### 5/5 — Best chess opening app

*2026-07-05, version 1.9*

I’m 700-800 elo on chess.com, and I felt stuck on my openings. I know tactics and principles pretty well, but I couldn’t convert positions with that because my development was unprincipled. BUT this app helps me get the reps in on specific openings, and it’s set-up where I can continually practice and master certain lines to Understand development, not just memorize. That’s what sets this apart from chess.com and lichess opening study. In the future, it’d be great if you could review specific games and build a practice repertoire. Anyways, this has filled in a gap of my play along with bots, game review, playing consistently, and watching educational content from top players and influencers (shoutout Hikaru). Well done Chess Reps!!!

### 5/5 — Awesome get Chessreps

*2026-07-04, version 1.9*

Great for learning openings for chess

### 5/5 — The exact app I needed

*2026-06-23, version 1.9*

I wanted to practice more openings but using lichess and putting the PGN files in is a pain. This app is pre made and has everything you need. Super convenient

### 5/5 — Thanks

*2026-06-13, version 1.9*

Thank you

### 4/5 — Bug

*2026-06-08, version 1.9*

App won’t start again. Stuck on loading screen

### 5/5 — Great investment in chess learning

*2026-06-06, version 1.9*

If you’re like me and struggle to pick up chess strategy and lines simply from watching them via video then this app is for you. I need repetition and help with pattern recognition my openings - Chessreps provides just that!

### 5/5 — Try it, you won’t regret it

*2026-06-06, version 1.9*

Out of all the chess apps I’ve tried, this app has been the most effective app in learning openings by repetition. I would like the option to resume the game and finish the game.

### 5/5 — What I’ve searched for

*2026-06-04*

Really great app. Does everything I want, and has some good Humor. Nice, like to see more in the app. Only thing, I’d like to turn the progression bar off, but that’s some really small thing.

### 4/5 — Great way to improve at chess

*2026-05-30, version 1.9*

This is a great app that really helps memorize openings and all the variations to each opening, however one thing that I wish was added was the ability to see every single sub variation to each opening in a structured list that you can go through and pick whichever one you want to learn again, even if you have not completed all of the variations. I assume this app will receive significant updates and improve dramatically as time goes on and they will eventually add this feature, otherwise great app for memorizing chess openings!

### 5/5 — CEO takes criticism well!!

*2026-05-30, version 1.9*

CEO Ethan is working on this app alone (just found that out) and is constantly working on making the app better. Chessreps has helped me at lot as 1000elo practicing openings I never see.

Would be cool to have a “puzzles” section and it takes random positions from our openings/from games from our openings. But this has been really good.

Would also like to be able to give a community course score like 1-5 stars? Idk.

Also join the discord!

### 5/5 — Great game👍

*2026-05-25, version 1.9*

Love the graphics and the smooth running. It has really boosted my confidence in beginning and middle game.

### 5/5 — What to improve at chess? FAST!!!

*2026-05-24, version 1.9*

Great app for improving at chess fast and effectively!!! Pick any opening and starting learning immediately. Almost any opening to choose from. Practice, drills, puzzles arena. There’s many ways to learn. Start today and become better than you ever thought you could be. Good luck🔥

### 5/5 — Good for memorizing

*2026-05-22*

This is awesome for memorizing specific lines and getting that muscle memory down for bullet BUT it can not be your only chess teaching platform. Understanding the why behind chess is more important for us beginners.

### 5/5 — Chess opening training system

*2026-05-17, version 1.9*

Great app! Well worth the $35.00 bucks for a year if you want to seriously train and learn an excellent assortment of chess openings. Smooth interface and a very enjoyable training method that will definitely improve your game if diligently applied. Highly recommend!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Frustrating navigation

*2026-08-03, version 1.9*

Once I start a drill or practice I must close the app to go back to the main menu. The back arrow just simply doesn’t work. Sometimes I get an error 500 msg or something. I’m going to Lichess now. This app has potential, and the setup of games was great, but this navigation error is a deal breaker.

### 1/5 — Customer Support is missing

*2026-07-27, version 1.9*

Paid for premium 12 month subscription, 3 months left, locked out of account and support hasn’t replied in 1.5 weeks.

### 1/5 — Subscription malfunction

*2026-07-08, version 1.9*

I subscribed through apple on july 6 and used it a few times. On july 8 i was unable to log in. Seemed to be a good app but I won’t deal with a buggy program so I have canceled.

### 1/5 — Only for da rich

*2026-06-21, version 1.9*

You have ti pay money for most of it

### 1/5 — Have to pay to continue

*2026-06-03, version 1.9*

Ok the app has some potential but absolutely threw it in the trash being greedy little pigs making kids pay money to learn how to play a board game that a tutorial can easily teach you. I literally tried to play the second line and it told me to buy a membership.
In my opinion worst chess app I tried even duolingo chess is better.

### 1/5 — Charged $50 with no trial

*2026-05-20, version 1.9*

It said 7 day free trial and then $50 annual charge. I was instantly charged $50 with no trial period. I put in a request for refund and report for scam.

### 1/5 — Lessons don't open in mobile app

*2026-04-29, version 1.9*

The mobile app broke and now clicking in lessons doesn't open them

### 1/5 — New update is buggy

*2026-04-25, version 1.9*

Can’t get into a tutorial. Tapping a course does nothing

### 1/5 — Buggy app with poor developer support.

*2026-03-05*

Purchased annual subscription but I was logged out one day automatically, and since then the restore purchase stuck on “activating subscription.” Apple recognizes the subscription but the app cannot activate it. Developer not responding to emails/DMs.

### 1/5 — Arena Mode Broken

*2026-02-25, version 1.8*

Arena mode doesn’t work, you play two or three moves and then the game freezes.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Good instruction

*2026-08-16, version 1.9*

This has better, clearer step by step guidance for beginner instruction than chess.com and Lotus Chess.

### 5/5 — Important App

*2026-07-31, version 1.9*

Openings are just as important as middle game and end game tactics

### 5/5 — It’s just that simple

*2026-07-28, version 1.9*

It’s exactly what you pay for, beginnings for both white and black, some made by chessreps themselves and others by the community. Its good for openings but don’t forget about following through past the opening. I wish there were more things for black but otherwise its a strong recommend

### 5/5 — Simple

*2026-07-23, version 1.9*

This is a great tool to begin familiarizing yourself with various chess openings and counterattacks. Good prep for casual games or large tournaments! Thank you!

### 5/5 — Chess Openings

*2026-07-21, version 1.9*

I Just Love This App Keeps Me Razor Sharp On My Favorite Openings

### 5/5 — Came back

*2026-07-19, version 1.9*

I came back after a few months off because the structure of the app felt off , felt like I was forced to buy the subscription but coming back to learn openings and fundamentals is great , the upgrades are amazing . Keep going please 👍🏾

### 5/5 — Rep

*2026-07-15, version 1.9*

I like the repetition you to practice over and over again to get it. Great learning tool.

### 5/5 — Starting as a 460 ELO

*2026-07-13, version 1.9*

Let’s see if this app it better then the green hats!!! I’ve had dulingo about a year now and I feel like I barely learned anything.. let’s see if chess reps can get me to where I want to be.

### 5/5 — Amazing way to fully learn gambits, openings and counterattacks

*2026-07-13, version 1.9*

I learned the Traxler counterattack to the fried liver attack with this app and I got hooked! It really works.

### 5/5 — Awesome app

*2026-07-05, version 1.9*

Learn any opening and all the lines
