## What is ClipLit?

Cliplit turns short videos into captioned, share-ready clips right on your iPhone.

Import a video from Photos or Files, let Apple's on-device Speech framework transcribe the audio, fix any words, choose a caption style, preview the timing, then export a burned-in MP4 to Photos. Your video and audio stay on your device. There is no account, no cloud queue, and no advertising SDK.

Version 2.1 adds an Export Readiness advisor in Preview plus an offline Creator Playbook in Settings. Before you render, Cliplit checks the clip for subtitle timing, reading speed, caption contrast, platform safe zones, and deliverable completeness. The new playbook adds an 18,750-entry local reference pack of caption hooks, readability rules, safe-zone notes, subtitle delivery checklists, and accessibility reminders for creators working without a network connection.

Cliplit is built for creators, small businesses, teachers, coaches, and anyone who wants fast readable captions without uploading private clips to another service.

Features:
- On-device speech transcription that stays in sync, even on longer clips
- Import from Photos, Files, iCloud Drive, and compatible document providers
- Editable word-by-word transcript
- Eight caption styles, including true left-to-right karaoke word fill and a high-contrast Accessible style
- Clean two-line caption layout and crisp burned-in text
- Caption cadence control: one word, phrase, or full line
- Auto emoji and power-word highlights using deterministic offline rules
- Caption position control with live platform safe-zone checking and Fit all platforms placement
- Export Readiness advisor for timing, readability, contrast, safe zones, and deliverables
- Offline Creator Playbook with 18,750 caption drills, hook rewrites, safe-zone notes, and export checklists
- Accessibility-first: SDH sound cues like [music], WCAG-AA contrast labels, and Reduce Motion support
- Create SRT, WebVTT, or plain-text transcript files with readable cue merging
- Live caption preview synced to playback
- Burned-in MP4 export to Photos
- No login, no tracking, no advertising SDK

Notes:
- Best with clear speech and short vertical videos.
- Speech recognition availability depends on the languages and on-device models supported by iOS.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2 — 2026-08-21

Adds Export Readiness checks for caption timing, reading speed, contrast, safe zones, and deliverable completeness. An expanded offline Creator Playbook supports caption and accessibility review without a network connection.

### 2.1 — 2026-06-30

## Version 2.1

Preview now includes Export Readiness, a creator checklist that catches common caption problems before the final render.

Cliplit checks:
- Word timing and transcript drift
- Caption reading speed
- Platform safe-zone placement
- WCAG-AA style contrast
- Subtitle and transcript deliverable readiness
- Optional creator polish such as emphasis, clean captions, and saved looks

Settings now includes an offline Creator Playbook backed by an 18,750-entry local reference pack. It gives creators field-ready prompts for opening hooks, caption readability, safe-zone placement, accessibility, and export packaging without needing a network connection.

Each report gives a score, a plain-language grade, and short next steps. This makes Cliplit feel more like a field-ready captioning workstation: creators can spot fast captions, low contrast, or hidden lower-third placement before spending time on a final export.

This release also refreshes screenshots, support copy, and App Store metadata so they match the current 2.1 interface.

### 2.0 — 2026-06-21

ClipLit 2.0 — a pro upgrade for your caption tool, still 100% offline.

• Entrance animations: Pop, Slide, Fade, Typewriter, or Auto for your captions.
• Clean Captions: on-device profanity masking, in both the burned-in video and the SRT/VTT.
• Caption Quality Meter: a reading-speed (characters-per-second) check that warns on too-fast cues.
• Find & Replace across your transcript, with timing preserved.
• One-tap filler-word cleanup (um, uh, er).
• Brand Kit: a saved highlight color and your default caption look, applied to new clips.

Your video is transcribed and captioned entirely on your device — nothing is ever uploaded.

### 1.3 — 2026-06-20

Captions that don't drift. Cliplit now transcribes clips of any length on-device without the timing drift that affected longer videos, renders clean two-line captions, and burns in crisper export text than ever. A more reliable, more professional result every time.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-19

Cliplit - What's New

Version 1.2

Two creator-requested upgrades, both fully offline:

Export subtitle files (SRT, WebVTT, or plain transcript).
Cliplit already knows exactly when every word is spoken - now you can save that timing as a real, editable file. Export a standard `.srt` to upload captions to YouTube, hand a transcript to a client, send to a translator, or re-style in a desktop editor. Choose WebVTT (`.vtt`) for web/HTML5 players, or a clean plain-text transcript with no timecodes for show notes and blogs. It's free - no unlock needed - because it's your words, not a new render.

Caption position with platform safe-zone checking.
Pick exactly where your captions sit - top, upper middle, center, lower third, or bottom - right in the preview, with a live check against TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook Reels. Cliplit warns you the moment a caption would land under a platform's profile chrome, engagement buttons, or caption bar, and confirms when your text is clear everywhere. No more captions hidden behind the interface.

Plus: a refreshed preview screen and the usual reliability polish. Still no account, no ads, no tracking, no subscription - everything runs on your iPhone.
