### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2026-03-06*

Tried to use it to route me somewhere and it kept saying “the data couldn’t be read because it isn’t in the correct format.” It did this no matter what address I entered

### 4/5 — When it works it’s helpful

*2022-09-29, version 2.3.1*

But I think the App has stopped working. I no longer get alerts & the App support website is Not loading. People have stopped leaving reviews too 🫠

### 5/5 — Consistently reliable

*2019-04-12, version 2.0.3*

This is my go-to air quality app, even on days I’m not in London. I have several air quality measurement devices (Plume Labs’ Flow, LifeBasis DM106A, HoldPeak HP-5800D) and I often see if these correlate with various online services (CityAir app, Defra UK Air website, AQICN.org, Plume app and general weather forecasts).

Over the years I’ve found the most reliable general indicator of poor air quality is the CityAir app combined with general weather forecasts. If CityAir is red and there are slow easterly winds then best avoid cycling in London! (For more localised information I’d recommend the Plume Labs’ Flow device though it can be a bit hit and miss).

I particularly like the concise, scientific explanations which help explain unusual observations, e.g. why good air quality despite an easterly wind? CityAir explains the current air mass travelled at higher altitudes over mainland Europe so didn’t pick up as much pollution as it would lower down.

Really great service, thanks very much from a mild asthma sufferer in London. I wish mainstream weather forecasts would use your excellent daily summaries.

### 1/5 — Great idea BUT....

*2019-03-12, version 2.0.3*

It doesn't work! It does not allow me to access a user group or plan a route which makes it useless.

### 2/5 — Not reliable for high pollution conditions

*2018-01-09, version 2.0.3*

Have noticed running to and from work some days that I can tell it’s a high pollution day (can taste the fumes even away from the road, cigarette smoke collecting in patches of air even when there’s no smoker there, I’m finding it harder to breath for the same pace and have sore eyes when I get home. Checked my other pollution app Plume and it says there are high pollution levels whereas City Air says its low!

### 2/5 — Nice idea - but it doesn't work

*2017-04-28, version 2.0.1*

I really like the idea of this app, but sadly the rout function is not working. Every time I try to plan a route I get the same message: "the route could not be calculated because the data is in the incorrect format". I have tried addresses, post codes... what format do you want!

### 1/5 — Colour coding reversed?

*2015-06-27, version 1.1*

This app seems to have its colour coding reversed. In the centre of London the colour coding suggests lower pollution than in (leafy parts of) the suburbs. Confusing.

### 1/5 — Good idea but route function needs fix

*2015-06-18, version 1.1*

Also can't get the route planner to work. Would welcome an update that either explains how it's meant to work or a fix if it's broken.

### 1/5 — Doesn't seem to do what it claims to be able to do

*2015-04-09, version 1.1*

This just appears to be a map of London with a window explaining why there is high and moderate air pollution tomorrow. I tried the route planner but this doesn't work. It doesn't give you information on specific areas of London and which streets we better or worse.

Maybe I missed something?

### 5/5 — Simple. Clever. Useful.

*2014-07-19, version 1.0.1*

Useful info for those of us who want to live and work in London and to breathe ok. And in its way a campaign tool for better air quality. Thanks Corporation and Kings College.
