## What is Chocks Off?

Block Metrics is a simple, fast toolkit for pilots. Six essential tools in one app:

- Flight Time Calculator: Add up flight times in HH:MM format across up to 13 rows. Hours support 4 digits for pilots with thousands of hours. Your entries are saved automatically and survive an app restart.

- Fuel Calculator: Switch between Convert mode (Lbs, Kg, Liters, US Gallons) and Uplift mode (Required − Remaining = Uplift, shown in all four units). Choose Jet A-1, Jet A, or Avgas — or enter the real-time density from your fuel slip.

- Weather: Pull live METAR and TAF for any airport worldwide, sourced from NOAA's Aviation Weather Center. Each report is automatically decoded into wind, visibility, clouds, temperature, dewpoint, and altimeter, with the raw text shown alongside.

- Crosswind Calculator: Enter wind direction, wind speed, and runway heading to get crosswind and headwind/tailwind components instantly. Or pick an airport and tap a runway end to auto-fill the actual magnetic heading.

- Distance & Flight Planning: Three tools in one tab — great-circle Distance between any two airports with estimated flight time, Top of Descent for in-flight planning, and Nearest Airports for diversion. 5,713 airports across 200+ countries.

- Unit Converter: Convert Speed (Knots, km/h, mph), Altitude (Feet, Meters), Pressure (hPa, inHg), and Temperature (°C, °F).

Designed for the flight deck. Full light and dark mode support.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.0 — 2026-05-26

Minor Bugs fixes, idea remains the same.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-04-29

Added crosswind calculator with full runway database support.
Weather view now shows METAR decoded, TAF, and NOTAMs.
Unit Converter accessible from Distance tab.
Fuel uplift and conversion tools. Various stability and display improvements.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-04-28

A major update. Block Metrics now does live weather, in-flight planning, and a much bigger airport database — focused on what pilots actually reach for on every flight.

NEW

- Weather Tab — Pull live METAR and TAF for any ICAO airport worldwide, sourced from NOAA. Each report is auto-decoded into wind, visibility, clouds, temp/dewpoint, altimeter, and trend, with the raw text shown alongside.

- Fuel Calculator (formerly Fuel Converter) — New Uplift mode: enter Required and Remaining fuel and instantly see the uplift in Lbs, Kg, Liters, and US Gallons. The original Convert mode is still there.

- Custom Fuel Density — Tap the density label to override the 0.78 kg/L default. Pick from Jet A-1, Jet A, or Avgas presets, or enter the real-time density from your fuel slip.

- Top of Descent (TOD) Calculator — Cruise altitude, target altitude, descent angle, ground speed → start-of-descent distance, required descent rate, and time to descend. Defaults to a 3° glidepath.

- Nearest Airports — Type any ICAO and get the 5 closest airports with great-circle distance and bearing. Designed for diversion planning.

- Runway Picker on Crosswind — Pick an airport and tap any runway end to auto-fill the actual magnetic heading. No more pulling up a chart.

IMPROVED

- Airport database expanded from 599 to 5,713 airports across 200+ countries.
- Time tab now persists across app launches — your hours and minutes survive a restart.
- Hours placeholder updated to HHHH to indicate up to 4-digit hour entry.
- "X of 13 rows" indicator added so you always know how much room is left.
- Cleaner tab bar — Weather is now front and center.

Thanks for flying with Block Metrics. Feedback is always welcome.
