### 5/5 — Happy Customer

*2025-09-27, version 1.6.4*

Easy to use & fulfills all my needs in a tracker. Gets my recommendation.

### 5/5 — 👍

*2025-09-17, version 1.6.1*

Great as a chores tracker

### 5/5 — Cool app

*2025-08-08*

I like the app, I am using it in combination with a physical calendar to keep track of things. There’s something beautiful about physically adding a thing to the calendar but it doesn’t automatically keep a count or history, so that’s where this app comes in handy.

I found and reported a bug to the developer, it was fixed and shipped on the same day 🚀. I downloaded the latest version and verified that the update fixes the issue.

Love it ❤️

### 5/5 — An Essential App

*2025-07-27*

In a little over two years this has become an essential app for me. I use it track my health, my fitness and my work. I love the interface, especially on the Apple Watch where it is full featured. I have only one request: can we please get a reminders function? That will turn it into a suitable habit tracker as well. Thanks for all the hard work you put into this, Rebecca.

**Developer response:** Hi Steve, thank you so much for your kind words - it really means so much as an indie developer! I am currently working on custom reminders per category, so I hope Chronicling can also serve as a habit tracker soon. Best wishes, Rebecca

### 5/5 — All in One! 10/10

*2025-06-21*

It's the only tracking app that has groups + Y/N and notes feature for your habits/goals + charts and graphs + beautiful widgets + heat map + apple shortcut integration for completion and export text + icons + apple journal integration + summary infinity scroll of all completions day-wise + individual habit chart range weekly/month charts +++ aaaaand the developer is amazing ❤️

### 5/5 — Wonderful app!

*2025-05-20, version 1.5.6*

Very well designed app with perfect features, exactly what I needed! I love all of the visualizations and the widgets. This works better for me than any habit tracker.

### 5/5 — Amazing, but we need a macOS version

*2025-04-29*

Rebecca has done a stellar job on this app, with my only complaint being that it isn’t a great experience on macOS. Hopefully, she’ll bring it o macOS sooner rather than later as I truly love this app!

**Developer response:** Thanks for your kind words about Chronicling! I do plan to bring it to macOS someday, to round out the Apple platforms. I appreciate a native solution would be an improvement. Best wishes, Rebecca

### 4/5 — Needs more icons

*2025-03-20, version 1.5.3*

A very quickly boring interface.

More icons would help.

More chart styles and data would help. Insights into time of day something was tracked and so on.

### 4/5 — Search please?

*2025-03-13, version 1.5.1*

Being able to search events logged would be make this a 5 star app.

### 5/5 — Without a doubt, the best!

*2025-01-18*

Chronicling is the standard for habit tracking, but works equally well to track anything you want. It has a very smooth workflow that is as easy to use as it is intuitive. Highly customizable in all of the right ways with zero bloat. One of my absolute favorites apps and the dev is fantastic! I’m looking forward to it eventually coming to macOS. 🙂

### 5/5 — Simplicity

*2025-01-09*

This app is perfect for my ADHD tendencies. I can keep track of things in the long term as opposed to feeling like I’ve failed by “breaking a streak” which helps keep me optimistic. It’s so simple that if I forget to log something for a few days or even weeks, I can easily go in and add those missing data points without getting overwhelmed by a bunch of fields to fill out for each one. Super useful tool in keeping track of my life.

### 5/5 — Best ❤️ Tracking App with note field and custom groups 🙌

*2024-12-21*

I really like the ability to but categories into custom groups. I track everything from life events to Tesla charging to Doctor appointments to choirs I do to dropping off dry cleaning. Even tracking my son’s medication. I can’t tell you how many times my wife is like when was the last time this happened and with this app I can easily refer back to ten last time an event happened. I also love the notes features it gives and all the different colors and icons you can choose from. Would love an Apple Watch ⌚️ complication. I can’t say enough good things about this app. I also like how you can easily swipe from right to left to add an event. The Ui is sold give it a try I bought the one time premium version because I don’t like subscription totally worth it. 🔥🔥🥇

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your kind review! Chronicling does include watch complications - please drop me an email at support@chroniclingapp.com and I'll help try and figure out why they are not showing up for you. Best wishes, Rebecca

### 5/5 — Clean, simple, focused

*2024-12-14, version 1.4.5*

Real time journaling and mood prompts overwhelm me. Chronicling lets me tap to note what I was doing and I can reflect later—if I want.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app for tracking anything

*2024-11-24*

Appreciate the ease of use and flexibility of using this for tracking virtually anything. Also an incredibly responsive developer! I can highly recommend this app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Steals your money

*2025-10-06*

Downloaded this tonight and decided to try out to 2 week free trial for $9.99 a year. As soon as I subscribe to the trial which isn’t supposed to charge me until October 19th I get a charge to my card from apple for the same exact amount. Don’t call it a free trial if it isn’t actually free. They better hope I don’t get charged again on the 19th since they’ve now already had me pay for the full year.

**Developer response:** Hi there - I’m sorry for the confusion and frustration this caused. The app itself doesn’t process payments directly - everything goes through Apple, so if you saw an immediate charge, it’s most likely another unrelated App Store purchase. The trial confirmation is shown on the purchase page, and you won’t be charged for Chronicling until the trial period has elapsed - unless you choose to cancel before then.

If you believe you were wrongly charged, you can always request a refund through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Best wishes,

Rebecca

### 1/5 — Bugs

*2025-09-17, version 1.6.1*

Can’t stand that it automatically alohabitezes lists making it harder to find things. Plus I can not add anything. When I hit the plus sign nothing happens

### 1/5 — Simple & Effective

*2025-01-30*

Currently a tusing the free version ang d have been for a few weeks now. I am using to track an as-needed medication that is time-sensitive (lasts about 5 hours) but doesn’t require to be taken at specific times that may require reminders. I found the Apple native Health app to do what I wanted as well, but it was far too cumbersome. I wanted to be able to pinpoint if it was taken and the time it was taken and this app does that very effectively!
It’s also very easy to record information; all I do is: add an event, edit timestamp, done!
I am considering subscribing to the premium version, which is 99¢/month. A nominal fee for very effective management of life’s data points.

**Developer response:** Hi there, thank you for your kind words about Chronicling! I wonder if you intended to choose the one star option? If not, I’d kindly ask you to revise the rating, it really helps me as a single person team. Thanks! Rebecca

### 1/5 — Asked me to purchase within using the app for 10 seconds

*2024-10-22, version 1.4.1*

Not a fan of task apps asking me to pay when I’m trying to catch up with tasks that I’ve put off due to depression.

### 1/5 — Not worth the hype (nor price)

*2024-10-05*

I read about this app and played with it for over a month but I just can’t see the hype on it and stick with it.

The app has some weird bugs every now and then where it doesn’t open anything when tapping and forces you to relaunch.

The functionality is very barebones, literally it just logs stuff and shows some charts.

And while this is personal, I just don’t think it looks good, looks like any other sample app. Some very weird design choices in some places, but your mileage might vary.

All things considered this just looks a little hasty made for the price.

### 1/5 — Deleted the app after update

*2024-02-20, version 1.2.27*

This app now is worthless. After the update it got rid of the number of days prior to 2024
This app is now completely useless to me

### 1/5 — Zero Stars

*2024-02-16, version 1.2.26*

Uninstalled as quickly as I opened the app and clearly it is not free...limited functionality unless you paid with your first born. :(

### 2/5 — Was good until…

*2024-12-05, version 1.4.4*

I love using this app to keep track of everyday things. It was working great until about a week ago, now it will not let me log any past tasks that I may have forgotten to put in. It only logs current tasks which is very frustrating. Please fix this issue

### 3/5 — Decent app, meh price

*2026-06-07*

I have no doubt the craft that goes into the app takes real effort. There is real love in here.

Having said that. This is a 40 dollar habit tracker. Does it earn the price? Less confident.

The marketing is cute, but ultimately this is a database logging tool with extremely basic visualizations. Sync/export is solid. Do your own research, as the sales funnel does not have a viable free edition or low cost option.

I myself use it though.

Pricing 1/5, Features 3.5/5, UI polish 5/5, UX 4/5. Multi-device is great.

Better visualizations, better logging options, would bump up feature/UX rating more. Pricing is industry, despite indie dev framing.

### 3/5 — Watch complications

*2024-06-01*

I really want to use this, but I dont see the advertised complications in the list. I have been checking for updates from a while but its still not fixed.

**Developer response:** Hi there, thanks for your feedback! Complications rely on suggestions based on categories synced to the watch from your iPhone - please try opening the watch version of the Chronicling app to check it has synced everything, and see if the complications are available after this. If this doesn't work, please drop me an email at support@chroniclingapp.com. Rebecca.

### 5/5 — Simple but powerful!

*2026-03-31, version 1.8.6*

I was looking for an app where I could track whatever I wanted by just tapping a button as many times as I want — I looked for SO LONG, tried so many apps, but none were as simple and customizable as this! Other apps were either inflated with features, required more than one tap to log, did not have widgets, or didn’t have the ability for multiple entries.

I really like Chronicling because of its simplicity — it’s not inflated with features and requires very minimal effort to add an entry once you’ve set up the categories you want to track. I really like that you can group your categories too. After setting those up, you just tap on the icon and it logs the time and date immediately (down to the second!) without any other work necessary. There is the option to add notes if you like but if you want anything further than that then you might be better off with a journaling app instead.

I’ll list my pros, cons, and suggestions below!

FYI, I paid for the full version! I only used the app for a day before I decided to buy because I knew it was everything I needed and I’d definitely need more than the free three categories. But I do think you can use the free version of this app without running into problems if you’re more of a light user!

PROS:
- One tap logging — tracks the date and time (can add additional notes if needed)
- Multiple entries allowed
- Categories can be color-coded and organized into groups
- Option to backdate or postdate entries
- Option to import/export data as a CSV
- Heatmap-style charts
- Modern UI and interactive widgets
- “Go to” date option, entries are searchable and can be filtered
- No AI! (If there are AI options, I haven’t gone looking for them and I can’t thank the app’s creator enough for not shoving it down our throat — thank you Rebecca!!!)

CONS:
- Limit to unique titles — duplicate titles are not allowed, even if they are in different groups. This was common in other apps I tried though!
- Does not backup to iCloud so you cannot use across devices. If you want to track on a separate device, the data set is not shared — you will have to create everything again. There are options for an Apple Watch but I don’t own one so I can’t comment. I mostly want to be able to move between my iPhone and iPad.

SUGGESTIONS:
- iCloud backup — I really want the ability to access my entries across devices!
- Collaborative tracking — it would be nice if others could be added to a category/group so they could add entries to the data set as well.
- Grid view — right now the categories and events show up as an interactive list on the main page. It would be really nice to have an interactive grid of icons with the event’s title, like a button grid.
- “Events view” details — currently, the events view shows a list of times and is denoted by the category’s icon. If you use the same icon for multiple categories, it’s difficult to know which entries you’re looking at without tapping into the entry completely. In the same way you can see notes in this view, I think it would be helpful to also see the category title!

### 5/5 — Widget provides great Motivation

*2026-03-12*

While this didn’t do what I wanted out of the box it is customizable enough that I could get it to work how I expected and the widget showing me progress for exercising has been a great motivator to keep filling in the dots each day.

### 5/5 — Excellent tracker

*2026-02-18*

Does everything one would want it to

### 5/5 — Beautiful

*2026-02-02, version 1.8.4*

Great UI and UX design. Really appreciate the Watch complication too

### 5/5 — Simple but powerful

*2026-01-17*

This app is gorgeous and incredibly well designed. The event visualizations, in particular, look fantastic. It is simple yet powerful and it has become one of my new favorites. I also love that it’s private and ad free. I highly recommend this app to anyone looking for a great habit tracker, or simply wanting to keep track of chores (or anything, really).

### 5/5 — Stunning!

*2026-01-11, version 1.8.3*

Has proved instrumental in tracking my chronic illness symptoms. So logical and visually obvious. The best pacing solution I have found to date. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Organizing my life beautifully

*2025-11-05*

I am insistent in my need to organize and systemize whatever I can in my life to provide some calm in my day to day. I have used many apps to track my workouts, how often I meditate, when I read, and many other daily and weekly occurrences, but Chronicling is by far the most intuitive, polished, and effective I’ve used. Highly recommend for anyone looking to provide some structure in their life.

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2025-11-03, version 1.6.5*

Brilliant app. I was looking for something simple to track my migraine frequency and plot on time graphs. This does it perfectly, so simple. The dedicated migraine apps were all crazily over-complicated!

### 5/5 — Perfect life tracker

*2025-10-06, version 1.6.5*

Chronicling is the perfect tracker for everything in your life. Looks great, works great, and the shortcuts support is fantastic.

Best tracking app out there!

### 5/5 — This is the app you are looking for

*2025-09-28, version 1.6.5*

Chronicling is the tracker I have been looking for, with widgets and detailed views, this app is beautifully made. Simple and yet powerful charts and stats. Will be my go to app for tracking always.
