## What is CineLoupe?

CineLoupe is a cinematographer's viewfinder that reproduces cinema camera sensor modes and lenses on your iPhone — including the bokeh.

BOKEH YOU CAN SEE
Using the iPhone's LiDAR (or stereo) depth, CineLoupe computes depth of field from the chosen focal length, T-stop and focus distance and blurs the live image accordingly. Tap to focus. Anamorphic lenses render with the correct squeeze and oval bokeh.

SENSOR MODES, NOT JUST CAMERAS
Crop by the actual imaging area of each recording mode — ALEXA 35 4.6K 3:2 Open Gate vs 4K 16:9, VENICE 2 8.6K 3:2 vs 5.8K 6:5 anamorphic — for ARRI, SONY, RED, Canon, Blackmagic, Nikon, DJI, FUJIFILM and more.

A LENS LIBRARY THAT MATCHES THE RENTAL FLOOR
165 series and 1,400+ lenses: ARRI Signature / Master / Ultra Prime, ZEISS Supreme, Cooke S4/S7/S8, Leitz, Angenieux Optimo, FUJINON Premista, Canon Sumire, SIGMA, DZOFILM, LAOWA, Tokina Vista and many more. Browse prime / zoom → mount → series → focal length, or type any focal length and T-stop manually.

FRAME LINES, AS MANY AS YOU NEED
Overlay 16:9, 2.39, 9:16 or any ratio and percentage on the open gate at once, with optional outside shading and burn-in.

TAKES THAT BECOME THE SCOUT REPORT
Stills (HEIC) and video (HEVC / H.264 / ProRes, 1080p / UHD, Apple Log) with camera, mode, lens, focal length, T-stop, focus distance, time, GPS, heading and scene/take burnt in. Mark OK takes and export a PDF with maps, shooting order, sun position and a location checklist. Optional auto-upload to your own Google Drive or Dropbox.

RE-SIMULATE LATER
Stills keep the raw frame and depth map, so you can revisit a take with a different camera, lens, T-stop or focus and save it as a new take.

SUN POSITION
Sun azimuth and elevation overlaid on the finder, scrubbable through the day, with sunrise, sunset and golden hour.

Requires iPhone 12 or later. LiDAR (Pro models) gives the best depth; the ultra-wide camera extends the wide end.

Simulations are optical approximations and do not reproduce distortion, vignetting, cat's-eye bokeh, breathing or color of real lenses. Camera and lens names are trademarks of their respective owners; CineLoupe is not affiliated with any manufacturer.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.2.1 — 2026-09-25

- Better battery life. The depth sensor is no longer run while bokeh is off, and location and compass updates were dropped to what the app actually needs.
- Settings → Film now explains what KOMA is and links to its site.
- Tap HOT in the HUD to turn off the features that cost the most, in one go.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-09-25

- KOMA film emulation in the finder: stock, look, grain and halation. You choose whether it is baked into recordings and stills, and .koma presets move between here and the KOMA plug-in.
- Tags and OK are now independent. Tag by location, filter the gallery by tag, and a tag's storyboard is the takes that carry it and are OK.
- The burn-in strip is always shown in the finder. The setting now only decides whether it goes into what you record.
- The finder's tools sit behind one button, with two favourites of your choosing kept outside it.
- The HUD and the lens bar stay readable against a sunlit exterior.

### 1.1 — 2026-09-22

- Sun: set the date and time of your shoot. The sun's position, sunrise, sunset and golden hour all follow it, and one tap returns to now.
- Stand-in figures are now lit by how high the sun is at that time.
- The AR view takes the same date and time.
- Fixed the sun overlay drifting from the camera image when the device was tilted.
