It was a rough ride with lots of unkept promises from associates but eventually I received a full refund. It was difficult to get help because when you switch to credit builder money in your account appears as debt on your statement. Also, Chime is not a bank and is not FDIC insured. Read about the collapse of Yota for why this matters. I changed my review to two stars since I got the money back and because the app is useful, just be careful with credit builder. I’ve decided to primarily bank with a bank that is directly FDIC insured. Update: 30 days later and I still haven’t gotten a response or refund. Every time I call they say they’ll email me and that my issue will be escalated, but I’m still out almost $2000. Stay away from chime credit builder. Original review: Be careful of chime credit builder. After they promoted the service, I went for it. They sent me a card and moved all of my funds over onto the credit builder account. Several months later, I had over $1,700 in my account. Not debt, this was my money. Without notice they closed the account and kept the funds. I’ve been fighting with them for weeks to try to get the funds back, but they literally just zeroed out the account. When I called, they told me to contact an attorney. I contacted an attorney and he said to file a complaint with the consumer financial protection bureau. Upon review, the consumer financial protection bureau has gotten lots of complaints like this about chime. They close people’s accounts from the credit builder and then hold onto the money. If I ever get the money back, I’ll update my review, but it’s been pretty devastating for us financially. ### 3/5 — Mobile deposits *2026-08-23, version 5.340.0* I have been banking with Chime for many years. Over 6 & there was a time I was able to do mobile check deposits & then it stopped🤷🏾‍♀️. The only suspicious activity that’s occurred on my account was against me so it’s no reason. Why I shouldn’t still have access to Mobile check deposits it’s really an inconvenience at times for me and I have plenty of direct deposit history in this account. Past and current. Years of it, thousands and thousands of dollars. It’s gotten to the point where I’m really considering just closing my account. ### 5/5 — Usage *2026-08-23, version 5.340.0* About a few years back I was not to fond of getting this banking app. Reasons were I just didn't think I would need one. Fast forward to 2026, I'm satisfied with this app. Reasons is that I get my funds a couple days early then everyone else. Customer service is amazing at handling any issue if there seems to be an issue. Just recently, I've been using the credit part of this app to help with my credit score. No complaints. Highly recommended because you are in control of your own banking and usage. You can lock and unlock at any time. You have options of splitting payments with others. Saving with chime and the 3.75apr I’m getting is incredible, I’ve looked at other banks and that is the highest apr out there for a savings account. Then with spot me and the borrow feature I no longer have to live paycheck to paycheck. As well as the loans that you’re eligible for, and what’s great about it all is there is little to no interest on any borrowing. Chime is amazing, will forever use chime for all my banking and financial needs.
