### 3/5 — No SEARCH feature

*2020-12-28*

This app is fine if you just want to read the news that the Sun Times wants you to read when they want you to read it. If you want to search for a keyword for something that was in the news a couple days ago, forget about it. There is no functionality to do any sort of search. This is a big downside for me.

### 3/5 — Love the paper, not in love with the app

*2020-10-18*

At first glance, the app has a clean design to it and is fairly inviting. But one you start to look for the news—the content is organized totally differently than the Sun-Times website or a print copy. There’s no hierarchy to it, so it’s hard to tell if one piece is more newsworthy or late-breaking than another. Things are grouped by category, but this app would really benefit from a “front page” view that integrates the best of all sections.

### 3/5 — Great content! UX could be better

*2019-05-31*

No problem with the editorial. But the UX could have a better, more elegant design and better navigation. The fact that you have to go through a menu at the start is not appealing. I go to you because journalists are the gatekeepers of information, you are the ones that tell me what story is important. I like the app, i just think it can be better.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not a newspaper

*2024-03-16*

The Sun times is not a newspaper. It is a propaganda tool owned left wing activist billionaires.

The AP reports the new 2021 owners as “… investor Michael Sacks, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Chicago Community Trust, Joyce Foundation, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and an anonymous donor.”

You will find verbatim democrat press releases in addition to attacks on their right-wing political enemies (a list of Illinois-resident Jan 6 rioters is published weekly). Add to that openly racist and divisive content like this march 2024 article, “Nearly all of state's attorney hopeful Eileen O'Neill Burke's big contributors are white men.” Why are globalist billionaires so obsessed with fomenting racial tension anyway?

### 1/5 — New app hasn’t worked at all in over a week.

*2023-04-28*

I’m still a paid subscriber to the CST and so it is frustrating that an app upgrade has made it unusable on my Apple devices. I’m told it’s a technical glitch and to use the website to read the paper. The website does allow you to read the paper but with endlessly blinking ads above it which are very distracting. When I purchase a paper, I purchase it without having to worry about someone flashing endless distractions in my face. That should be true regardless of what format I purchase it in.

### 1/5 — For I so loved the world..

*2022-08-03*

One star because it spreads information about actually events. Kinda like a timeline would. -4 stars because it is unfortunately opinionated news to a level of discrepancy that could change a viewers outlook on the story. Sience fiction books an many others alike, hold stories that we read, to in hopes, believe. Then you shut the novel an say; “That was a good story”. News, should be nothing of the same but dull, and straightforward.

-Talk more believe/ less

### 2/5 — Please update interface and search

*2023-11-17*

I love the Sun-Times, but this app has a very frustrating user interface. The categories make no sense, I can’t find any search functionality, and the stories are in a seemingly random order. I read an article in today’s e-paper, then tried to find it on the app, and could not. Especially now that the Sun-Times and the more tech-savvy WBEZ are a joint venture, I would appreciate a better app experience. Thanks for all you do!

### 3/5 — Good app but needs search function

*2024-02-26*

The app works well for purposes of browsing. However, the absence of a search function makes it impossible for me to find articles that I want to read if I can’t find them while browsing. It shouldn’t be that difficult to add search functionality.

### 3/5 — Hard to navigate and find what I’m looking for

*2023-03-01*

Sometimes if I’m looking for a specific article or column I have a hard time finding it without going outside the app and searching on Google. I don’t find the landing page welcoming or interesting either. I love the Sun Times organization, but not the app.

### 3/5 — Review

*2022-06-17, version 4.35.710059124*

It’s a shame the Sun Times doesn’t provide any columnists or articles that might provide a different outlook than the liberal biased narrative that surrounds our City. The only reason why I read and have the paper delivered is for the Sports section. What a shame our City has lost the voice of millions of people who have different views and values. I have already canceled my local community paper for that reason, hopefully it doesn’t happen with the Sun Times, but it’s getting close.

### 3/5 — Chicago Sun Times

*2022-01-21*

As a new subscriber, I look forward to when I can actually access Fran Spielman’s podcast from this app, instead of only seeing a blank page. Would also be nice to see all the headlines that are in the online version of the paper. It’s tough to find hard news articles. In the meantime, I’ll rely on the online paper.

### 3/5 — Not the same Paper anymore

*2021-05-14*

The sports coverage is very light in in depth articles for the amount of professional teams in the city and state. Also, the coverage of High School sports has diminished greatly over the past 10 years. As a former oaper boy of said paper I am greatly disapointed.

### 3/5 — App needs work!

*2021-01-28*

Don’t bother with app notifications because more than half of the time, they don’t load the article.

When you do manage to get to an article, make sure your screen doesn’t time out because (unlike other apps) you’ll lose your place in the article.

### 5/5 — Perfection

*2023-06-01*

They finally worked out all the bugs.
This app runs smooth, it bookmarks your spot to go back to later. You no longer have to sign in over and over. Perfect!!!

### 5/5 — Sun-times

*2022-03-19*

Old habits are hard to break abs that’s a good thing. I have been a Sun-Times since 1959.

We have relocated to San Antonio Texas two years ago and I still use the Times app to keep informed on Chicago news.

I attempted to get the Sun-Times delivered here in San Antonio, but they don’t allow that service plus I believe it wound be rather expensive and since I’m retired and on a fixed income.

Thank you for your time. Chicago will always be home.

### 5/5 — Best features and reporting in Chicago

*2020-10-13, version 4.35.570056973*

I always liked the Sun Times, but in recent years with the newest format, and especially with the addition of the various magazine offerings and online content, it has been providing great reporting, important voices and offering the digital options to choose from. In these tough times for newspapers, the CST has really stepped up and delivered content and accessibility for readers. Papers around the country could take a lesson from the Chicago Sun Times.

### 5/5 — Access to Digital is Ridiculously Difficult

*2020-05-23, version 4.34.260050184*

I am a Sun Times subscriber and receive a printed paper everyday. I should have digital access when I am away from home which until recently I was able to do quite easily. Some time in April, the Sun Times changed something and I cannot get a digital paper. I keep getting into a loop where I continuously have to activate my account. I have given up trying. I get the Tribune with one click. It should be the same for the Sun Times.

### 5/5 — Zodiac and Vegas

*2020-04-19*

I was getting sun Times epaper for over a year. Since they went to something new instead of just having an email to notify you that the paper was ready to be viewed, I cannot get the paper.

### 5/5 — Sun times review

*2020-02-09*

I enjoy the Sun Times especially the Dale Bowman Outdoors articles and the Fran Spielman City Hall and Wrigley Field related articles. These are the reasons for my long term history of being a Sun Times subscriber.

### 5/5 — It’s the Bright One!

*2018-12-02, version 4.29.650039130*

As a life long Chicagoan I’ve always liked the Sun-Times. Great local news and an excellent sports section. I’ve also subscribed to their digital edition (as well as the Tribune’s) which allows me to read the same content as their print editions. I encourage everyone to support print journalism. It’s more important today than ever before.

### 5/5 — Quickly keeping snap shot

*2018-08-02, version 4.29.650039130*

I enjoy a quick daily look at the Sun Times to keep tabs on my home town from my birth in 1950 to my leaving town for the corporate world in KCMO, 1980!
Dad was a HUGE White Sox fan ( until his passing 2003) so my digs were in West Englewood, the lights of Comiskey seen in the far horizon. My then hatred for da Cubs and some Bears football. Da Bulls weren’t much to crow on but the Booby Hull led Blackhawks were exciting

In now sit daily on my lake home deck in Lake Lotawana and take a quick look daily!

Yes the Sox are down, da Cubs I’ve grown to at least look at the standings and who knows if or when da Bears, da Bulls or da Blackhawks will return

Thanks for my daily quick snap shot!

### 4/5 — Great Paper Great App

*2022-06-27*

This app and my subscription to the paper are a great addition to my daily news reading. My only negative impression comes from the overtly political and sexually suggestive ads. I wish their advertisers were better curated.

### 4/5 — Pretty Good, but needs a bookmark option

*2021-08-06*

Overall app design is pretty nice, and article layout is neat and easy to read. As a Chicago native, I can say confidently that the journalists at Sun-Times do amazing work and I consider their reporting on the city to be top notch; pretty much on par or even better than the Tribune in some cases.
