What's New in Chordio

3.1.8

July 13, 2026

Introducing Harmony Explorer A brand-new tool for understanding and building richer chord progressions, right from the Composition workspace. Detected Scales: Instantly see which scales fit the chords already on your canvas, and click any match to set it as your song's key. Chord Suggestions: Browse chords organised by function, including Chords in Key, Borrowed Chords, Secondary Dominants, Tritone Substitutions and Cadences. Preview any chord, then add it to your progression with a single click. Relationship Colours: Turn on relationship colouring to see, at a glance, how every chord in your progression relates to the key, with colour-coded borders and Roman numeral badges for diatonic, borrowed, secondary dominant, tritone substitution and chromatic chords. Flexible Key Selection: Explore any major or minor key using the built-in key picker, follow the key of whichever chord you select, or automatically match your song's key signature. On Mac, Harmony Explorer opens in its own resizable window, so you can keep it open alongside your composition. Faster Chord Editing Right-click any chord cell to change its quality or extension on the fly, choosing from Major, Minor, Dominant and Suspended chord families without rebuilding the chord from scratch.

Best of its kind

Chordio is by far the best app of its kind. I use it every day in the studio as a writing tool for work. The creator is also super friendly and passionate and continuing to make it even better. 6/5 stars!

Constant interruption

What's the point of offering free features if an "upgrade to premium" prompt CONSTANTLY cuts the audio, the MIDI input and interrupts the flow? I can't experience what the app has to offer for more than a minute at a time. I can't record chords ideas because of this. Bad pushy design.

Chordio is the app I’ve been looking for !

What a great app with such a useful set of tools for learning. Connecting to a DAW is so simple too. It also has a good piano sounds but I like going through Ableton live to use my piano of choice while working in Chordio.

Great but not for Germans ;)

Great program, all I ever wanted to show my students keys, scales and chords. But I’m missing a setting for German note names. I read “H” but hear “B,” and I read “Bb” but hear “B.” A solfège setting (e.g., for France or Italy) is also missing. With these features, it would be an instant buy for me. Unfortunately I can’t use it in class this way.

It would be nice if you don’t ask me to pay every 2 minutes
