### 4/5 — Almost perfect

*2026-08-18*

There needs to be an easier way to search lines on the phone. Even the move tree on the web app has issues because it forces you to go through all courses when searching one line for one course.

### 2/5 — Poorly functioning app w/ solid content

*2026-08-17, version 3.0.2*

Man I really wanted to be impressed after buying a $100 course w/ video. The most obvious fix, since it sounds this a long standing iOS Chessable issue that they haven’t fixed, seems like it would be to download the content to my phone but I’d have to pay a monthly fee to download the video to do that…You have fooled me on one medium sized purchase but I will not do another until this gets better. I hope that matters to Chessable as I am sure I am not the only person that feels this way.

### 3/5 — Great content, but the app needs updating

*2026-07-18*

Chessable has a great set of courses and the underlying idea of spaced repetition is awesome. However, the app for iOS works poorly. It is often slow to start or does not start at all, and you have to close the app and then try again again. When you download a course and save it on your device, and then go where there is no Wi-Fi, such as an airplane, often the app will not allow you to access the content. This is true for the trainer as well as videos. Also, there are a lot of features on the web version that have never been incorporated into the app, which is a real shame.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your feedback! We are so sorry for the frustration with app speed and offline access. Please ensure you have the latest version installed, as we frequently roll out performance fixes. If issues persist, please reach out via our in-app support so our team can personally investigate and help you right away!

### 2/5 — Bad Moves

*2026-06-29, version 3.0.0*

Playing a computer it is not following rules taught in this app such as a king in check by a protected piece can’t just capture the piece that is putting it in check. It can, I just found out in an actual game.

The app is also a bit glitchy and references letters I cannot see and doesn’t play all demonstrations but does a quiz on them so you have to guess the exact order.

Overall I feel it didn’t improve my chess game but I did learn the names of some tactics so if you’re into that you may like it.

### 2/5 — Good content; bad delivery

*2026-06-23, version 3.0.0*

The app is just so dang clunky. It’s so hard to navigate and find what you’re looking for in lessons. Feels very dated. I find myself using the browser on mobile more than the app, but that’s hardly better. The pc experience is relatively more tolerable, but it seems my progress there doesn’t save to mobile or the app, which is just more frustration.

My heart always sinks when I see content or topics that I can only access via chessable. I simply hate using it.

### 2/5 — Excellent site and resource, terrible app.

*2026-05-10*

Update to my review from a while back. Platform is great, app is awful. The most recent update has made a poor app worse, pretty much unusable this time with piece animations going all over the place during learning and variation reviews.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your thoughtful feedback! We're glad to hear you enjoy using Chessable on your computer. We sincerely apologize for the app issues you've encountered, such as the offline notifications and loading problems. Our team is actively working on improvements. Please reach out to support so we can assist you further and enhance your experience!

### 3/5 — Good website poor app

*2026-05-07, version 2.9.8*

The actual online product is very good, but the app is constantly buggy and crashes often. Recently this has been getting worse with pieces moving extremely fast or extremely slow and other visual glitches.

### 4/5 — Great with a caveat

*2026-05-02*

Some of the Choices to split up some games into separate chapters and not keep it all in one makes no sense. I have Judit Polgars tactical review and her video is all one piece, but the site decided to split games and moves up in a nonsense way. Come on chessable, that’s just a way to inflate the “information” when someone looks at value and try to deceive. Judit deserves that money for her hard work, not you for your weird choice to separate things and make the course look larger than it is. Do better.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review! 🌟 We split chapters to optimize MoveTraining, not to inflate content. We're sorry if it feels disjointed! If you notice any bugs, please update the app and reach out via in-app support so we can help. We truly appreciate your feedback on Judit's amazing course!

### 2/5 — Can’t login

*2026-05-02, version 2.9.7*

Please fix the bug: I can’t login using chess.com, it just keep logging in and it’s stuck like that

### 3/5 — App won’t accept my chess.com login anymore

*2026-04-28*

After years of happily using this app, it recently logged me out and won’t accept my chess.com login, at least on the phone, choosing to “buffer” for potentially hours. I was also logged out on my tablet but managed to get back in using my chess.com login.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review! 🌟 We're happy to share that this login bug has been resolved. Please update the app to the latest version and try again; it should fix the buffering issue. If you still have trouble, please contact **in-app support** so we can get you back to training. Thanks for being with us for years! ♟️

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work with vpns

*2026-08-23, version 3.0.2*

When turning on vpn it auto logs out. I understand needing purchases or first log ins to be done without vpns but I should be able to use the app with it.

### 1/5 — Learning mode is bugged beyond belief

*2026-08-04, version 3.0.2*

Maybe the actual games work fine, but the learning/tutorials are the sloppiest dev work ive seen in a while. It skips moves, moves past sections without you touching anything, randomly doesnt allow you to go back to see the last step. There are pages with, for no reason, a different random font. Test you app devs, youve got a LOT to fix.

### 1/5 — Buggy App - Big let down as a whole

*2026-07-23, version 3.0.2*

Everything has a paywall now. Most of the courses won’t ever load & I can’t access them. I give up with this app & will move on to other chess learning apps. Bye!

### 1/5 — Greedy chess.com takes over Chessable

*2026-07-01, version 3.0.1*

Update 2: greedy chess.com is putting everything behind a paywall now…first they got rid of Short and Sweets, now, in case you haven’t noticed, they have gotten rid of free course slots we used to be able to get with Rubies. Well, that makes Rubies pretty much useless! Nothing for free at Chessable anymore. Why don’t they save themselves the trouble and just say BUY A PRO SUBSCRIPTION OR YOU GET NOTHING. Seriously, it’s time to switch to Lichess….support Lichess!
Update: they fixed the bug in v2.9.0 with the 2.9.4 update…so I gave the app 2 more stars for that, thank you. But still, bring back Short and Sweets please! I use Chessable everyday. I have a 640 day streak and I’ve bought several courses with videos, but I miss my Short and Sweets!! The new Variation Previews suck. I hate them mostly because I can’t organize them…they just get lumped all together into a Variation Preview. Ugh, hate it…I don’t use them at all. I loved the Short and Sweets to try out new courses and decide if I want to buy the main course. BIG MISTAKE GETTING RID OF SHORT ANS SWEETS! Also…I still prefer the web version of Chessable because… - this app is so limited… the Dashboard does not display my folders, which I like to keep all my courses organized. - this app also makes it so hard to get to my Archived courses…where the heck did they hide that option? All I see on my dashboard are Active courses. - and last, can’t really edit the courses that I create with this app…pretty buggy in that dept still, unfortunately. Old review: On iPad 7th gen, the app is TOTALLY BROKEN after updating to v2.9.0! Sometimes it just freezes at startup on the Chessable logo. If you can get past the logo freeze, going to Review variation displays "Unknown Error! ". The App is completely useless now. 😭😱 I use Chessable every day to study. The platform was great, but worse now that greedy Chess.com purchased it! NO MORE SHORT AND SWEETS!! 😡😡😡 Buggy app just got buggier!

### 1/5 — Broken

*2026-06-28*

App Login not possible

**Developer response:** We are so sorry for the login trouble! Our team has already fixed this issue in our latest release. Please update your Chessable app to the newest version, and you should be able to log right back in. If you still run into any issues, please reach out to us via in-app support to help!

### 1/5 — Terrible App filled with bugs

*2026-06-03*

The Chessable app development team is uniquely gifted at taking an app that works fine and simply wrecking it. This has happened before and took many updates before it was finally corrected. Unfortunately I recently made the error to update the app (a version that was working just fine) and now the mode trainer is just awful. There are split second duplicates of pieces appearing on the screen, the pieces don’t move as smoothly as before. What’s worse is that the app keeps crashing. Over and over and over again. For a couple of different courses I’ve been stuck trying to learn the same variation endlessly because the app keeps crashing during my 2nd or 3rd repetition. I guess I’ll be very good at that one line which I’ve been trying to complete dozens of times. But seriously, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I would advise everyone to not update this app if you are satisfied with the current version. Or just use the web browser for Chessable and avoid the app entirely. Support team is never helpful and offer nonsensical solutions (also something that has happened before). I just hope the Chessable app is restored to what it used to be months ago.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback! We’re sorry to hear about the issues with the app. Please make sure you're using the latest version, as updates often resolve bugs and performance issues. If the problem persists, please contact support for further assistance. We’re working to improve the app!

### 1/5 — Website is better

*2026-05-18*

There’s a distracting green xp banner flashing on each move, and there is no option to turn it off (it’s supposed to be in the movetrainer board options, but there is no such option in the app). This makes the app simply unusable.

**Developer response:** Hi! We want your mobile study to be just as smooth as the website. Please contact us via our in-app support so we can help you fix this XP banner distraction and improve your experience right away.

### 1/5 — Course downloads never work

*2026-04-28, version 2.9.7*

I fly frequently, and the course downloads never work. And be prepared to hear back from tech support days later - always the case, and not helpful. Sometimes, I don’t even get an email back. I’ve had Pro for 3 years, spent hundreds on courses, and I’m done. Be a serious company and don’t offer a product if it doesn’t work properly.

### 1/5 — Opening move tree

*2026-04-08*

This is so annoying! Opening move tree is really important for checking where you went wrong in tournament games. The fact is chessable says that they are going to look in to adding this feature, but they won’t. An impeccable example of capitalistic greed.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback! 🌟 We understand how important the move tree is for analysis and we're taking your request seriously. For more details on our roadmap or if you're hitting bugs, please update the app and contact in-app support. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve our training tools! ♟️

Chessable is great! I’ve studied as often as I can with good results on the chessboard. I like the review after a lesson and the clear understandable explanations if I am wrong on the quizzes.
I can’t say enough about how much I like Chessable.

*2026-05-03, version 2.9.7*

To anyone else affected, I used the forgot password flow to skip the integration.
