## What is Chordalyst Piano?

Chordalyst Piano helps you learn piano chords, scales, and accompaniment from chord symbols and beautifully engraved scores. Practice on the on-screen keyboard or with a Bluetooth/USB MIDI keyboard.

Course Practice contains 61 sections—12 Beginner, 14 Intermediate, and 35 Advanced—covering keyboard and chord names, inversions, scales, progressions, two-hand playing, quarter- and eighth-note patterns, broken chords, arpeggios, and accompaniment patterns. Waltz, Octave, and Ballad patterns are included. Questions you do not pass return automatically for review.

Basic Practice lets you focus on chords, inversions, ten named scale types in all 12 tonics, progressions, two-hand playing, rhythm patterns, broken chords, arpeggios, and accompaniment. Broken-chord choices include Bass then Upper Chord, Alberti, Waltz, Octave, and Ballad patterns. Genre Practice offers representative progressions and scales for J-pop, Rock/J-rock, Anime/Game/Vocaloid, K-pop, Western Pop, Classical, Hip-hop/Rap, Jazz, Enka/Kayōkyoku, and R&B/Soul.

Song Practice includes nine pieces grouped by difficulty: Ode to Joy, Pachelbel's Canon, WTC Book I Prelude No. 1, Für Elise, Gymnopédie No. 1, The Entertainer, Turkish March, Clair de Lune, and Maple Leaf Rag. Auto Advance plays the melody from each correctly performed chord up to the next chord point.

Import your own Standard MIDI Format 0 or 1 file, including directly from Files or another compatible app. Chordalyst Piano converts notes, durations, rests, chords, independent voices, beams, ties, and mid-song key, meter, and tempo changes into a MusicXML piano grand staff. If the MIDI contains no chord markers, chord names are inferred from its notes. Use piano playback, a gold position cursor, automatic scrolling, and separate melody, chord, and metronome volumes. Automatic conversion and chord inference may not reproduce every choice in a source score.

Import only MIDI files you created or are authorized or otherwise legally permitted to use. Saving, engraving, playing, or exporting does not transfer copyright or other rights; confirm any additional permissions required before publishing, distributing, or sharing the material.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.3 — 2026-11-05

Corrected the recommended right-hand fingering for Broken Chord “Bass then Upper Chord” to 1–3. Two-Hand exercises now favor inversions that avoid excessive overlap between the left-hand bass and right-hand chord while staying within the 25-key display range.

Recommended fingering now remains visible through the end of long scores and scores extended with Practice Again repeats.

Keyboard Selection is now always available above the three practice choices on Home. After choosing a Bluetooth MIDI device and tapping Done, the app returns directly to Home.

German app localization, Getting Started, all 19 manual chapters, course guidance, and App Store information are now included.

The standard metronome is now separate from grading, so clicks and the pendulum no longer advance a question. Beat-by-beat grading remains available as an explicit option. A stopped metronome panel can also be closed from the top control. Italian localization is now included.

### 2.2 — 2026-11-04

Recommended fingering is now available for Inversion, Scale, Two-Hand, Broken-Chord, Arpeggio, and Accompaniment scores.

Numbers 1 (thumb) through 5 (little finger) appear above right-hand notes and below left-hand notes. Repeated identical patterns show the guide only at the first occurrence to keep the score clear. Show or hide Recommended Fingering independently from Display Settings.

Fingering is a suggested example for curated exercises. The app does not detect or grade the fingers you use, and it does not generate fingering for scores imported from your MIDI files. Final-review course sections hide it with the other answer guides.

French app localization, Getting Started, the complete manual, and App Store information are now included.

### 2.1 — 2026-11-04

Fixed a case where a score could remain blank until a keyboard was used. Engraving now waits for a valid display area and confirms visible staves or notes before completion.

Basic Practice 07 now adds Waltz, Octave, and Ballad patterns. Item 07 covers five single-chord accompaniment patterns, 08 covers continuous arpeggios, and 09 applies techniques to chord progressions. The three new patterns are also included in Course Practice, which now contains 61 sections. Manual item 04 always uses a chord sequence.

Practice Results now offers 1–10 repeats. Choosing another practice method starts the newly configured practice directly.

Melody + Chords is now the default Song Practice playback mode. Melody, chord, and metronome volumes use saved sliders, and Auto Advance better recognizes repeated instances of the same chord.

You can now send .mid or .midi files directly to Chordalyst Piano from Files or another compatible app.

### 2.0 — 2026-11-01

The app is now named Chordalyst Piano.

The new Song Practice includes nine pieces grouped by difficulty and can save and reopen your own Standard MIDI files. MIDI notes, rests, independent voices, beams, ties, and key, meter, and tempo changes are converted into a clear piano grand staff. When chord markers are absent, the app estimates chord names. Use piano playback, automatic score following, and Auto Advance, which plays from each correct chord up to the next chord point.

We redesigned Home and the analog metronome. Tempo is adjustable in 1 BPM steps, and the metronome remains aligned to beats and bars during song playback. Basic and Course Practice now share the same engraving engine with stable score positioning. This version also adds genre-based progression and scale practice, practice-method reselection from Results, and many learning and display improvements.

MIDI File Usage Notes and the manual now explain copyright and license considerations for importing, saving, engraving, playing, exporting, publishing, and distributing MIDI files and generated scores.

### 1.1 — 2026-10-20

Added Genre Practice with named representative progressions and scales for ten genres. Scale Practice now lets you choose from all 12 tonics and ten named scale types.

We reorganized practice display controls so the chord name and score are easier to follow. From Practice Results, you can add 0–10 one-time repeats of the same practice. Scores now use fixed multiple rows when space allows, with refined clefs, stems, flags, accidentals, and 4/4 placement. Manual single-chord and two-hand practice now recommends four repetitions.
