## What is Clag?

Clag is the classic British trick-taking card game - quick to learn, fiendishly hard to master.

You might know it as Oh Hell, Nomination Whist, Contract Whist, Blackout, or Up and Down the River.

Every game runs 17 deals. The hand size climbs from 1 card up to 7, passes through three brutal special rounds, then drops all the way back to 1. Before each deal you bid exactly how many tricks you think you'll take. Nail your bid precisely and bank a 10-point bonus - miss it by even one trick and you score nothing for the round. Play it safe, or gamble everything on the perfect call?

New to the game? An interactive tutorial deals you a guided hand, with the dealer talking you through every bid and every card.

PLAY YOUR WAY
- Single player against smart bots, with four difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, Hard and Pro
- Daily Challenge - one deal a day, the same for everyone, with a leaderboard and a streak to defend
- Puzzles - 500 single-deal challenges to solve at your own pace
- Casual tables for 3 to 7 players - set the seats, the bots and the house rules, then share a link or join instantly with a code
- Ranked tables - browse open tables, take on strangers and earn an Elo rating that follows your Game Center identity
- Friends - add anyone you meet, see who's about, and invite them straight to your table
- Fast, clean and built for one hand or a whole evening

A NEW SEASON EVERY MONTH
- Ten fresh challenges, drawn from everything you play: dailies, solo wins, misere shutouts, house rules, crowded tables
- Three completed earns the season's title, six the second reward, all ten the showpiece
- Season rewards are earned in their month and kept forever - they never turn up on the reward track later
- Every season has its own set: a title, a second reward and a showpiece to finish

EVERY HAND REMEMBERED
- Your last fifty games are kept, with the final standings and the whole deal-by-deal scorecard
- Watch any solo or daily game back - let it play card by card, step through it trick by trick, and peek at what anyone was holding

FIVE HUNDRED PUZZLES
- You're dealt a fixed hand and handed a bid you must hit exactly - all that's left is finding the line that gets you there
- Fifty sets across thirteen chapters: trump control, no trumps, misere, short hands, crowded tables, and finals that will test anyone
- Every puzzle has been verified solvable, and the cards never change - retry as often as you like, it's you against the deal
- Your progress follows you across your devices

THE REWARDS CLIMB
- Earn XP for every game you finish - solo, daily and online
- 50 levels of unlocks: card backs, table themes, seat rings, titles, celebrations, emote packs, profile frames, app icons and a golden grand prize
- Your Table: preview your whole look live and equip anything you've unlocked

THREE SPECIAL ROUNDS
- No Trumps - no suit to bail you out
- Blind Bidding - call your bid before you've even seen your hand
- Misere - win as few tricks as possible

LEADERBOARDS
- One global board for your best single game - iPhone and Android players climb the same list
- A board for every Daily Challenge, kept day after day - page back and see who took each deal
- Tap any name for their card: their felt and card back, their ring, level, rating, achievements - and Add Friend
- Every score verified before it lands

GAME CENTER
- Unlock 16 achievements
- Your level, look, rating and achievements follow you across all your devices

Free to play, and every reward can be earned at the table. Two optional one-time purchases if you'd like to support the game: "Remove Ads" clears the between-game ads for good, and "Unlock All Rewards" opens the whole climb instantly.

Gather the players, make your call, and don't get clagged.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6.2 — 2026-08-24

ACCESSIBILITY

Two new settings to make the cards easier to read:

- A four-colour deck gives every suit its own colour: diamonds turn blue and clubs turn green, while hearts and spades stay as they were. No suit you already read changes meaning - only the two that used to share a colour move apart.
- Larger numbers grows the rank in the corner of every card.

Both are off by default, both live in Settings under Gameplay, and either works on its own.

ALSO IN THIS UPDATE

- September brings a new season: the title "The Jester", the Court velvet profile frame, and The Court card back
- Minor fixes and improvements across the table, the lobby and the puzzle screens

### 1.6.1 — 2026-08-21

A round of small fixes across the table and the lobby

### 1.6 — 2026-08-17

SEASONS

Every month now brings a season: ten fresh challenges drawn frommeverything you play, and three rewards to take off the table. Complete three for the season's title, six for the second piece, all ten for the showpiece. Season rewards are only ever earned in their own month, and they never turn up on the XP track later - what you earn is yours and stays yours. Season 1 is Seaside: the title "The Seaside", the Deckchair stripes seat ring, and the Seafront card back.

MATCH HISTORY AND REPLAYS

Your last fifty games are kept now - the final standings and the whole deal-by-deal scorecard, for every one of them. Any solo or daily game can be watched back as well: let it play card by card, step through it trick by trick or deal by deal, peek at what anyone was holding, and look over the deal as it was dealt.

FRIENDS

Tap the card of anyone signed in to Game Center - at the table or on a leaderboard - and Add Friend is there. Once they accept, you can see who is about: online, in a lobby, or in a game. Invite them straight to your table from the list, and let Clag tell you when a request or an invite arrives. If you would rather not be asked at all, Allow Friend Requests is a switch in Settings.

ALSO IN THIS UPDATE

- Casual tables, your rules: pick the seats, the bots and the house rules when you make the table, and change your mind again in the lobby
- Casual games no longer move your rating - only the ranked room does
- House-rule games now earn achievements, XP and a replay, and stay off the leaderboard as before
- Profile is one place for all of it now: your card, your rewards, your look, your stats, your match history and the leaderboards
- The daily's short deals - three cards, then two, then one - are screened so the bid you're handed can always be made exactly

### 1.5.3 — 2026-08-08

PLAYER CARDS

Tap a name at the table or on a leaderboard and their card now shows off
their whole look: it draws on their equipped felt, with their card back
fanned in the corner. Ring, level, rating and achievements as before -
now on their table instead of yours.

FAIRER PUZZLES

Fifty-seven puzzles across the first twelve sets played meaner than they
should: needle-in-a-haystack winning lines, or openings where your first
card was forced. Each one has been re-dealt - never harder than the deal
it replaces, and your solved puzzles stay solved.

ALSO IN THIS UPDATE

- Pull down to refresh any leaderboard
- On smaller iPhones, a seven-card hand no longer hides behind the side
  players' avatars

### 1.5.2 — 2026-08-03

THE FEEL OF THE TABLE

Every card now moves like a real one: deals riffle off the deck, your
plays fly from your hand, and won tricks sweep into a pile beside the
winner's seat. There's a full set of haptics to match, so a deal, a
committed bid and a big win land in your hand as well as on screen.

PUZZLE HINTS

Stuck on a puzzle? After three failed attempts you can watch a short ad
to reveal the next move of a winning line - one decision at a time, as
many as you need. A hinted puzzle forfeits its XP, so a clean solve
still means something.

ALSO IN THIS UPDATE

- Puzzle difficulty rebalanced: puzzles that played harder than their
rating suggested have been corrected or replaced
- Fast card speed is a touch calmer, so the new motion reads at pace
- Retrying a puzzle now deals the whole hand in again, as it should
- What's new now appears in the app after each update, so you won't
need this page to find out
