## What is Co?

Compose faster. Create more.

Co-Composer is an iPad companion app designed for Film, TV, and Game composers who want intuitive, touch-based control of their sample libraries.

•	MIDI Keyswitch Buttons
Use templates or import articulation set files from Logic Pro or Expression Map files from Cubase to build banks of articulation keyswitch buttons automatically. Or build your own from scratch! No more guessing MIDI note triggers.

•	Integration with Logic - Co-Composer Focus
Use in conjunction with the Co-Composer Focus Mac App to map your logic sessions' tracks and assign your Co-Composer articulation banks to them. Then track selections will automatically focus on the relevant articulation bank.

•	Expressive CC Faders
Set up to six large, responsive faders to control dynamics, expression, vibrato, or any other MIDI CC. Achieve nuanced performance without the need for expensive or unreliable hardware controllers.

•	Harmonic Modulation Assistant
Instantly explore musical movement between chords. Choose a start and destination chord, and let Co-Composer suggest 1–4 pivot chords across nine “flavours” of colour and chromaticism — from smooth to adventurous.

•	Runs Composer
Build a melodic run from a number of melodic shapes and harmonic modes and scales by start and end note. Hold down on the run to play it at your chosen tempo straight to your DAW for a fast, one-touch run in your compositions.

Whether you’re sketching themes, recording expressive mockups, or exploring new harmonic pathways, Co-Composer keeps you in the creative flow by making articulation switching, CC shaping, and modulation exploration fast, visual, and musical.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2 — 2026-08-16

Co-Composer v2.2

This version brings bug fixes and general improvements and includes:
- compatibility for upcoming iOS versions
- support for an upcoming Cubase for Mac integration providing global bank focus by unique track names using a Cubase MIDI Remote Script/Surface and standalone mapping app. (To be made available at elliotnicklin.com/co-composer)

### 2.1 — 2026-06-19

Co-Composer v2.1 now allows articulation buttons to play multiple MIDI events for a single articulation (for libraries which stack multiple midi values for a single articulation like VSL etc.). In the add/edit articulation window, tap the Plus + button to add up to 5 midi Note/CCs for a single articulation button.

### 2.0 — 2026-05-23

What’s New in Version 2

Co-Composer v2 is a major update including compatibility with the Co-Composer Focus Mac app (www.elliotnicklin.com/co-composer) with stronger Logic Pro workflow support, improved faders, better articulation handling and a more flexible workspace experience.

New in this version:

* Co-Composer Focus integration
    Co-Composer can now connect with the new Mac companion app, Co-Composer Focus, to support Logic Pro track following, project-based mappings, automatic MIDI connection and faster movement between Logic tracks and matching iPad banks.
*Cubase Expression Map import
    Import a single or multiple .expressionmap file/s in the user templates section to automatically build an articulation bank of buttons corresponding to the "Trigger" values of each expression in your map. In addition to existing Logic Pro articulation set .plist import, now also supporting multiple files in 1 import.
* New appearance controls
    Choose Co-Composer’s appearance directly inside the app, including light and dark modes, without needing to change your whole iPad system appearance.
* Focus Mode
    Focus mode has been refined for a more modern appearance and much faster switching when using Co-Composer Focus. (MIDI events are still usable as focus triggers if you configure your DAW to output the desired MIDI event when selecting a track)
* Improved fader behaviour
    Faders have been refined for smoother control, better responsiveness and more reliable performance during real-time use.
* More stable Logic Pro Articulation Set imports
    Importing Logic articulation sets is now more reliable, with improved handling for larger sets, complex folder imports and user template creation.
* New articulation templates and buttons, including Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra and Cinematic Studio Strings (CSS)
* Improved workspace editing
* iPad interface polish
* More reliable saved setups
    Workspace, template and mapping-related data is handled more carefully, reducing cases where setups could become stale or inconsistent.
* General beta fixes and performance improvements
    Includes many smaller fixes across importing, editing, MIDI behaviour, UI updates and day-to-day reliability.

### 1.5 — 2026-03-30

v1.5 The Navigation Update

- Navigation events (Note/PC) can now be exported as a binary file, to be shared to your Mac via AirDrop and imported into Logic Pro's Controller Assignments Window as a custom assignments file
- This will populate your banks' navigation events as Mackie-style track selection assignments which you can trigger by tapping the Bank header/title of your articulation bank
(N.B. You will still need to input the correct index of the relevant Logic Track for each assignment. Use the Pin-to-Track option to keep the assignment locked to the relevant track but please note, while Logic Pro does now save pinned control assignments since Logic Pro 12.0, it does not appear to do so for Saved Templates. Use a standard project save if you require pinned control assignments for Co-Composer Navigation).

- You can now hold the delete bank button on any bank in Edit mode to delete all banks at once, or export the workspace and delete all automatically when export is complete

- Focus events now trigger more efficiently when using the Co-Composer Focus Beta Mac App (http://elliotnicklin.com/co-composer)

### 1.4 — 2026-03-24

The Pinned Bank/CC Update - v1.4

- Use CC 0-127, Data lane 0-127 across 16 channels for articulation buttons in addition to MIDI notes
- In edit bank, pin a bank of articulations (or CC macros) to keep it at the top of the articulation panel

- Additional Spitfire Studio Strings templates
- Additional button icons

- Bug fixes and improvements to MIDI session persistence
- Cosmetic enhancements for iOS26/iPadOS26+
