### 4/5 — Its pretty good

*2026-09-02, version 3.17.0*

Its pretty good. I recommend trying it and i like it

### 2/5 — Bad AI translations

*2026-08-30, version 3.16.1*

I used this for a while and was enjoying it, but then realised the translations were not done by humans - example ‘rare steak’ in Chinese was translated as 少见的牛排。Which means rare as in rarely seen - so it’s obviously a direct (and incorrect) translation from the English. I couldn’t trust the app after that

### 4/5 — Great App

*2026-08-29, version 3.16.1*

The app is simple yet incredibly useful for learning vocabulary and getting a sense of how grammar is formed. The explanation button under each sentance is really helpful to understand why certain sentances are formed the way they are.
The only negative is how if you want to use the app for free there is a three lesson limit per day. However, other than that, great app!

### 3/5 — Wanted to like it

*2026-08-11, version 3.14.0*

I wanted to like it but it was clear that they use too much AI for providing explanations for words. It’s just not reliable enough for me to invest in.

### 4/5 — Challenging

*2026-08-04, version 3.13.0*

Needs some corrections
Of grammar explanations which are incorrect . Otherwise generally it’s very good

### 3/5 — Go pro? Go pro? Go pro?

*2026-08-04, version 3.13.0*

Probably a decent app if you want to go pro.
Limited daily amounts otherwise. Constantly asks you to go pro.

### 4/5 — Worth it!

*2026-07-28*

This is a remarkable piece of work. Very useful, well crafted. Just two things to improve. 1: voices in Russian sound non natural, very often robotic. For example, Yandex also uses voices generator, but the result sounds Russian. Whereas in Clozemaster, especially when used on a daily basis, you’re just fed up. 2: the explanations are often inconsistent, incorrect, and incomplete. I’m talking about the Russian language. A more polished version is needed for those who really want to learn deeply, not just superficially.

**Developer response:** Hi Vlad, thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and for the positive overall comments and rating.
We've released an update just today that enhances the explanations, as some were being cut off due to a bug. Regarding voices/ TTS, this will actually depend on the collection. We’ve been using some new, improved, and more natural-sounding voices since March this year; however, sometimes the sentence will default to your device's (Russian or not) built-in voice, which results in this robotic effect.
When you see this again, or if you experience it often in a collection, please reach out to hello@clozemaster.com so we can help you enhance it. We'd love to provide you a full 5/5 usage experience.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app - worth buying

*2026-07-17, version 3.11.2*

This app has been brilliant in helping me learn. I really like how you can customise the way questions are set up, whether you get 4 choices or have to type the word, whether you do written or audio questions. Really good and far more productive than duolingo, at least in my opinion. Great work and well worth paying for the full version.
One request - a new update has caused the "Teach me/Submit" button to be just above the keyboard when typing an answer. Fine. But the issue is it will reactively change from "Teach me" to then show "Submit" when you have typed the write answer. This effectively makes it a really big hint tool, and sights right in your periphery! And I'm at a point in my learning journey where I have turned off all the hints, but I can't turn this off. Please fix and this app will be perfect again.

### 5/5 — Language app for serious learners

*2026-07-16, version 3.10.1*

No nobrainers, just straight to the point: learning a language. You must have some basic knowledge of the alphabet and sounds before starting a very different language from your native one.

### 4/5 — Please Fix Radio Function

*2026-07-15, version 3.10.1*

I have been using the radio function for months for my custom sentences, but since the last update, it only plays a few sentences, and the app completely shuts down without any reason. Please fix the bug.

### 4/5 — helpful for vacabulary, but uses genAI and eats battery

*2026-07-10, version 3.10.1*

I paid for lifetime access (about the cost of four years, at the time) and would like to see this language-learning tool quantitatively shine for its target audience (beginner to intermediate, I think).
I used it years ago and it's still kinda rough around the edges. Some multiple-choice options are obviously wrong; mistyPed or poorly-choosen, which makes me wonder to what degree a robot did the work that a human would be better at?
There are disturbing, uncanny-valley images generated by robots, and that might help with remembering definitions but at what cost? A bunch of creepy robot slop that costs a lot of electricity to make, rather than time and attention from human artists who are alive and like food and exercise, who love and experience awe?
Lastly, Clozemaster eats the battery on this iPad; why? If the questions are already made, and I seldom use the audio, and the visuals are (appreciably) basic, why does this app need so much juice? Is it generating the image, description, and/or the audio even if I don't use those features?

### 5/5 — The best learning app

*2026-07-08, version 3.10.1*

I enjoyed using this learning new languages and content .

### 5/5 — The App Ive been looking for

*2026-07-06, version 3.10.1*

Thank you for actually explaining why a word in a sentence is there and what it means to the language when translated back to English.

### 5/5 — Great language tool

*2026-06-27*

Excellent language practice.

**Developer response:** Hi C, many thanks for the compliment and flawless 5/5 ⭐️ rating!

### 2/5 — Not for me

*2026-06-22, version 3.7.0*

I found the structure of this harder than other apps. I don’t like having a sentence I don’t understand and then just paragraphs of explanation underneath. For me, it doesn’t stick in my head and I zone out easily.

### 5/5 — Great!

*2026-06-19, version 3.7.0*

I would recommend this app to anyone learning any language at any level!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Dreadful update

*2026-08-21, version 3.16.1*

Hate the latest update. It's almost unusable. Every feature I liked has been trashed. For example touching a word used to take you straight to the wiktionary entry. The "Beautiful new dictionary" which replaces that is quite capable of confidently spewing out random garbage on occasion, making it worse than useless. Deleted the app and switched to the web based version. They haven't ruined that (yet).

As requested I updated the app and replied to the developer response with a detailed description of nine or ten problems with the app. If they resolve any of them I will update my review.

### 1/5 — Won’t permit me to re sign in

*2026-08-15, version 3.14.0*

The app said that I could use it for connection issues but my phone had a strong Internet connection. I tried sign out and resigning in but it didn’t work as the app wouldn’t log me back as it stated it needed me email. I kept retyping it but it didn’t work. I still kept getting the same message regardless of what I did.

### 1/5 — They don’t honor the 7 day trial

*2026-08-15, version 3.14.0*

Multiple mistakes in Portuguese and the 7 day trial period didn’t last 7 days, it was impossible to cancel the billing after 6 days.

### 1/5 — La cuenta ya exista

*2026-08-09, version 3.13.0*

La cuenta con este correo electrónico ya existe. Genial. Es casi como si estuviera intentando crear una cuenta nueva.

### 1/5 — $80?! It’s a flash card app!!!

*2026-05-21, version 3.6.0*

Was my favorite way to study for a long time.. novel approach to flash card learning and a great supplement to any routine

But this latest update locked reviewing >30 words behind a $80 annual fee. I understand paywalling new features- but retroactively limiting the core utility of the app? And a reoccurring subscription??? Obnoxiously greedy

There’s quite a few Flash Card Apps out there that don’t charge $80 to use, I’ll be giving them a shot

### 1/5 — Abysmal, frustrating, difficult-to-use UI

*2026-05-01, version 3.4.1*

Why is every update making the UI harder and harder to use????? It is absolutely mind-boggling. And now the audio is screwed up in a new way. A once-great app is sabotaging itself.

### 1/5 — Useless app.

*2026-02-22, version 2.12.3*

Don’t waste your time. I hope my review helps someone.

### 1/5 — Extremely frustrating “improvements”

*2026-02-12, version 2.12.3*

I’m a long-time user, and over the years, especially recently, the app has become more and more frustrating to use due to “improvements”, while years’ old issues persist. The impression I get is that the developer(s) has/have never actually used this app before to know what’s actually useful & desirable or to know what this app used to be like, when it was set apart from all other language apps, and they don’t test for bugs at all. Features aside, there are lots of errors in the latest fluency fast tracks that don’t get addressed. My oldest reports are at least a year old now, give or take a few months. It’s becoming not worth it to use the app, and, while for a long time I would have been one of this app’s biggest evangelists, I would not and do not recommend it anymore. I’m not mad; I’m just very disappointed.

### 1/5 — GenAI garbage

*2025-12-22, version 2.11.18*

AI slop. Deleted the second I saw "generated by ChatGPT" in an explanation.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best

*2026-08-27, version 3.16.1*

Really good app! I was trying three different and this one worked best for me. Also keeps me motivated :)

### 5/5 — Well Designed

*2026-08-26, version 3.16.1*

This app is phenomenal and so easy to navigate. Personally I prefer this to other language apps like Duolingo and Ling etc because it actually gets straight real and applicable sentences. Solo vocab is so boring you fall off.

### 5/5 — Great explanations

*2026-08-24, version 3.16.1*

I love how each part of a sentence is explained. Not just the words themselves but how they relate to rest of the sentence.

### 5/5 — The best APP for filling GAPS !

*2026-08-24, version 3.16.1*

I have already reviewed this app and it’s not something often do but I’m re- reviewing it. Anyone that is struggling to fill gaps in a sentence or words. This is the perfect app to do it. I’ve not come across anything like it in my entire history of Chinese study - you will 100% learn more from this app than anything else!

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2026-08-23, version 3.16.1*

Been a long time user of this app and it keeps getting better and better. Was a Duolingo user previously. This is much better at learning a language. The application is clean and easy to use.

### 5/5 — Amazing so far

*2026-08-10, version 3.13.0*

So far everything is working as intended. I am starting to understand the contexts needed to write Polish and Ukrainian words.

### 5/5 — It worked after I had tried everything else for 10 years!

*2026-08-09, version 3.13.0*

I tried a bunch of other apps in order to learn Danish. They helped me learn a word at a time, but I really didn't understand anything when I heard real Danish people speaking full sentences. After 10 years of casual study and multiple trips to Denmark, I was still a beginner. I could read a bunch of Danish, but not understand spoken Danish. Then I tried Clozemaster and it just started working. I highly recommend this for people who I trying to go beyond beginner in a language. The hands-free option (paid) is extra nice because you can use it while doing chores, etc., to pick up exposure to a language without having to set aside extra time. I like to use it hands-free when I am cooking and doing dishes in the kitchen. Thank you, devs. I love this app!

### 5/5 — Very good

*2026-08-03, version 3.13.0*

Very very very very good

### 5/5 — New favorite language app!

*2026-07-30, version 3.13.0*

A reviewer compared this app very favorably to others so I reluctantly gave it a try. I have used many other apps and websites, some for years. Clozemaster is my new favorite. It's not at all what I expected from the name.

### 5/5 — Hi

*2026-07-25, version 3.11.2*

Thanks for the instructions, so nice to have a little something for those with little to offer in return, save for promoting Clozemaster loud and long amongst my colleagues and friends. Thank you.
