### 3/5 — Board layout

*2026-08-13*

Constantly does a wrong board layout and no way to change it. My black pieces moves downward for some reason. Right bottom corner is H1 in app when in reality is A8

### 4/5 — Great Chess Analysis Tool, but Endgame Orientation Needs Attention

*2026-08-06*

I have been using ChessVision for more than six months, and it has become an essential part of my chess practice. The ability to scan or upload an image of a chessboard and instantly analyze the position is extremely convenient and has significantly improved my study workflow.

However, I have encountered one recurring issue, particularly in endgame positions. The app sometimes fails to correctly identify the direction in which the pawns are moving. As a result, it suggests pawn moves in the opposite direction, effectively reversing the position and making the analysis unusable.

A possible improvement would be to automatically detect the board orientation more accurately or provide users with an option to manually specify the board orientation, similar to the existing option for selecting whose turn it is to move (White or Black). This enhancement would greatly improve the accuracy and usability of the app, especially for endgame analysis.

Overall, ChessVision is an excellent application with powerful features, and addressing this issue would make it even more reliable for serious chess players.

### 2/5 — Nice when it works

*2026-06-09, version 1.3.1*

Issue is the photos too often do not capture the board correctly and there is no way to manually edit

### 2/5 — Flat out doesn’t usually work

*2026-02-24*

Most of the times I’ve tried to use this, it does not detect a chessboard, regardless of whether it is in "auto" or "manual" scan modes. Sometimes it works but the failure rate is very high. Modern AIs such as perplexity can easily create a PGN from a gif but this appears to be some ancient LLM that requires things to be absolutely perfect to work right. Stopped using it.

### 4/5 — Helps me analyze

*2025-12-04*

I pick up books on chess and read as many as possible to understand the terminology, and thought process, but this application corresponds and translates how to analyze against my myself while having matches against myself. My ELO has elevated tremendously.

### 4/5 — Subvariation

*2025-11-26*

There is no option to add subvariation between moves.

### 5/5 — Maybe the best tool for beginners

*2025-09-13, version 1.3.0*

I use it everyday, especially on yt shorts videos where i cant find the solution of a problem to get better.
Helps a lot and very easy to use

### 5/5 — Great for scanning boards in books and analyzing different lines

*2025-06-03*

The vision AI works with high accuracy, and mistakes can be edited easily. The built-in Stockfish allows me to analyze different lines, or go to the chess.com or Lichess analyzer, or even find YouTube videos with the same position. Great app.

### 5/5 — Good playment

*2025-05-31*

The App ist very good

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Annoying countdown

*2026-05-20, version 1.3.1*

Has a 24 hour countdown when you run out of scans… You’d think a daily limit that resets at 12am would be used. I used it yesterday, and 18 hours later wanted to use it today but got hit with the 24 hour countdown…

### 1/5 — The worst

*2026-03-28, version 1.3.1*

Do not download. They steal your credit card info and personal info. Be warned.

### 1/5 — Paid junk

*2025-07-16, version 1.3.0*

All this app does is link to stockfish and for the developers to start charging money makes absolutely zero sense

### 1/5 — Ruined it by adding paywall

*2025-07-13, version 1.3.0*

It’s useless now. Don’t bother downloading.

### 1/5 — Costs too much

*2025-06-04, version 1.3.0*

Does a decent job but the subscription is way too expensive

### 1/5 — V bad

*2024-10-31*

Very bad crashing

### 1/5 — Lame unadvertised premium lockout

*2024-10-16, version 1.3.0*

Just stick to using the free online alternatives, the engine they use isn’t even that fast or good.

### 1/5 — bhj

*2024-06-06, version 1.3.0*

Not Working

### 1/5 — They give you for few weeks, then I ask you ridiculous price

*2024-04-26, version 1.3.0*

They give you for few weeks, then I ask you ridiculous price 9 AUD monthly or 70 annually

### 1/5 — Will stop working with a paywall after some scans

*2024-04-10, version 1.3.0*

It will only work a few times before turning into a useless app if you don't get enough money to buy it (very high prices, by the way). Better find another way to scan and examine your chess positions. The application does not allow access to already scanned images, so the user has to scan the same image repeatedly in an attempt to force the purchase by running out of free scans.

### 5/5 — Brilliant tool for chess training

*2026-01-29, version 1.3.1*

Ideal to scan a position from a tactics book to solve it as a defensive or offensive puzzle ie switch sides and stop the tactic . Ten times quicker or more than setting up a board or inputting a position manually .
