### 3/5 — Crash too often

*2022-11-26*

This app crash too often. Only solution is to uninstall it ….

### 3/5 — Report a problem

*2022-11-12*

Why this app can’t be opened on the new iPhone 14 max?

### 4/5 — Great concept but limited app

*2019-11-02*

The board works great! Worth the investment in the books. However, I don't see a way of syncing progress or bookmarks between different devices. I also don't see how to highlight text. Finally, being able to copy pgn of games would be helpful for further analysis. But I suspect that is deliberate.

### 4/5 — Solid, but could be better

*2019-08-04*

This is a solid app and I love playing through these books with the board in screen.

Some suggestions:
1) A button to flip the orientation from white to black or vice-versa. This button could be placed in the empty space next to the copy position and computer analysis buttons.
2) listed algebraic notation of the last two moves below the board
3) there seems to be a scrolling issue where the book scrolls just a little more than expected

Overall though, this is a great app and great way to study chess.

### 5/5 — Well-thought-out app

*2014-08-15, version 2.0.1*

This app is a significant improvement on the style of chess reader offered by Chessbase and Everyman. Now that iOS7 has come out the skeuomorphic design is already looking a bit quaint, but the way the app works is very clever and useful. I look forward to more Gambit publications being made available in this format.

One feature that the app lacks that is really needed is a bookmark function. It's going to take you weeks to work your way through something like Nunn's Chess Endings, and it's easy to forget exactly which position you'd reached after a gruelling session trying to absorb this difficult material.

Update: Version 1.0.1 fixes the preceding bookmark problem! Now when you reopen the app you go straight back to the point in the text you last were. This is just what I wanted!

Update 2: And now that the bookshelves and fake woodgrain have gone, all my problems with the app have disappeared. I've purchased several titles, which have all been of high quality.

### 5/5 — Shaping up to be the best chess book app

*2014-08-09, version 2.0.1*

The newest version is quick and responsive, polished. Books available are generally of great quality (Gambit has always been a strong publisher), but the selection is still rather limited. I would appreciate a black repertoire book on offer to complement Watson's excellent white repertoire. As books are added, this will surely become my most used chess app.

### 5/5 — Fantastic tool!

*2013-11-29*

This app is amazing. It makes chess study more dynamic. I just got the book on Kasparov and going through one of his games took me half the time on this app. Moving back and forth between your book and the board takes more time than you may think. Also, with this app you can speed through an analysis and judge weather is worth spending time on it or if it's better to move on with the main text. If you study chess and you are not an expert who can fly through chess books, this app will help you quite a bit. I cannot wait for Gambit to make more titles available (it would be amazing if they could include FCO as one of the titles for this app).

### 5/5 — Innovative

*2013-10-02, version 1.0.1*

This is a great way to read chess books! You understand far more by seeing the chessboard position change each move anyway. Until now this has usually required more cumbersome methods.
I think the pattern recognition gained is a greatly underestimated way of learning chess. Go Gambit!

### 4/5 — Excellent Customer support

*2013-09-28*

There were retina graphics problems in version 1.0. I reported them to the publisher. And they were immediately fixed as a result. So the customer service seems to be excellent. The app now works very well. The control seems a little sluggish which is why I am only giving it 4 stars. The material however is excellent.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2013-09-11, version 1.0*

A classic app by Gambit and with the most recents John Nunn's books. I am loving it.

### 1/5 — Careful…You can’t witch between apple and iPad

*2023-05-05*

You can’t switch between apple and iPad. I bought a book and found out that is isn’t possible two switch between the two. I wanted it on my phone also and it can’t be done. Horrible interface. You’re better off buying a book from forward chess.

### 1/5 — stopped working

*2022-11-14*

I have an iPad with iOS 15.6 and the app stopped working with the new update... 🙁

### 1/5 — Crash without opening in iPhone 14

*2022-11-11*

Wonderful app on iPad but crashes without opening on iPhone 14. Waiting a long time for a fix.

### 1/5 — Does not start

*2022-10-27*

Doesn’t start anymore under iPadOS 16.1

### 1/5 — Does Not Open in IOS 16

*2022-10-24*

This was a good app for a long time. However, it does not open once IOS 16 installed.

### 1/5 — No future, no active development

*2017-09-10*

Books are good, but the app isn't. And it also hasn't been updated for years.

### 1/5 — Bookstore closed, opening when?

*2015-07-06, version 2.1.0*

I'm not sure where in the world Gambit's online bookstore is located, but I am sure I could get there faster walking than with this app.

### 1/5 — Server always unavailable

*2014-01-10, version 1.0.4*

Difficult to say anything about this app except at the moment it's useless - I can never get it to connect to the book store ("server error"). It doesn't come with any examples or demos - it could be great for reading books but who knows. As it stands, it's just a screen of an empty bookshelf with an error message at the bottom.

Other chess bookstores work fine at the moment...

### 5/5 — Updating to iOS16?

*2022-11-05*

I was a happy camper when I bought Chess Studio last night. Then I went and installed iOS16 without thinking! App crashes on launch now. Any plans to update to the latest OS? Thanks.

### 5/5 — No problems

*2021-11-20, version 3.0*

I just downloaded the app and bought a few books , No problems at all , it is a perfect app where I can study chess anywhere any moment , having the advantage to play games and variations easily , i think an exellent app … 😀

### 5/5 — Great!! But please give us a (text readable function)

*2021-04-18*

Awesome, happy to see this app move forward, updates is absolutely GREAT!
Their books are great, and customer service response is good too.
“I’m a big fan of screen reader “I’m hoping that you will use a different format soon.( text readable screen function ) on iOS device's.
This is the way of the future.

### 5/5 — Very useful improvements

*2018-06-12*

Will be playing a lot more now that you improved the smartphone view!

### 5/5 — Best chess app !

*2016-09-22*

Wonderful features, and a reactive team!
Add the possibility to go to the start, or the end of a game, and this will be perfect.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2015-10-22*

Great app with a good selection of books. Needs at least an analysis board so I can examine variations not covered in the text. Even the weakest engine would be nice too. But still a nice app for reading on the plane or at lunch or anywhere you don't have access to a board.

### 5/5 — This is what a chess book should be...awesome!!!

*2014-11-15*

This is perfect when you cannot use a chess board to play over the position. Works perfectly for me while commuting on the train.

Thank you Mr. Nunn!

### 5/5 — Greatest chess learning app ever

*2014-09-01*

This is best by test.
