That means the world keeps being the same old thing. ### 5/5 — Just Fantastic *2019-05-20* There’s little to say about Kevin Gold’s “Choice Of Robots” other than that’s it’s absolutely exceptional. If this isn’t the pinnacle of interactive storytelling, I want to read the novel that is. Throughout each of the vast number of varied story arcs, you’ll plunge into a unique aspect of science fiction with the aid of Kevin’s breadth of knowledge on subjects such as philosophy, war, romance, differential equations (it’s not scary), the play “Pippin” and, and (of course) the definition of life. And into this vast web, Kevin weaves stories that reflect your own with an eeriness that might lead you to believe the story itself is self-aware. Do yourself a favor and play/read this. But be warned, you’ll replay/read it. A lot. Your choices really matter and it’s such a joy to travel through all of these alternate timelines. This story is a victory, and the emotions I felt along the way were as real as they were programmed. This game blew me away *2018-06-13* I had a hard time believing all of the hype in the reviews, but I’ve got to say that this interactive novel does more in one game than most exceptional ones do in three. This is a complete package rather than that “wait for the next chapter and pay for it to continue your story” nature of really good interactive novels that I’ve seen. This is long enough to be a whole series of interactive novels and a fine one at that. Whoever made this and took the time to bleed this emotion into this piece of art, if you’re reading this, thank you. Thank you so much. ### 5/5 — Beautiful game *2018-04-27* Some may view the unorthodox text and choice style as boring or lacking in immersion, however the great writing and sense of influence you have through your choices creates a deep and personal experience. If you play the game seriously, there will be multiple points in which you face moral dilemmas. Is it moral to send intelligent beings, albeit robots into war? If not, then more humans will have to be sent instead which creates greater casualties. The writing in the game creates a strong attachments or animosity towards characters and your choices will have a noticeable impact on how the story unfolds. There is tons of replay value, however I wish there was more to be done with a single story line rather than having to replay it again in order to explore the story rich world the game offers (but that may just be me being stingy because the game was great). ### 5/5 — A masterpiece *2018-01-26* The story of this masterwork is so deep and rich I could spend years making new robots and deciding their role in my life. Sometimes, these games feel like they’re over ridiculously fast. This is NOT one of those games. I’ve played it about five times over the months I’ve had it, and you get drawn into the story every time (which is a rare quality for these types of games). The replay value on this is extremely high. As someone who doesn't like reading, this stuff is great and I recommend every other title. If you're a sci-fi fan, you're in for a ride. ### 5/5 — Tearjerker *2017-06-14, version 1.1.0* To start off my review, I think that this game is capable of making us question and ponder over the meaning of life and human existence. I have only played this game once at the time of this review, and the ending I got was one that would bring a tear to many people. By the end of the game I realised how attached I became to the characters and I proudly admit that I cried when I reached this particular ending. ### 5/5 — Amazing *2017-05-19, version 1.1.0* It's just amazing. Out of the choice catalogue this has very flexible branches, with one for each primary, and earlier ones relating to the war. Well-written and strong replayability, recommended. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — A few glitches and issues *2014-12-23* I haven't played enough of the game to say whether it's worth the money or not, but from what I've done so far I've noticed a problem. I'm not sure if it's actually supposed to be this way as a joke, or if it's a major glitch, but when I try to type out a name for myself or my robot, it doesn't work. For example, I decided to type my own name instead of picking one of the first names provided. However, after I typed in my name, it said "Unnamed. Is this correct?" I kept going back and typing the name I wanted over again but it doesn't work and only ends up leaving you as "Unamed" if you don't choose one from the list. Same thing with the robot; if you try and type it a name you came up with yourself, it basically just says "your robot- is this correct?" I'm not sure if this is supposed to be funny or if it's actually just an error, but it kind of bugs me. One of the best parts of choice games is immersing yourself into the story, which is hard to do when you can't even give yourself the name you want. Other than that it seems interesting, a bit more philosophical in certain ways than most other choice games, though I'm not sure whether that's good or not. I'd prefer a little bit more freedom to interact with more than one character instead of just being allowed to befriend one while the others end up getting neglected. ### 3/5 — Less Choices, More Philosophy *2016-03-05, version 1.0.6* Just because someone throws in a bit of Shakespeare (aka Francis Bacon) here and there doesn't make this game "philosophical". Sure, besides the quotes there are like one or two moments where you're asked a meaningful question but more often than not it doesn't amount to much else. There is no discussion, and your answers are always ridiculously terse. This is a good game though, missing philosophy aside. But is it $5.00 good? I'd say nay. I accomplished nearly everything there is to do in a single day. And I'm sure I'll forget I even played this game here in a week - which hasn't been the case for other choice of games I've played. If I were you, I'd wait till the price goes down. There are plenty of other apps out there that are actually worth the 5 bucks this whopper costs. ### 3/5 — Interesting but flawed *2015-01-03, version 1.0.2* I played through it a couple times so far and while it's a pretty good game of its kind it is buggy and at times frustrating. ### 4/5 — Almost perfect. *2020-08-05* Game is complex, interesting and has many unique endings. My only issue was the fact that they try and tell you that IQ is racist three different times depending on dialogue choices. ### 4/5 — Good Game, Replay-ability Good *2017-05-19* I liked the game. The choice is very good. You definitely feel in control most of the time, and developing the robot is extremely fun. Replaying is also a nice option as I have completed 3 runs so far. It's not perfect, but I'm glad I purchased. ### 4/5 — Grad Student's Dream? *2016-07-09, version 1.0.9* This game's depiction of a grad student's relationship with their grant chasing advisor is eerily accurate in many cases. The story also presents several political and ethical quandaries. You're left contemplating whether a grad student can strike out on their own and make their way in the world without foregoing their principles and initial enthusiasm for their field. Will you sell out your morals, chase prestige, and destroy humanity? Will you risk your life to rescue your spouse before they're sent to an internment camp during the robot wars? This game certainly doesn't limit you. ### 4/5 — Good, but a serious bug *2015-01-03* A fantastic game, with so many options and endings, I want to experience it all. However there is a major bug with the Ipad version. I am unable to make a custom name for either my protagonist or my robot-whenever I do, it calls me 'unnamed protagonist' and 'your robot'. I was hoping for an update to fix this bug but none has appeared yet. I don't want to delete my game and reinstall cause I worry I will lose my achievements. I just hope an update comes soon. ### 4/5 — Good, but Still Glitchy *2014-12-27* This game is fairly fun and consumes a bit of my time when I'm bored however being a fairly new game is definitely buggy. Like the other reviewers said it is impossible to type your own name and it makes it rather disconnecting for the player as names are a huge part of the personalization process. It also feels like you're a little powerless sometimes, like when you pick certain things so you can prevent something before it happens, they completely neglect that you even done such things. For example when you pick the hard drive that is difficult to hack, there isn't even a mention of it when the Chinese hack your companies robots; it's like you do all these things in vain. Anyway however it is still fun and worth the money, I just hope for bug fixes, and updates in the future. :) ### 4/5 — Love it, but won't let me type my name *2014-12-19, version 1.0.2* I love this storyline, but it keeps telling me when I try to type out my own name, it will always ask if my name is Unamed, no matter what I type. Same with the last name, it will always ask if my last name is Protagonist. Won't let me name my robot anything other than your robot when I try to type it out as well. Same with what it calls me.
