I used cogwheels for the first time today as I needed a car to take my son to his prom and my car is out of action currently. The app is great and easy to use, I hired a hybrid car which you unlock using the app. Upon finding the car which I didn’t easily using the app- I found there was substantial damage to one side and wheel trim which I photographed and emailed proof of before I even opened the car. Exterior was quite dirt so ended up giving it a quick clean. Booked for 4.5 hours and paid almost £60 altogether, great if you need a car quickly but too expensive to use regularly ### 3/5 — It’s okay but not great *2026-06-01, version 2.18.7* I had a real problem trying to use the app to lock the car in a covered car park today. I had to abort and go and park outside in the pouring rain. The car that I use periodically is never particularly clean. Maybe it’s just the people who use it in my area, but that, too, is disappointing. Who checks the cleanliness of the Co Wheels vehicles? It’s not a cheap service and I would have expected that the cleanliness would be addressed. After all, the company is quick enough to take their payments for rental and mileage! Zip car in London was a much better service than this company…… ### 1/5 — Impossible to verify driving licence via app *2024-10-25, version 2.4.1* 1. The required selfie of applicant holding a driving licence does not work as the image of a selfie is mirrored and cannot match up the dotted lines profile that’s required . 2. Deleting the account does not function as the first attempt to delete the account is met with a pop-up that says “the user has a pending deletion request” This means trying to cancel within 14 days can only be done via a phone number that no one answers. ### 5/5 — Great app *2024-08-03, version 2.4.1* Easy to use and navigate, amazing customer service and quick response ### 5/5 — Recent improvements are welcomed *2024-07-12, version 2.4.1* The app started as functional but a bit clunky. Recent improvements are very much welcomed. ### 5/5 — Very good *2024-07-09, version 2.4.1* Very good if you don't own a car. ### 1/5 — Customer support can ghost you *2024-05-24, version 2.3.3* Since this company is completely operating remotely there’s no one who will ensure that the condition of the car you returned is acceptable to them or the designated CC parking bay is not occupied. So, it’s all customers responsibility. They operate in a way where they put customers at a very high financial risk. Imagine if you have returned your car and didn’t take pictures, and someone wrecked it, they will come after you saying you did it and it’s the same with parking and any other potential issue. If you parked in the wrong bay because the designated one is occupied, whether it’s 2am in the night, you gotta inform them. If they will get a parking ticket, there is literally no one from Co- wheels who is ensuring that car is parked correctly or returned in the good condition. When you seek explanation, they will ghost you but mind it they won’t forget to charge £5 every month from your account, despite you categorically told them to cancel your membership. You pay more to traditional car rental companies but there is a peace of mind. Infact Turo is much better for a long term hire. They seemed to have refined the methodology and ability to provide access for consumers to use their cars. I’d like to see a little more FAQs in the app for support, regarding what to expect as a first time customer but YouTube and their website provided most of those answers. ### 1/5 — Poor application *2024-02-12, version 1.8.6* Getting stucked on iPhone 15 pro max , I need to uninstall and install each and every time . Did now 17 times no use . ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Won’t let me drive *2026-07-12, version 2.19.5* I’ve been with co wheels for years and have always used it successfully in the past. I have a license with 3 points on, I have shared my current dvla license code and it has been verified according to my profile. But when I come to hire it just tells me they need to perform annual checks and cannot hire the car to me, even tho they have my most up to date license code. And they have been charging me monthly fees throughout. ### 1/5 — Confusing sign up fee charged me twice! *2026-07-05, version 2.19.5* The sign up fees are unclear so feel it charges twice £10 then £12.50 which was unexpected. Incredibly expensive, could probably hire a car for a full day for the cost of 2 hours + sign up. The app is terrible, it’s full of spelling mistakes and you have to sign up to even see how much this is going to cost to use one of these cars. Then you when you try to sign up you can’t because the register button is greyed out even after checking that I have entered the required info and accepted the T&Cs. ### 1/5 — Useless *2025-06-28, version 2.11.0* Co wheels used to be a good service. Now impossible to get an answer when things go wrong, which they increasingly do. If there were an alternative I would use it.
