## What is Chess Clock?

Chess Clock is an accurate game timer that does what paper scoresheets do: it remembers. And now it gives your chess group a home.

A serious clock
• Presets from bullet to classical, plus your last three controls one tap away
• Fischer increment, US delay and Bronstein delay
• Tournament stages ("after 40 moves, add 30 minutes") with a live countdown to the next stage
• Accurate to the tenth of a second, immune to timer drift
• Low-time warnings that scale to the control, with distinct haptics at each handoff, at ten seconds and at five
• Big mirrored display, portrait and landscape; the waiting side dims so you know whose move it is
• Pause survives everything: lock the phone and both times sit on the Lock Screen; quit the app and the game is still paused when you return

A scoresheet that fills itself in
• Enter names once. The app records every finished game with result, control, move count and how it ended
• Win / loss / draw totals per player, head-to-head for every rivalry
• Tap any game for its move-time timeline: how long each move took, both sides, with the longest think and the sharpest time-trouble stretch called out

Clubs, for real-world chess groups
• Create a club, publish it, and let members find it by name or by scanning its QR code
• A results table that updates itself when members play, with continuous Elo ratings
• Club nights with RSVP, a looking-for-a-game signal, and a recap you can share as an image
• A rated member directory, an activity feed, and moderation tools for owners and admins
• Time-odds suggestions when two rated members sit down together

Friends and nearby play
• Nearby phones find each other when you start a game, so you pick your opponent instead of typing a name
• Exchange finished games with a nearby friend, phone to phone, with no internet involved

Your data
No account to create and no ads. The clock and scoresheet live on your phone. Clubs use your iCloud sign-in as identity and keep club data (names, rosters, results) in Apple's iCloud, never on our servers, because we don't run any. You can delete your club data from inside the app at any time.

Backups
Export everything the app holds to one file and keep it wherever you keep your files. Restore it on a new phone, or after a reinstall, and your record comes back. Every backup is encrypted with a password you choose, and without that password nobody can open it.

Chess Clock Pro (one-time purchase, no subscription)
• Custom time controls: any base time, increment, delay style and tournament stage
• Full match history and the move-time timeline for every game
• Head-to-head breakdown of every rivalry
• Six premium themes: Tournament, Ocean, Midnight, Blossom, Iris and Coral

Whether it's blitz at the kitchen table, a club night at the pub, or a long weekend rivalry, Chess Clock keeps the time and settles the argument about who's winning.

Chess Clock speaks 43 languages, from Arabic to Vietnamese.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.8 — 2026-09-24

Chess Clock in your language
• The whole app is translated into 43 languages, with chess terms the way players in each country say them
• Arabic, Hebrew and Urdu read right to left, and time controls and results are still written the way chess writes them
• Numbers, dates and times follow your phone's settings, including its choice of digits
• A new game starts once both players are named, so every game lands on your scoresheet
No account, no ads.

### 1.7 — 2026-09-21

Back up your scoresheet
• Export everything the app holds to one file: your games with their move times, your profile, friends and clubs
• Restore it on a new phone, or after a reinstall, and your record comes back
• Every backup is encrypted with a password you choose. Without that password nobody can open the file: not you, not us, not Apple. Let your phone save it to Passwords
• A restore only adds. It never removes or overwrites what is already on the phone, and importing the same file twice changes nothing
• Before anything is written, the app shows you what the file would add

Three more themes
• Blossom, Iris and Coral join Tournament, Ocean and Midnight (Pro)
• Every theme is now held to a contrast check in light and dark, so the countdown stays legible whichever you pick

Everything else is as it was: clubs, US and Bronstein delay, tournament stages, move-by-move timelines, and nearby opponents. No account, no ads.

### 1.6 — 2026-09-20

New here? A quick setup
• The first time you open the app it asks your name, the time controls you play, and whether you play at a club. Only the name is required. It stays on your phone unless you join a club or play someone nearby
• Then New Game opens with your favorites ready

Quick start, your way
• Pin the controls you always play to the front of the Quick start row: press and hold any control on New Game
• Pinned controls stay put. Recent ones fill in after them

Finding a club
• When a search comes up empty, the app now says if a matching club exists but was published less than a day ago
• When a club code can't be looked up, the app says whether the club is gone or iCloud had a problem, and gives the error number
• A club appears in search a day after its owner publishes it. The app used to say "a day after it's created", which was wrong

Everything else is as it was: clubs, US and Bronstein delay, tournament stages, move-by-move timelines, and nearby opponents. No account, no ads.

### 1.5 — 2026-09-19

**Every screen, both players**
• The two halves of the clock now match. Black's color runs all the way to the edges of the screen, the way White's always has (iOS 26 and later)
• iPhone Duo: both halves are the same size on the cover screen, and the digits grow on the larger inner screen
• iPad: the clock's digits are sized to the screen now, not to an iPhone

**Finding a club**
• Search waits until you pause typing, then asks once
• When a search fails, the app says so and offers Try Again, and it only blames your connection when it really is your connection
• Just made a club? It appears in search a day later. Until then, people can join with its club code

Everything else is as it was: clubs, US and Bronstein delay, tournament stages, move-by-move timelines, and nearby opponents. No account, no ads.

### 1.4 — 2026-09-17

**Small one**
• After your third finished game, the app asks once whether you'd leave an App Store review — a moment after the result shows, never over a sheet, never mid-game, never again
• Discarded games and games synced from another phone don't count toward it

Everything else is the 1.3 release: clubs, US and Bronstein delay, tournament stages, move-by-move timelines, and nearby opponents. No account, no ads.
