Knowing (all of) the history that runs like a thread through the story, I played it very pedantically and wondered about what replay value this would have. When I replayed the first time, I was tremendously thrilled to see very high replay and couldn't put it down until I got all of the possible endings and achievements. Honestly, it was so well worth it. It's a short, but very complex story. One little choice and your whole ending is changed. As I played through the first time I wondered why I was enjoying it so much. I came to the end and realized that the author, Kevin Gold, also wrote another one of my personal favorite COGs- Choice of Robots. If you liked Gold's style in COR; you'll really enjoy this novel. I've played COR multiple times and still haven't unlocked all of the Achievements. I played this one for roughly two weeks, lightly I may add, and was able to unlock every achievement. I still like to replay it though, because I enjoy the over all story. ### 5/5 — Very good! *2016-07-21* I liked the characters and setting very much. Your choices are important and you are given a reasonable amount of choices. It was interesting that the game ends with your lasting impact on the world, and I really liked finding out how far into the future I affected the lives of others. ### 5/5 — A remarkable work *2016-07-14* Choice of Alexandria is the second game written by Kevin Gold, the first being the widely acclaimed Choice of Robots. Both are incredibly rich interactive novels that reward multiple playthroughs. Although not as fantastic as Choice of Robots it is a must buy. The replay ability is amazing. I had a nostalgic feeling from the reference to Choice of Robots that was put in there. Looking forward to more from this author. ### 5/5 — A surreal experience *2016-06-20* When I read the summary for this game, I believed that it would just be another game that I played as long as it was free, but I ended up buying it for $2.99. The story makes you feel like you are the character much better than any other choice game I've played. It combined real history, fictional speculation, and a bit of well timed humor beautifully! I've played the game 4 times over, and I still want to explore more paths and branches. Overall, I would say that for the price, it was worth the 3 bucks for such an excellent experience! 6 stars! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Not worth 3 bucks *2017-11-30, version 1.0.5* Even though I seemed to have achieved the best possible outcome I found the story to be extremely short. I just love these “make your own adventure” stories but this one lacked in content. It was a good story not great and definitely not worth 3 dollars. Especially if I can finish the story in less than 4 hours. ### 1/5 — Not Free as Advertised *2017-06-04* Didn't even bother reading the first chapter. I'm highly disappointed that the game is advertised on the App Store as free, with no indication as to having to pay for more than the first chapter. If this was stated where it could clearly be seen without having to download, then I wouldn't have an issue with it. As far as I'm concerned Choice of Games is baiting downloads to boost the game's supposed popularity. Not cool. ### 1/5 — Short Sadly *2017-01-18* The writing is pretty well done, but the word count is meager and depressingly uninteractive. Only a small amount of choices really feel like they go anywhere and I'm overall disappointed. As a story by itself it's alright, but the choices are limited, the event chains are almost nonexistent and the limited romance choices annoy me. Especially since they're both characters you have to throw away all your other plans in order to romance. ### 1/5 — Seriously... *2016-11-27, version 1.0.5* U have TO PAY! I got the app for free and now I have to pay SMH! You can only read one chapter! ### 2/5 — Nope *2016-12-01* I don't care at all for this business model. It's not free to play, as 'get' button indicates on the App Store. There's not enough replay ability to be charging $2.99. And I refuse to play a game with ads. I want to pay once and play, no freemium games for me, ever. I wouldn't mind spending maybe 99 cents, but not $2.99. Overcharging on the App Store has cost them (Apple) a whole family of customers, as this game sent me over the edge. I won't be using it for games any longer, nor will my family. ### 2/5 — Banners! *2016-08-19* I really enjoy the Choice of Games series but the ad banner at the bottom RUINS my reading experience. BAD idea with this "money maker". The only appeal to text based games is the text and if you can't read it because there's a flashing banner in you face then what's the point? I don't know if I would buy it again knowing what I know now. Then again, I am comparing this to Choice of Robots, which is probably always going to be the best of these games. I just don't think that this one has the same depth or detail, but knowing what Kevin Gold is capable of I would love another one on the same level as Robots, and if that means we have to wait longer it will be a fair price to pay. ### 3/5 — Not impressed *2017-03-10* The game was very short. And the choices didn't mentally draw you into the game. You don't give a damn about the kid your tutoring. The rivalry is very weak and if you decide to kill the kid when he becomes king it just briefly goes over what happened. The story telling could have been more in depth but the whole story felt very shallow. There’s a certain style of the writer where he’s able to get you attached to these characters in so little time.
