### 2/5 — Very difficult to use

*2023-07-25, version 2.11.0*

Just got a library card after a hiatus of a few years and this new app is making me pull my hair out. Navigation is difficult, heck EVERYTHING to do in it is tedious and just not clear how to do what you need to do. Quite disappointed. I hope it gets updated soon but I know that’s hard to get done.

### 2/5 — Awkward

*2022-08-24, version 2.6.1*

This rewritten app is somehow much less easy to use than the old one. I would revert to the older design, and walk away from this. It will never be easy to use. Just not well-designed, unfortunately.

### 2/5 — Suddenly I can’t log in

*2021-09-26, version 2.6.1*

I don’t know what happened but suddenly I can’t login on the mobile app. It tells me that my username or password is invalid even though I am using the same exact credentials to login online. This doesn’t make any sense and I NEED the mobile app. Help please!

### 2/5 — The previous app was better

*2021-09-15, version 2.6.1*

I understand updating everything with the new design but didn’t bring over

Want to have your whole family’s cards on file like before for a quick to make sure nothings overdue or see who has holds ready to be picked up or quickly pull up your kid’s digital library card… not anymore.

Also an update where you get push notification for upcoming returns/ renewals, overdue and holds ready for pick up. I think that would be beneficial.

### 2/5 — Not intuitive.

*2021-09-14, version 2.6.1*

The old app was easier to navigate. This version seems to have been designed by someone who lacked familiarity with the library.

### 2/5 — Inferior to the app it replaced

*2021-08-17, version 2.6.1*

It will be hard to maintain the ”#1 Library” status with this app. The older app was simple, clear, and provided every function needed from a public library app. This app is none of those things.

### 2/5 — Functionality lacking

*2021-04-19, version 2.5*

The new app doesn’t give important details such as page numbers because the app is not compatible with iPhones. Go back to the old red and white app.

### 1/5 — Spins, lots of errors

*2021-03-30, version 2.5*

This app is awful

### 1/5 — New app

*2021-02-26, version 2.4*

Not an improvement. New logo does not show up as designed on app page. Font too large and childish looking. Slow with several circles before page appears. Site appearing length-wise instead of width-wise. Preferred old app.

### 2/5 — Bring back the old app

*2021-02-24, version 2.4*

I use the Library app frequently and have tried to get accustomed to the new app. I still am not comfortable with it. It feels awkward even after a couple of months. I especially dislike that it won’t rotate to landscape view.
Bring back the old app!

### 2/5 — Awful

*2021-02-23, version 2.4*

2 stars simply because it exists and you can still place a hold. In every other respect I really dislike this app. Bring back our loved functional previous app-the red one.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App down pretty consistently

*2025-12-31, version 2.21.0*

For presumably using public funding, the app developers seem to have no accountability. The apps been down for over a day. This happens consistently. No real way to contact a helpline. Really, really frustrating. Can’t use app and can’t read digital books. Frustrating.

### 1/5 — infuriating

*2024-09-15, version 2.15.0*

Used to be easy to search and put things on hold and now it just constantly logs me out and doesn’t let me log back in…

### 1/5 — Awful

*2023-07-12, version 2.11.0*

Doesn’t work half the time. Basically not support because your local library contacts aren’t able to trouble shoot. Big step back from previous app.

### 1/5 — App needs help

*2023-06-18, version 2.10.0*

This app is one of the most frustrating ones, it’ll crash upon opening, search won’t work, etc. it seems like every time I open it, something else doesn’t function.

I use Libby as a replacement but would love for this to be better

### 1/5 — Won’t load. Ever.

*2021-10-09, version 2.6.1*

No. It’s not your imagination or your wifi. This app is useless. Searches go on… and on… never to end. Just get on the website.

### 1/5 — What the heck!

*2021-08-11, version 2.6.1*

This app is ridiculous! Its made more for a cell phone than for a tablet. No option to change how it appears on screen - either too small or too large. What are you guys thinking?

### 1/5 — Can’t link all my families’ cards

*2021-06-23, version 2.6.1*

I want the old app back. It was so easy to use. Need to be able to link all cards to one account. I don’t care that you can review books just want to use the app like the card catalog, put books on hold, and be able to renew books. PLEASE FIX THIS APP. I’m not the only person requesting that you be able to link accounts. Please listen to your customers!

### 1/5 — Caution: Inappropriate content

*2021-06-15, version 2.5*

There are constantly inappropriate books and audiobooks suggested right at the top of the main screen. Not suitable for children or teens to use.

### 1/5 — literally did not let me log in

*2021-04-25, version 2.5*

changed my password and everything. it just won’t let me log in

### 1/5 — Old app better

*2021-04-14, version 2.5*

The old app worked better on my iPad than this. Music search is poor.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — brilliantly done

*2023-06-28, version 2.11.0*

very navigable, straightforward and intuitive design, and so easy to navigate. i love that the homepage displays the number of overdue, due, and ready-for-pickup books—a very convenient one-stop-shop! i would love if there was a dark mode (for those of us who browse at night), but an otherwise perfect app 😊

### 5/5 — Great app!!

*2021-06-09, version 2.5*

This app is so great and let’s you do all the things you’d want to do on your phone! You can create reading lists, place books on hold, and has a great search feature. You can see which books you have checked out and the due dates, your books on hold, and any fees. There’s also really great book lists by librarian. Such a great app for the library.

### 4/5 — App won’t open

*2025-12-06*

I’ve had this app for several months. My two main issues are it that it often won’t let me login. It says there’s an error and nothing I do fixes it. I usually have to wait several hours. The other issue is it constantly undoes my font size selection when reading a book. Basically, it changes the font size to a very small font that I cannot read. It’s an easy fix, but it happens daily.

### 4/5 — Push Notifications would be helpful

*2025-03-26, version 2.18.0*

Please add push notifications for upcoming book due dates.

### 3/5 — CHPL

*2023-11-01, version 2.12.0*

The worst acronym when trying to find this app on one’s phone. I can never remember what it’s called and searching “library” or “Cincinnati “ or “Hamilton” does you no good.

### 3/5 — Can’t have multiple users

*2023-03-01, version 2.9.1*

The app is nice but I don’t have the ability to add my kids accounts on the same app…are you expecting 7 year old kids to have their own phones and apps?

### 3/5 — Needs improvement

*2021-11-18, version 2.6.1*

I can appreciate that a library doesn’t have infinite resources. However, libraries still need to compete for attention. An effective app is part of getting that attention. The app is marginal. Her are some “standard” things that should be fixed/added to make the app exceptional. If these features are here I couldn’t find them.
1. Add the ability to use Face ID to unlock the app.
2. Related to number #1, the app loses credentials. I had my credentials not populate and their is no ability to “remember” at least the username. So, I have to go look up my library card number because who remembers that? Implement remembering your username at minimum. As mentioned in number 1 have the app unlock with Face ID.
3. No notifications when hold is ready? I had holds in transit that were ready and received no notification. Again this is standard in today’s apps.

Thank you.

### 3/5 — Can’t add other cards

*2020-12-25, version 2.4*

While the app is much improved in ease of use, navigation and the interface in general, it doesn’t not allow the basic option to add another card. This feature is very valuable when trying to monitor holds as return dates for kids and other family members, or to pickup the whole families holds.

### 2/5 — Crashes, slow

*2026-01-28, version 2.21.0*

This is a simple app and yet crashes all the time and is slow.

### 2/5 — Bugs

*2025-08-06, version 2.19.0*

This app is glitchy and has a lot of bugs. It won’t even keep me logged in, prompting me to login again every time I open the app. Sometimes even in the middle of using it I’ll be randomly logged out.
