## What is Civil War?

After Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina, fell to the Union, in early 1865, Jefferson Davis belatedly handed over the supreme command or the army to General Lee. This could not stop the Union armies pressing on through North Carolina, capturing Fayetteville, Bentonville, Goldsboro and Raleigh by mid-April.

Exhausted by the Union siege of Petersburg and Richmond, Lee's forces made a last attempt at resistance, attacking and capturing Fort Stedman on March 25. A rapid counterattack reversed the victory, however, and on the night of April 2nd the Confederate army finally evacuated Richmond. For most of the next week, the Union army pursued the Confederates along the Appomattox River, exhausting any chance of escape. Grant accepted Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9th. Sherman accepted Johnston's surrender at Durham Station, North Carolina on April 26th, finally ending the American Civil War, and to slavery in the United States of America.

### 3/5 — Aggravating

*2025-08-18*

Love the hexwar games, but this particular one is faulty. It doesn’t seem to matter the side you pick, the computer rolls through, while 4/5 of your attacks in the computer register as misses. This is the first one that I’ve ran into this problem on. I’ve played 1861-1864 with no problem.

### 1/5 — A Southerner

*2020-09-09*

STOP taking away the Southern Cross Confederate Battle flag from your games especially this late in the war. Every new update that is put out diminishes the value and/or the historical meaning of the game. States Rights and are second war of independence! Not what the media and the new history books say, my ancestors and more than 90% of the other southerners didn’t fight to maintain slavery. While the Union maintained slavery up north until way later after the war under the American flag........... The last update that I got for 1864 will not even open, the main screen comes on and then it blows up that it just shows the top left corner of it. Like it is on an iPad. Do Not Update this game!!!!

### 1/5 — 1865

*2020-03-27*

I’ve been playing these wonderful Civil War scenarios for many years and have purchased more than a dozen. I think there is a problem with Bentonville and I see that others have mentioned problems they were having 2-3 years ago. It has not been addressed in all that time. That is not a good sign.

### 2/5 — Not horrible

*2019-07-01*

My biggest problem is #1 the grammatical errors in the text of the game. This is just sloppy effort by the developers and shows lack of care. #2 the inaccurate maps/battlefields which is a tad more forgiving than the ridiculous basic misspellings!

### 1/5 — Benton vile is broken

*2018-04-17*

It's actually bentonville that's impossible. Too many generals and too little troops. Even on easy mode it's so far impossible. I've tried about 20 approaches and all have failed. I've gotten thru every other battle in all the other years but this one. Help!!

### 1/5 — Civil war 1865

*2018-02-26*

This game is garbage impossible situations that never happened can not win on this game no instructions on how to win and some battles never really happened.

### 4/5 — Good game

*2018-01-22*

If you like the others you will like this one

### 4/5 — Simple yet addictive

*2017-05-28*

Good game overall. This version has missions that are more difficult than the previous versions.

### 5/5 — As good as the others

*2017-05-17*

Not so great on my iPhone, but really good on my iPad. I'd like you guys to create a hex-based wargame with NATO military-type icons where you can adjust the combat values and lots of different maps. A guy named Cozart had a PC game called Board Warfare a while back that was pretty fun. How 'bout it? Or, how about a modern or near-future game less sci-fi than your mech game?

### 5/5 — Paluck

*2017-03-09*

This is one of the best strategy games of American civil war ever created by Hexcow. I really enjoyed it and love it.
