### 4/5 — Justin Fields?

*2026-07-03, version 10.0.59*

Why is there a picture of a Justin Fields story in the update? Talk about a need for an update!

### 2/5 — Difficult

*2026-06-24, version 10.0.58*

App is difficult to navigate.

### 2/5 — International news

*2026-05-14, version 10.0.56*

the current owners has dumbed down the paper. It is being run on the cheap.

### 4/5 — Closing An Article

*2026-05-14, version 10.0.56*

After closing a read article the screen should go back to where you last left…I shouldn’t have to search through different headings and articles.

### 3/5 — Stop making updates mandatory sweet lord

*2026-03-26, version 10.0.53*

Can’t login without having to update so I tend to look for the story elsewhere

### 2/5 — Running Left

*2025-12-14, version 10.0.50*

What happened to the Trib’s smart conservative viewpoint. It’s now like all the others. Year in review photos was mostly “evil” ICE agents being mean to innocents.

### 2/5 — Too Political

*2025-12-04, version 10.0.50*

News is slanted and WOKE. Even political news is shown on the Obits page.

### 3/5 — Super Mediocre App Experience

*2025-11-19, version 10.0.49*

I never knew how much better a newspaper app could be until I got the Philly Inquirer app. If the Tribune could copy and paste their app and improve graphic design like the inquirer it would be much better off!

### 2/5 — Many bugs

*2025-11-18, version 10.0.49*

Headline of today’s paper not showing up. Can’t get out of an article back to newspaper mode after reading. Some readability improvement won’t new font and layout but it doesn’t make up for all the other issues. New ones every update

### 2/5 — Not great

*2025-11-09, version 10.0.47*

New version is better, but still is often awkward. Would be nice if it there was some alignment between the primary digital and the facsimile newspaper versions:, especially on Sunday. Have a digital link to the Arts & Entertainment, Life + Travel, Thursday Food section. Life + Travel is often missing from the Sunday paper facsimile, and on those days I’ve been unable to find digital versions of features that usually appear in that section.
On the iPhone version of the Sunday facsimile, the edges of the puzzles are cut off.

### 1/5 — Fire your QC team, Or hire one

*2025-10-27, version 10.0.47*

I mostly use the app to read the daily newspaper. Up til the last couple of updates it was quirky but readable. I had long ago stopped looking at sports standings in anything other than full page mode. Article view lost all formatting. It was annoying when you stopped breaking the comic strips into individual articles. But the fix in the latest version just shows the center of the strip without any way to see the edges. The puzzles are also mostly unreadable due to missing parts. But the worst part is that if you close the app while viewing at the article level, when you return it takes you back to the article you were viewing. Great, but now there is no way to get back to the page level. The back arrow now takes you to the newspaper level. Going to try deleting the app and reinstalling to try to see pages again. If that doesn’t work maybe just deleting will stop the nightmares.

### 2/5 — Bad update

*2025-10-24, version 10.0.47*

I updated this app and now I can’t read the comics. They come too big on the screen and there’s no way to change the size. This was not an upgrade!

### 1/5 — Forced updates

*2025-10-23, version 10.0.47*

As soon as a new version is available they make the old one unusable and force you to update. Some of us have reasons for not updating — we know the “security dangers” and make our own informed choice, weighing the downsides of a slower phone and unwanted new “features” that come with updates. Such arrogance on their part!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — This App does not have in app cancellation feature

*2026-07-20, version 10.0.59*

I had this app for over a year. After a year the price was increased by 2000%. You can only cancel on the phone within a certain window of times. If you’re living overseas this is difficult.

### 1/5 — Update failed. Where’s the newspaper

*2026-07-03, version 10.0.59*

The app was updated thru the App Store. When I opened the updated app, a white screen. I closed the app and reopened it with the same result. Again, the same. I then uninstalled the app and downloaded a new version from the App Store. The same result. C’mon guys, can’t you get this right?

### 1/5 — Painful to navigate

*2026-01-17, version 10.0.51*

Without a doubt this is the worst newspaper or magazine app. I suggest they start all over instead of fixing it.

### 1/5 — Where’s the Beef

*2026-01-10, version 10.0.50*

Not only has a once great newspaper become a shell of its former self, but non-stories often appear on the front page when front page stories get buried on inside pages. It’s very perplexing. I realize the Tribune has always been editorially conservative, but it is now touching on abandoning all reasonability and responsibility. I’m not sure why I continue subscribing. And the digital edition should be automatically included with any subscription.

### 1/5 — Cannot read downloads unless connected!!???!!!

*2025-12-17, version 10.0.50*

Finally made it so the newspaper editions are able to quickly download. However, unless app stays open, cannot access the downloaded version if not online connected! Dumbest thing ever!!! The point of downloading is to be able to access without requiring the connection else why download? Do better and find people that know how to test with real use cases.

### 1/5 — Very hard to cancel subscription.

*2025-12-14, version 10.0.50*

I’ve tried cancelling my subscription but this app keeps charging me and makes it hard to switch to free account and stop paying.

### 1/5 — Maybe the worst

*2025-12-08, version 10.0.50*

Trib is dead, so the app matches the host.

### 1/5 — As bad as it gets

*2025-12-07, version 10.0.50*

This is by far the worst reading app I’ve come across. It’s clunky, hard to navigate , borderline unreadable. It seems obvious that Tribune wants to steer people towards the paper subscriptions where the money is.

### 1/5 — Why did chicagotribune become garbage?

*2025-12-05, version 10.0.50*

The website system has been experiencing issues, and subscription management is failing to load on different browsers. The news reports were superficial, and the journalists lacked professional competence.

### 1/5 — App is VERY sketchy.

*2025-11-22, version 10.0.49*

I am a paid subscriber. I used the Chicago tribune on my computer. The app let me sign in, but then tells me I’ve used up all my free reading. Wants me to spend more money. I’ve tried everything and cannot login to this app.
