If your school district chooses it, they are just trying to save money. It is so much more headache than it’s worth. It regularly is down, doesn’t show correct information and now, a new low, sends out notifications that the bus is coming way early. You think your kid missed the bus, only to call transportation and find out that the information that the app sent out was completely wrong. Well, the teachers are off on strike so I didn’t know at that point. But in the last month, it was working out fairly well, except for now when the storm has come and possibly the driver has changed buses or something because now it doesn’t work at all. It barely opens and when it does it can never find the bus - “not reporting”. There’s always something wrong with it. The bus never puts the information in there and it’s always wrong. It keeps logging me out and then I can’t log back in. I had to delete now. Nothing worked. I gave them a few months. Still no tracking, occasionally an ETA usually not. No notifications, no bus scans. Nothing. Utterly worthless. For something that is supposed to help parents track their children’s school buses, the ETA is rarely accurate, and half the time the app won’t even open when you need it. Parents rely on bus tracking for their children’s safety and to know when to have them at the bus stop. An app used for something this important needs to be dependable. I honestly don’t understand why the county approved a system that is this inconsistent. PGCPS says Chipmunk is supposed to provide real-time bus locations and accurate ETA information, but that has not been my experience at all. The app needs major improvements in reliability, loading, GPS tracking, and ETA accuracy. At this point, it creates more frustration and uncertainty than reassurance. I would not recommend Chipmunk as a reliable way to track a child’s school bus. ### 1/5 — Unreliable and Stressful for Families. Absolutely the worst *2026-08-22* The Chipmunk app is supposed to give parents accurate bus locations, estimated arrival times, and timely notifications. Unfortunately, our experience has been the exact opposite. We have received conflicting pickup times through the app, emails, and our child’s profile—sometimes multiple different times within just a few hours. The bus icon has disappeared, replacement buses have not displayed correctly, route changes have failed to update, and estimated arrival times have been completely inaccurate. On some days, the bus arrived much earlier than shown, causing children to miss it. On others, students waited outside in the Florida heat for a bus that arrived extremely late or missed the stop entirely. These are not minor technical inconveniences. Parents depend on this information to keep their children safe, get them to school on time, and manage work and family responsibilities. An unreliable school bus application creates confusion, anxiety, missed buses, late arrivals, and unnecessary stress for children and parents. A student transportation app must provide accurate, consistent, and dependable information. Until BusPlanner fixes its tracking, notifications, route synchronization, and arrival-time accuracy, I cannot recommend Chipmunk to any school district or family. ### 1/5 — Trash no sirve *2026-08-13, version 2.11.3* 0 ### 1/5 — The worst *2026-08-13* This is by far one of the worst apps for tracking a student. The biggest problem is that the location often doesn’t show at all, which completely defeats the purpose of having a tracking app. For parents who depend on this app to know where their child is, especially during transportation to and from school, this is extremely frustrating and concerning. A student tracking app should provide reliable, real-time location information. If the location doesn’t appear, the app is simply not doing what it is supposed to do.
