I don’t remember this mechanic in earlier versions but it takes away the fun of dominating Roman politics. ### 4/5 — Amazing *2023-09-07* Such an amazing idea and game!! We have a ton of freedom!! The only things that I would point out, Is I would like to form my own armies under my family’s name, do more interactions with my characters, like sleep with other demon have multiple wives, go to war against other family’s for power, throne struggles, addd some fun into it. ### 4/5 — Cool *2023-01-17* Great game: would be five stars, if it had a few more random events, and perhaps some lasting personal vendettas against other families. I like the new updates but unfortunately they have made things very buggy. You can hardly get through a full year now without your entire screen flashing white and resetting back to the last month. It’s not major but it is annoying enough that I just can’t play it like I used to anymore. ### 4/5 — the game is addicting, but can get repetitive *2022-02-23* I love playing this game, I think they could put some more scenarios into the game to change things up and put more lore in there and make it able to travel to different areas to do things. It’s very ugly. And as for gameplay, I maybe had some fun with my first family but that’s it. There’s literally nothing to do in the game but buy property, attend festivals, and hopefully not go broke. I’d save $10, it’s just not worth that kind of price. I played it last night and saved my most recent game, when k opened the app today all my saves were gone. The only save was the auto save from a few months ago **Developer response:** This has been fixed with the v1.5.2 release. Also, your old saves should still be there & will show up on the Saved Games menu now. There isn’t an option to manually save either. Everytine I boot up the game I start as a child again. Doesn’t matter how many generations pass, if I reboot the game I’m back to playing the child. Really need manual saving here guys. **Developer response:** This is now fixed as of v1.5.2, with a new save system, support for multiple and manual saves. Since some recent updates, I gave Citizen of Rome: Dynasty Ascendant another go and quite enjoyed it! With charming visuals and plenty of historical factoids, the simple gameplay is a relaxing activity for those who love Roman history. In fact, I think a “hard mode” might even be a valuable feature to add for those who seek more of a challenge. Now that the game is fun to play, I would like to see more choices and content open up late in the game to keep the game entertaining beyond the point of reaching consular office. I am eager to see what the developers have in store for future updates. ### 4/5 — Super addicting, but can be infuriating at times *2021-08-17* I love playing this game, it’s super addicting. The only thing that is infuriating is when you get conscripted, you’re either forced to sell unmanageable properties and then your wrath is stolen (sometimes net wealth is cut by as much as 75%), or your properties just die from mismanagement, so in any case you’re screwed if you’re conscripted. I think this is an infuriating mechanic. ### 4/5 — Game Gets Stuck *2021-07-25* I LOVE this game and have been playing for months now. It’s borderline addicting. However, recently the game’s been getting stuck at certain points, and any progress i make won’t be saved after i exit out. The only way to fix it is to reset everything. Like i said, i’ve been playing for months, and i never had this problem before, so i think it may just be a bug with the latest update. Everything else is golden! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — App crashes *2026-08-11, version 1.6.30* So i used to really enjoy this game but within the last year every time i try to age or have a marriage, the app crashes 😢. It sucks because before this happened it was a great game to play if you wanted to kill some time without getting involved in a storyline/plot. ### 1/5 — Horribly Unbalanced Pricy Garbage *2024-02-28* Wow what a fun and cool thing to be stuck in perpetual debt because it takes over 4 years to apprentice at the cheapest job with 20 adaptability/insight. What a fun and cool thing that none of the people you marry start with jobs, but cost twice as much as you do each month. What a fun and cool thing that you pay 10 real life dollars for an inescapable debt spiral because you have to pay hundreds in game just to do unskilled labor despite clearly being able to perform it just fine as a debt slave. The devs should wake up every day feeling horrible for who they are, honestly. **Developer response:** Really sorry for the diificult experience. If you're up for giving it another go, we would recommend either trying out the Easy/Sandbox modes with a new save, or better still, enabling mods via the button in the Settings screen and giving yourself a bit of extra cash when you most need it, to tide you over. It should get easier and more fun over time as you get used to the game's ebb and flow. And the upcoming release will rebalance things a bit in this area as well. An interesting idea, just needs a heckuva lot more polish. There’s way too many options to choose from at first—I’d have liked to unlock options like different land types more slowly. It’s nearly unplayable on an iPhone 10, the game itself is awkward to play, and switching between screens is difficult inside the app. Regret those five bucks wasted. The diversity of traits one can develop in the game is great too! My only complaint is that my game now won’t save whatever progress I make now, I’m stuck on the same person and year. The family trees could be a little bit more clear and the assignment of traits and new events need to be even across all possibilities. Despite this I still thoroughly enjoy the game, I just wish these issues were solved. It looks like the optimal investment when achieved with 2X+, but keeps coming out negative if you sell and invest in horses over other things. Anyways, really do love the game and all of the continued work! ### 5/5 — Fantastic little game about your own Roman Dynasty *2022-08-06* A few reviews have pointed out bugs, but these bugs have been fixed. There was a bug I experienced a while ago; which I complained about on the subreddit for this game, and the developer made sure to fix my issue by the next update. It does seem like the game has been abandoned now; but it is definitely in a complete state and you will find a great enjoyment from this if you are a big romanophile like myself. I haven't run into a bug during my last play through. I eventually became consul after a lot of trial and error :) ### 5/5 — The lost sister lives! *2021-12-27* My very first character had a son and a daughter. Even though the son was my heir, I favored his sister. I even educated her instead of her brother. Unfortunately when my first character died in battle, the heir took over and the sister disappeared from my family view, I couldn’t find her and got very sad. She had just started her apprenticeship! I considered quitting the game but I was having fun so I didn’t. Two generations later, I finally played around and checked my first character’s family tree and there she was! She was long dead but in her long life she managed to get married, find a good job and had living two sons with their own families. I was really happy because I thought she had just disappeared into the void. If you enjoy character building you’ll like this game but be careful because if you’re anything like me you might get really attached. ### 5/5 — Maybe *2021-08-16, version 1.4.7* Maybe put girls as the main character/playable character? ### 5/5 — Perfect Game for busy people *2021-07-11* I really enjoyed this game and was able to come back to it whenever. CK2 fans will also enjoy the dynasty aspect of this fun, entertaining game. Great for keeping you busy and also very informative on the inner workings of the everyday Roman citizen. Some suggestions for the developer *2020-11-27* So, to get ahead in this game you have to be kinda the worst human on the planet. 1) The market is where you’ll make all your money. Never miss a chance to go. 2) Don’t bother educating your girls. (This is where the worst human starts...) it’s a waste of money because you’re just going to marry them off. 3) The fact that there’s no family planning means a lot of this game is RNG. You’re gonna find yourself hoping you don’t have boys, and if you get too many you’ll be hoping they die. Because when you die, your assets are split evenly against the heirs. (When the other family line dies out, you do get an inheritance which can help!) 4) I still haven’t managed to get to the last level of education. It’s just far too expensive for anyone to really get to by play style. You have to have luck and RNG into a bunch of good market opportunities and have few heirs. I think it would be more fun if you could either kill your kids or give them up for adoption, or the RNG on the market made it a little easier to get to the senator part of the game. It’s just too expensive to do any other way. I’ve wasted about 20 hours on this game and haven’t gotten bored which is cool.
