### 4/5 — CPR Review

*2026-01-14, version 6.2.18*

Not as easy to use as the prior.

### 4/5 — ‘GUC

*2025-03-16, version 6.2.18*

WGUC was the first public broadcast/classical station I listened to. I have been listening to WGUC often on since then, that would be the late 1960s or early 70s.
I now live in Florida and the app gives me access to great programs such as Sunday Morning Baroque, which has been one of my favorite programs for decades.
The app is not difficult to use although I must admit I don’t use it enough to have had any issues.
It reconnects me to the city. I grew up in with music that I absolutely love.

### 3/5 — Stops a Lot

*2024-10-29, version 6.2.18*

I love WVXU. I love the NPR programming. I listen to the “live” broadcast on this app, but it puts itself on pause a lot. I have to constantly get my phone out of my pocket and press play on the app. It happens so much it sometimes makes me just want to turn it off. I deleted and reloading the app but it still does it.

### 4/5 — Still lacks a significant feature

*2024-09-30, version 6.2.18*

I use this app to listen to WGUC, which it’s what I used the previous version for. The one feature I was hoping to see in the new version is an easy way to see what piece is playing at the moment. I have to either scroll through the day’s playlist to get to the current hour or go to the WGUC website, where it’s displayed right on the home page. I’d love to be able to just glance at my phone or my smartwatch and see what’s playing.

### 5/5 — Works fine

*2023-01-14, version 4.5.70*

I’ve been using this app for several years, and I have had no problem at all. They begin the broadcast with a pitch for money, but I can skip that ad and go right to the good stuff. I like it!

### 3/5 — Jazz playlist doesn’t work

*2022-11-24, version 4.5.56*

Jazz playlist is from months ago. Searching the playlist doesn’t work.

### 3/5 — Slow load

*2022-09-21, version 4.5.56*

I use this app often, and in the last month or so, have noticed a long load time from the splash screen. The load time used to be instant from splash screen to app function; now it’s needlessly there for longer than it needs. Have had to abandon way too many times.

### 4/5 — Bulls Review

*2022-09-14, version 4.5.56*

This app is very slow. Most time I use another app.

### 5/5 — Great way to listen to my favorite station!

*2022-06-15, version 4.4.69*

Since discovering WVXU, I am an everyday listener and the app is what I usually use to listen because it goes where I do without requiring an actual radio. I especially enjoy being able to listen with my earbuds so I’m not bothering others in my household if they’re involved in something else. My only disparaging remark is that sometimes my feed is interrupted for unknown reasons.
Not sure what that’s about but it’s not enough to keep me from using the app!

### 5/5 — Working great

*2022-04-02, version 4.4.69*

Haven’t had any issues with the latest version of the app. Easy way to get relevant, local news from a reliable source. I like the option of written or audio for many stories.

### 4/5 — Listener

*2021-12-21, version 4.4.69*

Good most of the time, but had to reload because of cutting out. Great station; okay app.

### 5/5 — Love to be able to listen on phone + earbuds without bothering anyone.

*2021-12-20, version 4.4.69*

Love the app. If I wake up at night, I can get back to sleep. Easy to use. When it acts up, I delete the app and reload it. Then it’s back to normal. Any tech support I have spoken with recommends deleting and reloading apps. You don’t lose your data and you may need to sign/log in again.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No live feed?

*2025-03-27, version 6.2.18*

I used the earlier iteration of this app to listen to the Morning Edition and 1A programs. It was a nuisance, because of spontaneous interruptions and glitches in the continuity, but it was better than nothing, which apparently what this current app offers.

### 1/5 — News feed repeats

*2024-06-05, version 4.6.14*

For a couple of months the WVXU feed repeats sentence after sentence over and over in a loop?

### 1/5 — Practically unusable

*2023-12-22, version 4.6.14*

Since the NPR app updated, its usability for written news stories has gone way down hill. Based on that, I figured I should finally get around to downloading the more local app, only to find out that it’s even worse. Instead of being a coherent visual, there’s way too many tiny icons whose titles are cut off. To make matters worse, when you like on any story to read it, the text is way too small and lacks any sort of text layout. It’s like reading a website from 1999.

### 1/5 — The App is needlessly burdensome with time of loading and number of clicks

*2023-09-19, version 4.6.14*

I wrote this review for years ago, and the situation has gotten no better sense. The app continually stops working, must be deleted, must be reloaded. It’s quite frustrating. I also have used the KCRW app and I never have any of these problems with it. It loads quickly. It does not fail and does not cut out. I wish that WVXU Would revamp the app into ways: 1). streamline the app, so that it loads more quickly. There’s so many features in it, that it takes a long time to load. 2). Work on the app so that it does not repeatedly fail, and require deleting and reloading. When you click on the icon, there is needlessly long wait for the app to load. Then when it opens, after you click play, you must quickly move to the opposite side of the screen and click skip so that you don’t have to wait through advertisements. These two negatives are not necessary. For instance the KCRW app loads much more quickly and does not require you to hit skip to avoid being exposed to a series of ads. I fervently hope that the powers that be a WVXU will simplify the WVXU app so that it is much more user friendly. Finally, I don’t know if any other app goes south in must be deleted and reloaded answer often as this app. It rarely lasts longer than a month on my phone before I have to it stops functioning, I have to delete and re-load.

### 1/5 — What happened?

*2022-09-13, version 4.5.56*

Used to be a solid, useful app but lately just freezes on opening. Haven’t been able to use it for weeks.

### 1/5 — Still Hangs

*2020-08-20, version 4.4.64*

Latest update seemed to be better for not losing connection to live stream, but then back to same problem. Deleted and downloaded again ...no good. Call WITF for their code. Simpler steaming connection and much more robust

### 1/5 — Stream stops again and again

*2020-04-03, version 4.4.34*

Even on WiFi the stream stops
