### 4/5 — Movement

*2026-02-17, version 6.7*

Great work on this! I’m quite stunned to see this game available on iOS. What would make this perfect is if we could adjust the movement acceleration. Your character moves too fast. Controls for walking also feel like you’re swimming because of this. If there was a way to slow movement down (maybe with a slider control), it would make so much easier to manage your character using touch controls. Now, all we need is Apotheosis X! I know it’s a non-official title but I considered it to be the best overhaul for AlephOne. It would make it an awesome addition to iOS gaming.

### 4/5 — Commendable, with some drawbacks.

*2025-09-05, version 6.6*

Bringing forward such a classic game will naturally have challenges, and this developer has done an admirable job with a substantial legacy. To cross-platform the game into a touch-screen interface, too, requires finesse and a sense of style that the author has achieved admirably.

As with any app, however, there are two modes of thought in the developer community regarding audio. This game doesn’t give players the annoying choice between the developer’s sounds or Total. Silence., but neither does it let user-driven audio be the dominant/only noise. There is no volume control in game at all.

Apart from that, this remains the paragon of early fps games, faithfully made playable in the modern world. Neither DOOM, nor Quake, this was the bridge between 2-D and 3-D engines that paved the way for COD, CS, UT, and most directly Halo.

I’m so glad this got made. :-)

### 4/5 — A fun mobile port with some issues

*2025-02-12, version 6.4*

After extensive play I can say I really like this. It’s fun. Except… that dumb option where releasing from the movement control or really just using the movement control activates terminals or interacts with the environment. EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE THAT OPTION DISABLED! On top of that I hate the auto-fire and wish for there to be an option to turn that off too. It’s weird when you start firing, but it’s not you and suddenly you have less ammo than when you started. Also, added customization for buttons would be nice because the trigger buttons are annoying to use with how small they are. When you’re just trying to fire bullets from the assault rifle sometimes it’s real easy to slip into the middle and grenade yourself. One more thing to mention, sometimes after start up when entering a mission everything is plastered in a green or turquoise tint. I know it’s a port, so despite all of that, it’s still a really good game I recommend playing.

### 3/5 — No Online Joining

*2024-12-11, version 6.4*

I keep trying to join an online game and I get 5 bots and I can’t even start the game.

### 5/5 — Love the trilogy

*2024-11-04, version 5.10*

Have loved this series since its release on the Macintosh back in the ‘90s. Glad it has been ported to mobile.

### 4/5 — Very fun game, pretty good port

*2024-11-01, version 5.10*

I’ve never played marathon before I downloaded it for mobile but I gotta say, it’s really fun! Obviously some of the mechanics are janky but that’s because marathon was the first game of its kind to do a lot of things. The port for mobile is pretty good, a little janky but good nonetheless. I would highly recommend it to any doom/halo fan, but even if you just want some fun 1990s FPS action, marathon is the game for you.

### 5/5 — Gyro controls?

*2024-10-03, version 5.10*

I cant turn off gyro controls. It’s totally a missing option in control preference, says its optional in the controls description... I’m confused.

Ohhh finally found it, realized you can scroll down further in preferences. Also IMO one should definitely turn off (lift movement button to activate). I was constantly activating terminals in the middle of a firefight or unintentionally. I assume this helps with certain sections involving timed doors/puzzles but ya Im keeping this toggled off. There are some more options for controls in the ios settings under the app itself, tailor to your liking... now all I wonder is what does the Master Chief toggle do? Guess I’ll find out, I can’t keep that one unchecked.

### 3/5 — Crashes on ipad.

*2024-09-30, version 5.10*

Depending on what you are doing in the game the app crashes. Not all the time but enough to mention.

### 5/5 — Stellar port

*2024-07-02, version 5.10*

Preserves the action, puzzles, and horror, and a fantastic port of an already great game, one question: since this is made with the aleph one port, would you ever consider to make a pathways into darkness port? Or marathon red? Or, since you’ve got the port, and the only difference is the ROM, a software for people to make ports? Thank you.

### 5/5 — Marathon forever

*2024-06-02, version 5.10*

I love the old school Marathon games!

### 4/5 — Accessibility

*2024-06-01, version 5.10*

Just needs invert camera controls for the controllers supported

### 5/5 — DOOM but better

*2024-05-10, version 5.10*

It’s just fun. Gave my brother PTSD of switches.

### 4/5 — Love the game just wish they had an option for inverting y axis

*2024-04-02, version 5.10*

Pretty much just the title, I play a bunch of FPS games and don’t want to lose my 20+ years of muscle memory so I haven’t delved too deep into this, but I’d like to.

### 5/5 — Thank you, Dustin | Q: game controller?

*2024-03-31, version 5.10*

These 3 games (Marathon, Durandal, and Infinity) were so central to my childhood in the mid 90s. My friends and I would bring our PowerMacs (6100, 6400, 5500) in one place using wheelbarrows, because they were so big, link them with AppleTalk cables, and play for hours together. I looked at emulators and was about to spend time refurbishing my 1997 PowerMac 6400 to play these games. Dustin brought them in enhanced form to iOS. Thank you.

One thing: touchscreen controls are hard. Is there an off the shelf game controller that works with this game?

### 5/5 — Playing since the start

*2024-02-27, version 5.10*

Played this and it’s sequels since they came out on 68k classic Mac’s in the mid nineties, along with a few of the several fan made scenarios later on, of which Rubicon and Eternal come highly recommended.

Only gripe I have for iOS version would be the controls, but I’m not going to pin that on the dev. Nature of the device. Other than that, great work on bringing a hidden gem, groundbreaking game, and the 64th best game ever (according to Computer Gaming World) to the iPhone and iPad.

May the best sentience win.

### 4/5 — Marathon, pretty fun, but personally halo better

*2024-02-25, version 5.10*

As a very big fan of Halo and playing older bunge games for the first time playing Marathon is being pretty interesting the game please pretty good to me. There’s kinda atmosphere horror which surprised me in a good way, I like Marathon so far I haven’t completed it yet but I like it so far so I’m gonna give it four just now but as a fan of Halo pretty good

### 4/5 — Please add high fps options <3

*2023-11-27, version 5.10*

I love this port, however, using one of the new Apple phones, I can see that the game doesn’t natively use the high refresh rate of the screen. Please I had an option for this, thank you!

### 5/5 — somewhere in the heavens.... they are waiting

*2023-11-07, version 5.10*

### 1/5 — Can we customize the violence?

*2023-10-02, version 5.10*

As an avid gamer and enthusiast, I recently had the opportunity to dive into the world of "Marathon." This first-person shooter by Bungie undoubtedly boasts thrilling gameplay and immersive graphics. However, I believe it's essential to discuss a certain aspect of the game's content that left me with mixed feelings.

"Marathon" undoubtedly offers an engaging, action-packed experience. Yet, I couldn't help but notice the presence of mild but noticeable blood in various scenes throughout the game. Whether it's the result of combat encounters or environmental elements, the graphical depiction of blood is a recurring theme.

My concerns primarily revolve around the potential impact of such content on a wide range of players. While I understand that many gamers enjoy intense, action-packed experiences, it's equally vital to consider those who may have sensitivities or preferences for a less graphic experience. Exposure to such content, especially for younger audiences, can be a cause for concern.

In light of these concerns, I would like to propose a thoughtful addition to the game. I believe it would greatly benefit "Marathon" if the developers considered including a "Disable Blood" option in the settings menu. This option would allow players to tailor their gaming experience to their comfort level, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the game to its fullest while accommodating diverse preferences.

I don't want my concerns to overshadow the many positive aspects of "Marathon." The gameplay mechanics are solid, the graphics aren’t impressive (but they’re good enough), and the storytelling is engaging. By addressing the blood content concern, I believe the game could be made even more accessible and enjoyable to a broader audience.

In conclusion, "Marathon" is undoubtedly a thrilling gaming experience. My aim in writing this review is not to detract from its many strengths but to encourage the developers at Bungie to consider the addition of a "Disable Blood" option. This simple change could make the game even more inclusive and accommodating to a diverse player base. I hope this feedback is taken into account for the benefit of all players.

For those who share my concerns or wish to voice their opinions, I encourage you to reach out to the developers directly through their official channels or forums. Together, we can contribute to a gaming experience that respects a wide range of preferences and sensitivities.

### 1/5 — Crashes.....

Crashes after the Aleph one title card.

### 1/5 — Worst

*2015-08-20, version 2.10*

Can't even open the app, constant crashes, doesn't work at all

### 1/5 — Will not work - Entire Marathon Trilogy

*2015-07-02, version 2.10*

Let me start off by saying that I love these games. These ports were also top-notch when they came out a few years ago. However, they will not work on the newest version of iOS. If the developer is still supporting this game, could we get a fix or update that will allow us to play these games on our newer devices?

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2015-05-15, version 2.10*

Doesn't work on my iPad mini 2

### 1/5 — Broken game is broken

*2015-03-29, version 2.10*

Was really looking forward to playing this, but no joy. Can't even get to the gameplay without it crashing.

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2015-02-16, version 2.10*

I was hoping to get this game to play on my iPad, but it was way too buggy; I couldn't even load up any of the first levels even for Durandal and Infinity, and even after I closed up my other programs. This needs to change soon if I'm going to be playing this.

### 1/5 — Update Please!?!?!?!

*2015-02-05, version 2.10*

Please update the game please!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

### 5/5 — Unbelievable

*2025-05-04, version 6.4*

First of all, thank you. Thank you for reviving the game I spent countless hours on my Mac LC630.

All the fun is back and as a bonus, I am now able to play with max graphics (Wich was possible on LC mac, but higher resolution mean unacceptable performance) and 100% compatible with controller (I am using XBOX one controllers).

Thanks again and continue your escellent work!
