as it turns out, you can’t make payments to people, only companies which makes it pretty useless.

### 2/5 — Works well but CX is Rubbish

*2025-09-21, version 1.7.17*

The app works perfectly well, I’ve been using it for more than a year. I can see that now we’ve got wallet to wallet transfers too or maybe I just got lucky which is such a pleasurable experience in Bangalore.

The CX is still the same rubbish, the screen is out of sync with the landscape of my phone. It should not take more than 24 hours to fix the CX. I cannot read my balance on the phone, I’m always second guessing how much money I have left.

Other than that, the top up service keeps going down every now and then. Please keep your uptimes as high as you can.

### 1/5 — Worst customer service ever

*2025-07-06, version 1.7.17*

Never go for this app, nobody responds or does what they commit to

### 3/5 — Mostly works

*2025-07-04*

While this mostly works, adding money can take days. If you need just a little bit more to make a purchase, you may be out of luck when trying to quickly add money via foreign debit card. And adding money via credit card = cash advance (lots of fees + interest). You can “encash” to have any remaining money refunded back to your bank but it can be very slow and there are transaction fees on every step. I as given an official business invoice but could not pay with Cheq. Apparently the business was officially a wholesaler and only retailers are allowed.

### 3/5 — Great when it works most times; but unacceptable/unreliable to break for a financial app

*2025-06-18, version 1.7.17*

Most times it works, and it is great. But breaks a few times (eg. not able to load funds for more than 24hrs once, iOS app not opening for sometime etc). Hence not reliable.

### 1/5 — USA customer : Not useful app at all.. Worst customer service

*2025-06-03, version 1.7.17*

This app is seriously a rip off, they took Rs. 1499 as membership fees and disappeared at KYC step. Their partner branch in Surat is closed from 2months and in-person verification representative is not answering phone calls from 2 days. Really pathetic service. Not sure why scam people like this.

### 1/5 — Bills you money and then leaves you stranded

*2025-05-20, version 1.7.17*

If you’re a foreigner I want a reliable way to use UPI. Do not use this app. It will charge your card and not put the money in the account. Something they’ve done in the last year with this app has left incredibly buggy with every transaction and purchase I try and put through it don’t waste your time.

### 4/5 — Expensive joining fee

*2025-04-22, version 1.7.17*

Too expensive joining fee

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Wasted effort

*2026-06-05, version 3.3*

I had jumped through so many hoops to get physically verified and paid the registration fee. Despite several calls to their local office who verified me, the account was never activated. My vacation was for six weeks and nothing moved during that time frame.

After returning back, I called them asking for the refund of my registration fees. Despite several reminders, my fees were never returned. It's been three years now.

### 1/5 — Very bad customer support

*2026-03-31, version 2.8*

There customer support is very bad

### 1/5 — Waste of time

*2026-01-25, version 2.0*

Been trying to set it up. Made payment. Now they said they don’t have an agent in my city to come verify me, now I’m trying to resolve the issue. Worst costumer care: a mix of a bad automated system and incompetent people to deal with. Beware.

### 1/5 — Puts govt offices to shame

*2025-12-23, version 1.7.19*

tl;dr: they couldn’t make the app work after multiple verifications and kyc. Offered me for a re-kyc at my home to set things right and never showed up.

Cheq, in its UX and backend processes, is right there with some of those iconic apps that tend to come from govt agencies, perhaps even worse!

Here is my journey with Cheq:

Downloaded the app and signed up and was instantly charged an activation fee. That all makes sense, only the activation won’t happen for another whole year.

I proceeded to verification which involved about 30-40 attempts to establish a video call with an agent for in-person verification. Of these 3 made it to the final level but only 1 was able to establish a video link. But unfortunately it too wasn’t strong enough to carry this immense responsibility, and the connection fell through before any meaningful progress could be made. During this time, the app showed me upload / download speeds for the video call. Not that one can do anything about it, but I found it to be a great way to set a user’s expectations on the kind of technology they are working with.

Well, this had happened over several days and I ended up leaving India without being able to actually use Cheq.

You cannot complete the verification process if you’re not in India and so we fast forward to a year later. I was back in India and decided to give it another shot.

This time the verification completed. But I had made a huge mistake: I had used an Indian phone number. Cheq determined that I am, therefore, a resident. You know, because how can you have an Indian number if you live abroad? Anyway, what this really meant was that I couldn’t add money to my account in any way except UPI. The irony!

I reached out to Cheq support and, to their credit, they were very responsive. Unfortunately, they were nowhere half as effective. They asked me to submit my documents again - over WhatsApp now! Hesitant while I was, I nevertheless complied. But this didn’t help them figure out what was wrong and, perhaps in hope of pulling off something like turning it off and on again, they asked me to do a re-KYC. For reference, the KYC is also what I had done on the video call.

Acknowledging how difficult this process had been for me, they offered to send an agent to my home to complete the application. The agent too contacted me not long after and we set up a time. He was also very communicative, to the extent that I often found myself in the small talk zone. Anyway, the time for the appointment came and went, but the agent did not show up, nor did he contact me thereafter.

A bit frustrated at this point, I messaged the support team stating that they’d be better off just closing my account. And they promptly did so.

So at this point, I do not have a Cheq account. All it took was one message venting my frustration. It was a fitting reminder to me about authority and my place in the system.

Cheq might be a privately held technology company at the surface, but in spirit it is quite the sarkaari daftar.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2025-11-09*

If you are a foreigner, do not be fooled by the app because it says for foreigners. It will not be working the way you think it will.

First, it will not be able to transfer money between individuals meaning you won't be able to pay for taxi drivers, shops or other individuals. You can only pay for merchant accounts who are registered as business. This is a huge restriction. After I put a lot of money to Cheq, I found out I cannot use it on most of my activities.

Second, it says 0% on transactions. This is a lie. It will charge you 3% during your deposit time. They will charge you first then they say it is 0%. This is dishonest.

Third, I tried to withdraw the money from an ATM that supports UPI. It deducted the amount and it said it failed. Then it told me the money would be returned on 3 to 5 days. This is totally locked a lot of money during my visit.

I gave it 1 star because I can't give 0. The app doesn't deliver what it promised, they are dishonest and broken. Do not use this app you will be disappointed.

### 1/5 — Too expensive

*2025-09-29, version 1.7.17*

Too expensive to sign up.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work with vendor having personal account

*2025-08-05, version 1.7.17*

Works with vendors having business accounts. But many auto drivers and street vendors have their UPI linked to their person account and cheq doesn’t support paying to such accounts. 75% of the time I tried to pay didn’t work due to this.

### 1/5 — Useless customer service, useless app

*2025-07-21, version 1.7.17*

I attempted to load my wallet three times using three different cards from different banks. All of them deducted the money, but Cheq didn’t add to my balance. I contacted customer support multiple times for weeks but no one provided a solution. Guess they will have to deal with three chargebacks now. What a scam

### 1/5 — Sometimes works

*2025-07-21*

Normally, I only review things I love. Making an exception here to warn others. At times Cheq works smoothly, creating a critical gateway to payments in India. However, the service is frequently down for hours or days without notice. Sometimes it won’t open the scan screen. Sometimes the add money service is “not available”. Sometimes you try to add money, and it claims your credit card CVV is incorrect. You may be awkwardly unable to pay at a business, so if you do get Cheq, never assume it will work, have backup, and treat the app like a toy. If you get Cheq, have a travel partner get a different app for when one goes down. We got Cheq in Pune; Transcorp had the wrong address listed for the KYC. We finally got to the correct location, but later when we went again to add our son on, the office was closed permanently, but was still listed on Transcorp’s website. They actually asked us to come to Delhi to add him, as if that was feasible. When our daughter initially signed up, Cheq froze her American account for 1000 DOLLARS instead of charging the 1000 rupee fee because their subsidiary didn’t process the exchange rate; eventually corrected after getting the American bank involved. Customer service is largely ineffective and unavailable, and not at all present on weekends. If other options become available, choose carefully.

### 1/5 — Scam

*2025-07-17, version 1.7.17*

They don’t know what they are doing. They take your Rs 1499 and then nothing happens. If you email them they copy you on internal emails asking how the process works.
Do not use - it doesn’t work - they just take your money

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Easy to setup

*2026-06-28, version 3.5*

The team works via WhatsApp to go through the process of verification and activation. Someone from the team visits you at your location and activates your account. Overall a seamless process.

### 5/5 — Cheq

*2026-06-25, version 3.5*

Very helpful, easy setup , the gentleman came to my hotel to very and activate my account

### 5/5 — Jun 19

*2026-06-19, version 3.5*

Hi-Team good service at Hyderabad

### 5/5 — Great Upi app for Foreigners

*2026-06-11*

Great service for foreigners visiting India. The entire setup process was quick, straightforward, and easy to follow, even for someone unfamiliar with local procedures. Everything was explained clearly, and the staff was helpful and responsive whenever I had questions. The service worked exactly as expected, making my stay in India much more convenient and stress-free. I really appreciated how efficient and professional the whole experience was. I would definitely recommend it to other international travelers looking for a reliable and hassle-free service while visiting India.

### 5/5 — Great app for NRI’s to pay in India directly from US bank account!!!

*2026-05-05*

I was amazed to see this app allowing me to pay even a coconut vendor via UPI scan and pay with my USA credit card and Apple Pay. Migrated to USA way back, I didn’t even have PAN card or Aadhar card and it’s amazing feeling that I am an Indian and I can pay like an Indian while I visited my home country. Thank you guys!!!

### 5/5 — Great app for Nri’s

*2026-01-03*

I’ve been traveling for nearly 10 years, and every time I needed to make payments, I had to keep pinging someone else to pay my bills. Discovering Cheq has been such a huge relief! Being able to make UPI payments by myself while traveling feels empowering and incredibly convenient. The app has truly made my life easier. Highly recommend it for anyone who travels often.

### 5/5 — very convenient

*2026-01-03, version 1.8*

As an NRI, being able to make UPI payments whenever I’m in India makes life so much easier.

### 5/5 — “A Must” in India

*2025-12-13*

Currently, I am in India visiting two cities - Gurgaon and Bangalore. My friend told me I must have this app enabled in order to pay for anything. I didn’t take his words seriously until I meet all the inconvenience for not able to pay… with this now I can go anywhere to pay in restaurants, shops, etc…instead of limited to credit cards.
I tried to activate it when I was in Gurgaon but i was able to find the person to enable. In Bangalore, I was able to find Jazz who’s very helpful and help me get the UPI set up and make the process painless. Thank you Jazz

### 5/5 — Finally able to pay like a local

*2025-12-13*

This app is meant to pay vendors who use the UPI system. It is not meant to pay individuals so keep that in mind. To load the wallet you use a credit card and the transaction counts as a purchase and not a cash advance, which is really nice. If you use a credit card without international fees, you save even more. The process of activation with in person verification with super simple thanks to the amazing JAZZ who came out tomatoes at our hotel. In fact, he has met us already two years in a row.

### 5/5 — Excellent Service

*2025-05-15, version 1.7.17*

Such a quick and easy service. Jazz was great when he came to help with in person verification. Friendly helpful and was flexible on time to meet.
