The only problem is that it seems to be lacking several important openings, like the London System and the Stonewall Defense. The developers could fix this by either adding all the openings, or by allowing users to practice openings they enter the move for themselves. ### 4/5 — Nice app *2021-03-01, version 1.1.0* Nicely done. Have just begun to use it but it seems to have quite a few openings and variations. Like that it highlights the right move if you hit the wrong piece. I wish it was a bit easier to use so I could learn from it more effectively. Two things that would make this app a 5 star app that I would be willing to pay for: 1. A back button to go back to the openings category after learning a specific opening. Right now you need to go all the way back to the Home Screen. 2. An option to use algebraic chess notation. The app uses long notation which I am not at all used to reading and memorizing, which really slows me down. I like this app a lot, it’s an awesome tool for practicing and memorizing openings through repetition. But ive been checking some of those openings with stockfish and lichess database, it seems like some of those lines have outdated moves in them. For example in kings gambit there’s this line in the app : e4 e5 f4 f5 exf5 exf4 Qh5+ g6 fxg6 Qe7+ and here it says to play Kd1, but the best move is actually Be2. Im just wondering if these are old theory lines ? Also the notation system is weird: for 1.e4 Nf6 the notation is : e2e4 g8f6 Thanks for reading me ! ### 3/5 — Moves not in algebraic notation *2021-08-08, version 1.1.0* Would have been much better to see “Nf3” instead of “g1f3”. Also, the “number of moves” slider falls outside of the screen area on an iPhone, reducing usability. (This does not happen on an iPad since the aspect ratio is different.). An other suggestion would be to add an option where we could found an opening by playing it on a board. Cons: the long notation feels dated, and clunky. Missing some main openings, would love turn off sound when ringer is on, and cosmetic piece and board changes would be great. Would pay a couple of bucks for these benefits. I’ve got some more ideas if you would like to continue developing it: - option to hide lines, such that you need to play from your mind only - option for short notation, instead of “e2e4” only state “e4”. I am not used to this long notation If you feel like you have endless time, you could add some repetition feature like in Anki, where the app will let you repeat failed lines more often than succeeded lines. It lets you play through the openings multiple times to get a sense of how each one works. It’s a little simplistic and the main controls can be awkward but over all I’m really happy with it. Something that would be helpful in future versions would be the option to read the logic behind some of the moves. Ex: I know what King’s Indian is, but it would be helpful to know the why behind each move and what the overall advantage is.
