### 5/5 — Best Chess Opening App

*2024-07-12*

This was the first app that I downloaded to practice new openings and I really liked it, I tried different apps as well but none compared to this one, I recommend this chess opening app.

### 1/5 — Forces IOS 15 denying many people access

*2024-04-09*

I hate apps that force IOS for no reason. Most Banking Apps require IOS12 but this demands IOS15.

If I upgrade to IOS15 it will make the iPad run super slow and I will have to spend £1000 on a new one.

There is nothing in this game that NEEDS IOS15 so no need to exclude people. Maybe change this requirement or release a “lite” version that supports IOS12 and above.

I had to install on phone but I can’t see well enough to play on that.

Dev can respond and I will amend my review if more inclusive IIOS12 becomes the minimum needed.

### 1/5 — Missing openings

*2023-08-17*

I like to play the Reti Opening…but this app doesn’t even have that as an option to learn- yet it has obscure openings like the Grob or the Bird. I also can’t find the London System…which really is essential to most newer chess players. I don’t know when the last time this app was updated…but it needs one.

### 5/5 — Needs improvement

*2023-06-17*

I paid for it because I’d like to see it improved further. The thing I don’t like is some lines are outdated. I’d understand if they were gambit lines or something but there are positions where the only move allowable is an outright mistake and if you check it against databases they aren’t even the most popular move. An example is the Vienna Stanley variation. 1.e4 e5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 4. Qg4

The only possible given line for black is 4…Qf3? Which is a 69% win rate for white according to the lichess player base. Even just undeveloping the bishop and losing an entire tempo as black is a better move.

My worry is using this to practice and learning bad moves, or expecting my opponent to play dubious moves that they wouldn’t in an actual game.

### 2/5 — Personnal tree

*2023-05-01*

### 5/5 — I like it even compared to “Chess Tactics”

*2023-04-05*

I only wish that at the end of then opening it would either give me advice on how I can use the opening to my advantage and how to play my pieces.

Other cool features could be to “add notes” and maybe a search feature to find the opening my computer opponent is playing.

### 3/5 — It would be good

*2023-03-29*

It would be a good app but it’s very confusing to navigate through. If it is easier to navigate through and learn it would be much better 2/5

### 3/5 — Good app just needs a bit of work.

*2023-03-10*

I have gotten into chess for some time now and I wanted to practice my openings and I saw this app so I decided to install it it is very in depth with most likely all the types of variations, gambits and I might go as far as to say that it might have all of them. The app is well thought but needs work like the openings in explore it doesn’t have a knight opening it doesn’t let me and I don’t understand what the numbers are for only guess I have is the amount of advantage you might have after playing them. So overall a great app for beginning to learn but it can go deeper to go with other moves and not just learn one opening with only one way for your opponent to respond it should be able to respond with a different opening each time you play it but all in all a good app.

### 5/5 — Exactly what I was looking for 👑

*2023-02-22*

This great little app provides the solution for visualising, exploring and training your chess openings. Backed up by the excellent wikibooks text, it makes learning fun and easy. It also has a reasonable one-off cost - so much less worrying to purchase than an expensive subscription. I hope you go ahead, give it a go, and support the future development of this gem.

The user interface could use a bit of love. My one bug-bear is that the name of the variation is cut off on my small iPhone. Doesn’t stop me giving this a full five stars though ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!

### 5/5 — Very Useful App, Needs Landscape Display

*2022-09-27*

This application is full of useful information, presented in a very clean, easy to use format.
Please add the ability to display in landscape format, if at all possible!
