### 5/5 — Perfect!

*2020-02-24*

I wish I had this app when I was learning years ago but it is so well made and a great tool for teaching, learning, and growing as a guitar player. This app is perfect!

**Developer response:** Thank you! We hope both students and teachers will find ways to benefit from this comprehensive dictionary. ✨🎶

### 5/5 — When only the best will do!

*2020-02-20*

The best I’ve come across! Extremely easy to follow! :)

**Developer response:** Thank you!

### 5/5 — Just what I needed!

*2019-10-16*

Super helpful and really beautiful app! Who knew there were so many ways to play a C chord?

**Developer response:** Thank you! We didn't even know there were that many ways until we made this app. The research that's gone into coding it has revealed many amazing statistics about what is possible on the guitar, resulting in the most comprehensive and systematic dictionary of guitar chords ever created.

### 5/5 — Guitar chord dictionary tool box is amazing

*2019-09-02*

This is awesome. Shows the different inversions of chords. One drawback is that it does not show the fingering for chords, but it is relatively easy to figure out the fingering. Getting the additional feature of seeing extensions is pretty costly, it with any good software, there is a price associated with quality. Everything considered, it is worth it and if the cost of buying the extensions is too much, a google search should produce the same results.

**Developer response:** Thank you! We've worked hard to bring what is easily the most comprehensive dictionary of guitar chords ever created to the world, and we're confident that this does not exist anywhere else, including a Google search. We chose not to include fingerings as there are often multiple solutions and we didn't want to impose a logic on people. Thank you for your support!

### 5/5 — Simply the Best

*2019-08-15*

This is by far the best guitarist’s chord dictionary out there. It’s so comprehensive that’s it’s truly mind boggling. It is the ideal companion for everyone, beginner to seasoned master. Congrats!

**Developer response:** Thank you for your support! We really appreciate the kind words.

### 5/5 — Dopppppeeeeeeee

*2016-06-25*

Helped me learn the guitar after years of struggling. Owe it all to this app 🙌🏽

**Developer response:** Glad to hear it! Please check out Version 2.0 if you haven't already updated it.

### 5/5 — Best app for learning chords!

*2016-03-25, version 1.0*

Amazing app for learning guitar chords !!

### 5/5 — Superb Functionality and Content

*2016-03-23*

Wow! Best new app I’ve tried in forever. So fun to move between different chords and inversions so easily and hear them out loud at the same time. Great for adding vocabulary but also just exploring new harmonic ideas. I also love that I can seamlessly format the chords for bass as well. Five stars!

**Developer response:** We're so happy you liked Version 1, please check out Version 2.0 if you haven't already updated it! Tons of new features...

### 5/5 — VERY thorough and applicable app

*2016-03-22, version 1.0*

Ever inversion, voicing, and fingering for any chord you can think of. I am a bass player and can use the first 4 string setting to figure out voicings and arpeggios for my instrument. Extremely helpful.

### 5/5 — A true handbook

*2016-03-19, version 1.0*

The perfect app for anytime you want to work through a chord progression, or just want to strum some chords!

### 5/5 — Great for the jazz guitarist

*2016-03-19*

There aren't many apps like this, and none so well designed and intuitive.

Immediately useful for working on chord melodies. By being able to select the string set, inversion, and seeing the scale degree or note, you are able to quickly get a good sounding chord. It could be improved with extensions and substitutions, but that might also clutter things up.

**Developer response:** Your positive commentary is much appreciated, and if you haven't already we hope you'll check out Version 2.0. There are more new chord types and filtering options than ever.

### 5/5 — Great

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Paid to unlock, still waiting

*2021-03-28*

Paid to unlock the frets, almost a week ago. Hasn’t unlocked, hasn’t posted my previous review, hasn’t contacted me about a refund, or solving the problem.
DON’T SPEND ANY NONEY ON THIS APP!!!!!!!!

**Developer response:** Hello,

We received your email and did respond with a solution as well we have offered to send you a coupon to unlock it if our solutions don’t work for you. Please check your email and or spam folder. We have had very few issues with updates and are here to help.

### 1/5 — SCAM! Beware!

*2019-09-29*

This app is a complete and total rip off. It charges you 10 bucks to "unlock" 9th chords etc..Ok, overpriced but OK. THEN After that, you try to move the chord up the neck and I don't know that's another $7.99 to "unlock the neck." this is absolute highway robbery. Absolutely ridiculous no reason to do it whatsoever. Just stay away from this ripoff!!

**Developer response:** Hello, we've worked really hard to bring this incredible learning tool to the world, personally investing a lot of resources to make it available. The free version of this app already offers far more chord voicings than any of our competitors, and any guitar education book on the market will retail for over $10 and offer a fraction of what this app includes. We made it clear what the free version of the app includes, and what the paid features offer (over 100,000 chords, more than any guitar chord dictionary every created), so I'm sorry you feel it's a scam, but we can assure you we are trying to offer people high quality educational resources at a very affordable price because we care passionately about music education. The knowledge required to create this comes from many years of collegiate level research and professional experience. Thank you for giving us a try, and we hope you can appreciate where we're coming from. All the best!

### 1/5 — It’s not $2.99

*2019-07-22*

If you want to see all the chords it forces you to pay much more, too expensive, $2.99 should be total.

How do I get the free version ?

**Developer response:** Hello, the app is currently free (there was a delay from the previous version sorry about that!). This means that thousands of chords are available for free. The in-app purchases are optional. We've worked really hard to make this the most comprehensive chord dictionary available anywhere and believe that this is a great value for the content. Books with far fewer voicings easily retail for twice the cost. Thank you for expressing your perspective and I hope you find Guitar Chords Dictionary to be a valuable resource.

### 2/5 — Playing in position

*2025-01-29*

I thought this app was going to be my saving grace to help me find and play chords in a single position to get better at playing the chord changes at one position of the fret board but it moves you all around the fret board when you change the chord.

**Developer response:** Hello, if you look for the chord in question (C Major for example) it will show you all of the closest available chords in one position before moving on to the next position. It does goes across the fretboard, but it does so systematically from one position to the next. Check the settings page to enable all inversions and strings skips for more option. If you download the full version, there are literally hundreds of variations provided for chords like C Major and many others. Hope this helps!

### 3/5 — Limited to drop-2 chord voicings

*2016-03-23, version 1.0*

The app only addresses drop-3 chord voicings. The app is otherwise very well executed, but that limitation cripples it.

Drop-2 voicings (e.g., R 7 3 5) must be included if you want 4-5 stars.

Drop 2&4 voicings (e.g., R 5 3 7) would be nice to have as well, but are not as important as the other voicings.

### 5/5 — Awesome app!

*2025-09-27*

This is hands down the best chord app out there. I love the built in metronome feature, super helpful.

**Developer response:** Thank you! We put a lot of thought and care into it and really appreciate the feedback 🙏

### 5/5 — One of the best guitar apps.

*2025-06-29*

Amazing app! Looks and sounds great. Very interactive and has very special features. You can save your favorite chords and the built-in metronome/chord progression feature is pretty awesome, I haven’t seen that in any of the other apps.

It’s worth the in-app purchase to get all of the chords, but even the free version has way more options than other apps.

Thanks so much for making this available to the world!

**Developer response:** Thank you! So happy to hear you’re enjoying it 🙏

### 5/5 — Amazing guitar app!

### 5/5 — 5 stars for this app

*2022-11-12*

So far this is the best app I used, keep up the good work and upgrades .

**Developer response:** Thank you! We have some awesome new upgrades coming so stay tuned!

### 5/5 — Love it But…

*2022-05-18*

I would really appreciate being able to “like” certain chord voicings so that I may reference them more quickly as there are so many to go through. this is not a complaint but a suggestion in hopes of a feature I would find very helpful. Thank you

**Developer response:** Our new update has this feature! :D

## Most praised reviews (5 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Cool App

*2021-12-15*

Great tool for voice leading. Make your progression and then start scrolling thru inversions or root positions until you find the one that sounds good. Teaches you new voicing at the same time. Very useful

**Developer response:** Thank you! We’re always happy to hear that players and composers are finding new sounds to be creative with.

### 5/5 — As simple or comprehensive as you want

*2021-08-15*

Fantastic app!! I really like the ability to set it up as simple as possible, particularly when starting out, but then have the option to widen the chord options to an amazing 100k!

My only wish is that there was a way to “bookmark” chords that become our go-to chords for quick access. Somehow be able to filter out only the ones we’ve selected for practice and such would be a home run.

Otherwise, excellent job!

**Developer response:** The ability to save your favorite chords is now available as of version 3.0!

### 5/5 — Mike

*2021-07-18*

This app is very practical and a great reference! I used to have this huge book that wasn’t even as thorough and comprehensive. I highly recommend this app.

**Developer response:** Thank you!

### 5/5 — Great UX, comprehensive library

*2021-04-23*

I have only used the free version of this app so far, and I am impressed. For free, you get many voicing of all the chords you will commonly find in music of most genres. The interface is deceptively simple in the way you only see when the developer has put a lot of work into clarifying it. You can see the notes of the chords as frets, pitches, or intervals. You can hear the notes as a chord or an arpeggio. You can cycle through chord variants in a very logical way. It’s really nice.

Some reviews have commented on the price of upgrades, but seriously :) You get a very useful app for free, and the devs deserve to be paid for their work. They aren’t going to make nearly as many sales as a “$0.99 gem pack” in a freemium game would, so they have to charge more. Make your own cost / benefit decision.

Time for the crazy wish list part of the review! Support for alternate tunings and capos would be nice. It would be amazing to be able to pick a key and see the notes of a given chord as intervals relative to the key. Scales and arpeggios would be amazing, but might need a new app. Another killer feature would be finding chords that are easy to move between. Something like, “What is the G variant most similar to this particular C variant?” Another idea is to pick chords into a progression, and then play them in a loop, or with a metronome.

Thanks for the great app!

**Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback! We really appreciate your support and ideas for the future of the app. We would love to create a separate scales app in the future and your idea for a chord progression/metronome sequencer is high on our wish list too. We hope to provide all that and more as soon as possible. 🙏

### 5/5 — Excellent and super practical!

*2020-05-15*

Simple to use and practical for guitar learners like me!

**Developer response:** 🙏👍🎶
