German Whist, also known as Hamburg Whist, is based on classic Whist but designed for two players. Each round has a distinctive two-phase structure: first you build your hand by playing tricks and drawing from the deck, then you play out the final hands in a tense endgame.

How the game works:
German Whist is played in two phases. In the first phase, each trick decides who wins the face-up card from the deck. In the second phase, both players use their final hands to win as many tricks as possible.
Players must follow suit if they can. If they cannot follow suit, they may play any card, including a trump card.
Scoring depends on your chosen mode. In Last 13 scoring, only the endgame tricks count. In Every Trick scoring, the whole round matters.

The app is perfect. The game of German Whist is unique, in that each hand is like two different games. It takes some work to get the hang of it, but I have gotten quite a bit better as I stuck with it.

I have enjoyed playing this game while learning how to play better.  I played easy for a while, but got tired of winning every hand.  However, when I switched to hard, I still win about 80% of the time.  Maybe some work could be done on the computer’s skill level! Otherwise, a good game!

I really want to like this game, but it’s a disappointment. The easy level is far too easy, and I win every game.  The hard level is impossible to win. Can there not be a middle ground?? It’s a great game if you like to win every time on the easy level! I did enjoy the game at first, so I gave it 2 stars. Don’t get this unless you want to be frustrated!

The game play is well done. 

The thing I appreciate most is the ad preference. You can either choose to have a banner or one add every 15mins. I cannot express how nice it is to not be bombarded with advertisement so I can actually enjoy the game and app to its fullest!!

Just got the game and very impressed with graphics and presentation. As a 75 year old I enjoy good Tablet games and this is ideal for the IPad. Exercises the brain cells very well with a good combination of skill and luck.Will be playing it on a regular basis. Well done.

This game does not resemble German whist in any way, the closest card game to this, is Durak ( a Russian card game) or Trumps. The design of this game is also very basic with very little animations. Very disappointed.
