## What is ClimbOn Hiking Map & GPS?

ClimbOn is a hiking app that allows users to create hiking plans and record their activities on the day of the hike within a single application. Users can create planned routes by long-pressing on the map to add route points. Elevation profiles can be viewed based on the altitude of each point, and saved routes can later be edited again. The app also supports importing GPX files.

During hikes, ClimbOn records movement tracks based on the user’s current location and allows them to save the recorded data as GPX files after completion. When a saved route is loaded, users can view the route on the map, check elevation graphs, see the distance and direction to the next point, and monitor deviations from the planned route. The app also provides hiking-oriented settings such as recording intervals, automatic pause, background recording, and map cache management.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.3 — 2026-08-17

• The mountain button now fetches nearby mountain-related candidates and reference trail lines around the map center.
• Mountain-related candidates are fetched from OSM using natural=peak, highway=trailhead, trailhead=yes, tourism=alpine_hut, amenity=shelter, and amenity=parking.
• Reference trail lines are fetched from OSM using highway=path / footway / track.
• Reference trails exclude ways tagged with access=no/private, foot=no/private, or area=yes.
• Mountain candidates now prioritize named features and nearby features relative to the map center.
• Candidate display is limited to a maximum of 50 total items and 30 peak items.
• Pressing the mountain button clears the previous mountain candidates and reference trails before searching again.
• Reference trail lines were changed from brown to a teal color for better visibility on the map.
• Map data is treated as reference information; users should also check official sources and local conditions.

### 2.2 — 2026-07-11

This version of ClimbOn improves the connection between route planning, recording, and party sharing.

You can now create a share code from a saved route, and participants can join the party from the Recording screen using that code. Shared routes can be loaded from the Recording screen, and party members’ latest locations can be shown on the map. Tapping a member in the location list centers the map on that person.

Shared route geometry is now stored in a lightweight form, so imported shared routes can preserve more of the generated route shape instead of only drawing straight lines between planning points.

Location sharing is reference information only. GPS accuracy, network conditions, and update timing may cause delays, missing updates, or location errors. Always use paper maps, official information, weather checks, proper equipment, and your own judgment when hiking.

### 2.1 — 2026-06-09

• Improved place search in the Planning tab
• You can now view searched locations on the map and add them directly as a route start point
• Added search history for quicker access to previously viewed places
• You can now tap locations on satellite and labeled maps to use them as the starting point for a plan

### 2.0 — 2026-06-07

fixed some bugs

### 1.9 — 2026-05-31

Adding weather checkin capability
