It’s been inspiring to watch actors win and give their testimonials and get discovered for roles other than for what they’ve auditioned. There are legitimate producers on the site and it’s great being able to hear exactly what they’re looking for during a call. It makes you feel like there’s a real shot vs what you normally have to do. And getting several claps on all of my posts and great feedback but out of knowhere everything is gone off of my page! It all just disappeared! Is there any way to recover and bring my page back to life??? ### 4/5 — Love the concept! App is a little buggy. *2018-11-16, version 1.9.2* I absolutely LOVE this app and the concept of it all! Myself being an aspiring actor and the chance at landing actual speaking roles in feature films is awesome! I’ve got three young kids so not in a position to afford acting classes right now so I love having this opportunity at my fingertips! Simply watching for upcoming casting calls then uploading your audition is a breeze and a LOT OF FUN! If anything, it’s great practice and the thought of knowing your work is being seen by actual filmmakers is wonderful. Now for a few downsides. This app is still buggy. Random crashes requiring you to hard restart often can be a pain. I once logged out thinking that would fix things once I logged back in, then couldn’t log back in with my email and password for almost a week! Tech support was pretty responsive though and I was able to work it out. I’ve since been trying to help by letting them know all bugs found. Feels like it’s still in beta. Also, about the only way to stay on top with claps is to troll other peoples auditions asking them to vote back. I don’t really like asking for people to vote me back, it is a competition after correct? I’ve shared with friends and family and have received claps that way but again, if you’re not clapping then getting a clap back then you will stay towards the middle/bottom of the ranks. I would like to see that change a bit and make it more organic. You would think they wouldn’t allow us to clap each other in the first place so that we would be encouraged to spread the word equaling to more downloads for them and this app continue to gain popularity by word of mouth. Other than that, I love it! I’ll continue to use it and support others in the Clapit community, it’s really fun if you’ve ever thought of getting into acting but don’t have the means to do so. I’d also like to see support across all platforms and not just iOS. I have many friends with Android that day they’d love to clap my audition but simply cannot. Once this app smooths out a bit more I will revisit this review and update my rating. Almost every time I want to post something I have to remove the app from my phone and download it again and log in. When I go to my profile I can’t see my videos or my notifications hence the reason why I have to remove and reload the app again. This application is a great idea but I needs some work. ### 4/5 — Great opportunity/popularity contest *2018-10-22, version 1.8.8* I love this app because it gives people like me(who don’t get film opportunities where I live) a chance to be heard and casted on professional film. My only drawback is that it is run like a popularity contest rather than on your talent. You have to get people to give you claps and then only the people with the top five get seen by the directors. So you may not be the most talented, but if you got a bunch of friends, family and time to try to get others to vote for you then you have a good chance of winning a role. ### 2/5 — Crashes *2018-09-18, version 1.8.5* I love the concept of this app but it always crashes. It will also randomly stop loading things and I’ll have to delete and redownload it. Hope they get these issues fixed soon. ### 3/5 — Nice concept, but needs work! *2018-09-03, version 1.8.2* I like the concept I think it’s fun and entertaining. I also think it’s great practice for us actors to submit self tape auditions. I personally do it for the practice primarily and I am having fun with it! The app itself should be available on every smartphone, not just the iPhone. Sign up is difficult if you do not have fb. It is hard to search for someone as it’s not defined and you just have to figure it out. I think the feed is messy and it there’s no rhyme or reason to the posts and the order in which they can be viewed. On another note, I think the app is a bit unfair as people are clapping for each other just to get more claps. I do not think this is helping anyone to become better at auditions or acting. People are saying great to others just to so they will clap their post. So while it’s a great community for support etc. I think there needs to be more direction. Where is the real feedback? I think there needs direction on the proper way to self tape. I think that encouraging people to clap for poor auditions just to get more claps for themselves does not make sense to me. I think this is a disservice for the actors or aspiring actors that do not have the money to pay for training. There has to be a better way to truly get the top performers to the top. Also, are all auditions open to any race and age? Can these characters be portrayed by anyone? If it’s open to any and all and that’s truly what it is then that’s great. I would love real feedback on auditions, would love a better way for votes to be legit rather than by a popularity contest, and software needs some upgrades. ### 5/5 — Great app!! *2018-08-30, version 1.8.2* The Clapit app really does put your audition in front of producers and directors. This is a great opportunity for any actor ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — FLSA lawsuits, pay-for-exposure, read all reviews *2019-12-13, version 2.0.7* The App Store says there are 15 reviews. This is definitely not true, and they are definitely not weighted the way it appears. Read on: First: Clap Online has been sued twice under the Fair Labor Standard act (including this year). (Just search for Clap Online Inc) on Justia. For a company that claims to make auditioning easier for everyone, that’s a little concerning. Second: you’ll do better with more cash. You can pay for more exposure. Again, not a level playing field. Third: there appears (for my own sake, let’s say alleged, maybe, etc), to be an entire element of patent trolling in their business model. In other words, let’s file patents with the intent of getting much more established companies to pay us for it. Fourth: crowdsourcing is cool, but for auditions? As someone with no dog in this fight, but who is related to filmmakers, this is ludicrous. Individual directors have nuanced thoughts about characters, and “clapping” auditions to exposure makes little sense. Plus, you know, you can just get your friends to vote you up. Is this about talent or popularity? Fifth: there is nothing cutting edge about this. It’s been done dozens of times. The CEO seems sketchy. Finally: in 2017, ClapIt held an audition for its own purposes. Guess what they paid you with? Exposure. You were supposed to be grateful for the trip to the shoot... and I guess buy groceries with exposure? No. This is exactly what creative communities are fighting. ### 1/5 — ????? *2019-11-29, version 2.0.7* Okay, I signed up (with Facebook), but it won’t let me log in. I entered my login and it made me do it again, and then it just buffered. ### 1/5 — Don’t use this app! They keep casting the same guy because he harasses the filmmakers! *2019-04-03, version 1.9.19* I can’t stress how rigged and unfair this competition is. One person has won for the male roles 8 times! You’d think there’d be some kind of limit in place to make it more appealing! And to make it to the top 5 all you need to do is harass your peers, friends and families, or just create fake accounts and clap your way to victory! Do yourself a favor and go with Screenbot if you have to. At least the top five are picked by people who know what they’re doing. Instead of spending hours a day for two weeks begging people to “clap” your audition, so something to better your own acting career. He lived in a small town and loved acting, yet didn’t have access to auditions. Clapit has changed all that. After he won ( by simply submitting a video of himself) he was then flown out to California and put up in a hotel while he was given a speaking role in a feature movie! Clapit paid for everything! Since then he has gotten an agent and has scored 2 more roles! Would not have happened if not for clapit... ### 5/5 — A Review After Many Claps *2019-06-17, version 2.0.5* When I first started using the Clapit app last year, I was weary. The idea of getting enough votes to get into the top 5 and be seen by famous directors was a questionable concept. However, with my experience, I’ve acted in one film where I was in a scene opposite Tony Sirico, and have another film planned later in the year which features Kurt Russel, and this is thanks to the Clapit team and their program. So, in turn, yes this is a crowd sourcing platform made for actors to gain a small speaking role in feature films, but with the opportunities that open to you with this, why not give it a shot? ### 5/5 — Get discovered!! Just answer an open call with a 20 second improvised audition addressing the character brief and upload it onto the app. Then have friends, family and the clapit community clap/vote on your submission. Pretty simple and who knows where it’ll take you. I’ve been flown to LA and New York, where to next. This new improved app simplifies the audition and casting process in the comfort of your own environment. I have been cast in 2 movies since November 2018. It not only provides a platform to hone your acting and have the opportunity to be cast in a speaking role for some amazing feature films. The NEW Clapit update is very user friendly, you post under the casting call for the correct audition, also there are supportive actors on the app that support each other as well. Each open call has 5 female and 5 male finalists. The auditions are sent to film makers, and someone is chosen for the role that was cast.
