### 5/5 — Roguelike Legend

*2019-04-26*

To put it simply, this is my most played IOS game over the last few years. It can be frustrating at times but it's an incredibly fun ride. Truly genius design.

### 5/5 — Absolutely brilliant Rogue-like deconstructed

*2019-02-21*

Believe it or not, figuring out the Portuguese is part of the game. Trust me, it’s awesome. Buy his immediately and get his equally brilliant Imbroglio as well.

### 5/5 — A perfect game.

*2019-01-04*

Cinco Paus is a game that deserves everyone’s attention, but wants no one’s. Its the most frustrating, rewarding, secretive, thoughtful, incredible roguelike that I’ve played in ages. I can’t recommend it enough.

### 5/5 — Really good

*2018-12-21*

Amazing game. Brough never disappoints. Fresh and original.

### 5/5 — Brilliant Game

*2018-10-22*

by a brilliant game designer.

### 5/5 — Nothing else like it

*2018-09-26*

This is an excellent little game! I love it and play it everyday. Well worth the money if you’re into strategy games. As was said by someone else, you don’t really need the English. It takes a little while to learn what everything does, but once you do, it’s so addicting!

### 5/5 — Micheal Bough is Incredible

*2018-09-17*

There is simply no comparison to his creativity in his games. By far my favorite developer of all time.

### 5/5 — Very clever little tactics game

*2018-02-27*

You have 5 magic wands, each wand has 5 random hidden abilities. Explore a perilous dungeon and your wands are your only hope of survival.

A very clever game; once you wrap your head around it, it has deeply satisfying depth and strategy.

### 5/5 — Very, very, very fun

*2018-01-18*

If Michael Brough didn't exist then the God of Apps would have to invent him. A while game about unidentified magic wands. One more go factor is strong with this one.

### 5/5 — Michael Brough’s best game

*2018-01-12*

A wickedly clever game. You don’t need to speak Portuguese to discover what the abilities. When you think you’ve seen everything in the game, then you discover artifacts and the game changes drastically again. Very 👌👌👌👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥

### 5/5 — Segredos

*2018-01-10*

Cinco Paus is full of secrets.
Cinco Paus makes you learn.

I learned from Cinco Paus.
I understood Cinco Paus.

Then a new thing happened.

Cinco Paus is full of secrets.

### 5/5 — Great.

*2018-01-03*

This one has an almost comic level of initial unfriendliness but if you have the patience and curiosity to paw past the mischievous befuddlement - very smart, fun, addictive game.

### 5/5 — Gorgeous and perfect

*2017-12-31*

I've loved all of Brough's iOS games, and this one's already enthralled me for hours a day since its Christmas release. 868-Hack and Imbroglio are still delighting me years after their release, and I'm fairly certain this one will too.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2017-12-28*

This was a great buy. I’ll be playing this obsessively for months.

### 5/5 — Fascinating

*2017-12-27*

Fascinating as usual from Brough.

### 5/5 — He does it again

*2017-12-26*

And this time he does it in Portuguese. Amazing. I have never been so glad to be messed with.

I am not sure if I should learn Portuguese or just embrace the experience of learning something I do not understand through experimentation.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 3/5 — Ridiculously difficult

*2020-05-18, version 1.07*

Difficulty is so high as to make this inaccessible except for the most gifted or dedicated few. That’s a shame. Otherwise it would be his best yet.

### 4/5 — Ridiculously difficult

Difficulty is so high as to make this inaccessible except for the most gifted or dedicated few. That’s a shame. Otherwise it would be his best yet.

### 5/5 — We love casting spells

*2026-06-01*

Nothing beats the rush of firing mysterious wands at an approaching group of enemies praying that one of them will miraculously save you from your mistakes, only to accidentally duplicate the threat.

The concept is just so nice, you have all the tools you need at the start of the run, you gain power to fight harder threats by learning what your equipment is.

### 5/5 — A perfect mobile game

*2026-03-21*

How have I not reviewed this game yet?! It’s been on my phone for YEARS and I play it basically every day. The perfect mobile game, perfect compact TBS roguelike, infinitely satisfying and compelling. There’s definitely a learning curve with the Portuguese text, but there’s a wiki online that explains everything if you need it. And trying to work things out on your own just adds to the vibe when you’re starting out! I have completed this game (i.e. a 50 game run) ONCE in all my years of play. Maybe I’ll do it again? Maybe I won’t? It doesn’t matter - It’s still great every time. Thanks Michael Brough!

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2025-07-12*

and esoteric game by a brilliant and esoteric game designer.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2025-07-05*

and arcane game by a brilliant and arcane game designer.

### 5/5 — Fünf Stäbe

*2025-06-23*

### 5/5 — Beautiful Design

*2022-11-09*

If you don’t mind thinking hard about strategy and losing a lot then this game is my foremost recommendation. The fact that the game is not in English is not a problem: these games are learnt through playing, not reading.

### 5/5 — Probably the best turn based single player strategy game ever

*2021-05-06*

Have had this on my phone since it came out and still play it. It’s timeless and genius on many levels. Once you’ve played enough to learn the ropes, you’re instantly making interesting decisions on the first screen, and it’s perfect for picking up and putting down on a whim, while still having significant long session/score runs available.

### 5/5 — ganhar o jogo

*2020-10-18*

This game is great. There’s no English version, but given that the central concept of the game is that you have a bunch of wands and you have to figure out what they do, then this merely adds to that. In any case, Google Translate (Portuguese) will help speed up the learning-the-game phase. Once you know what most of the symbols mean then the game is a lot of fun with the random combinations of spell effects available. Then you can focus on the Jogos!

## Most praised reviews (2 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Cinco Estrelas

*2020-01-07*

The most beautiful, genius game on the App Store. Don’t get thrown by the Portuguese, the surreal art or the initial inscrutability - this is deep, mesmerising and beyond brilliant. If this world was a just one, the Chase Frog would be as iconic as a Space Invader and infamous as The Alien.

### 5/5 — Great game!

*2019-06-27*

Impossible to put down once you get going!
