I tried plenty of other apps like Amphetamine, Taurine,insomniax and owly, but this is the closest app to caffeine that have a nice interface. It’s simple, beautiful, and easy to use. ### 5/5 — Great App Great Updates & Customer Service *2015-10-23* This app is so simple and works so well that I can’t even think of anything bad to say about it. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do and it has some nice extras and now a functional update with timer. It’s perfect. You guys are great ### 5/5 — Solid Replacement for Caffeine *2015-09-17* It's basically Caffeine with a nicer icon that works on Retina screens and with dark menu bars, which is exactly what I was looking for. That being said there is one thing that always bothered me about Caffeine and remains an issue with this app - once I activate it I have no way of knowing how much "active" time is left. It would be nice to have a something along the lines of "active until 3:14pm" or "1:23:45 remaining" displayed somewhere in the menu, or maybe have an option to show the remaining time next to the icon in the menu bar. Thank you, Angelo ### 1/5 — Pricing is a Mystery *2023-08-09* I installed the free version per CalDigit Tech Support's recommendation to keep my monitor awake for my 2021 Macbook Pro (M1 Pro). I can't tell yet if I like the program, but I can't find out how much it costs to upgrade for the extras. When I click on "buy" it prompts for purchase, but I dont know what the price is. Can't find website or any documentation that states. I'm assuming is nominal, but who wants to blindly purchase something? Happy to change review if can resolve pricing. **Developer response:** Hey Greyt Guy, Coca is updated and pricing should be more clear now. Cheers, Angelo ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work with El Capitan *2020-01-20* Installed app. Set for 5 min (min), System Preferences set for 1 min (min). Hoping Coca would overwrite the System Preferences setting as I like the icon at the top for quick access. Screen shut down in 1 (one) minute. Uninstalled software. Bummer **Developer response:** Hey iMacMan1, I'm deeply sorry to have let you down on El Capitan. We introduced an El Capitan update with v1.2.5, for these issues. These days we also offer v2 for macOS Tahoe and onwards, we hope if you ever give Coca another chance, we can convince you. It does exactly what it is supposed to do and does it well. I saw that I could add features by making an in-app purchase and like to support developers who make software that I use. I clicked through the buying procedure expecting at some point to be told a price, but never was. Toward the end there was a dialog that said I could unlock the features for "free". With some trepidation I clicked through and, still with no disclosure of a price, was charged $15.49. I'm reluctant to attribute this to sleaziness and did want to support the developers, so I'm OK with it. But, be warned that if you exercise the in-app purchase option, that's what will happen. I would have preferred to contact the developers directly to discuss this, but I have not found any contact information associated with the app except addresses that are defunct or flagged as insecure by my browser. I get that this is an old app, maybe it is no longer supported, but the overall customer experience is not good. That said, I will keep using it because, after all, it works and I've paid for it. **Developer response:** Hey dmrosephd, I know it is a long time since your review but maybe you want to give Coca another chance. I don’t even leave reviews… for anything but when I saw the reviews were so scarce, I HAD TO FIND OUT HOW TO LEAVE A REVIEW. Yall, it works, just click download. **Developer response:** Thank you so much for taking the time to review, it means a lot for an independently developed app. ### 5/5 — It just works *2024-07-09* What a novel approach, it works, as advertised, no bugs, intuitive. Sort of reminds me of what Apple software used to be like. I frequently run in closed clamshell mode and to to run long processes in this mode. I activate Coca indefinately when the Mac is powered. Flawless. Also avoids improperly ejected disks for those who haven't discovered Jettison. ### 5/5 — Big Help! *2024-01-13* If you have to have apps run in the background while you're away from your computer, this is an excellent solution! ### 5/5 — An improvement over Caffeine! *2016-11-03* I was VERY hesitant to switch over from Caffeine to Coca. It was lightweight and dependable, except for a few quirks that didn’t impact my use case. Recently, I discovered a new batch of caffeine-like programs that have been updated for the modern macOS, unlike Caffeine. I tried Amphetamine a few months ago but discovered that it consumes more background CPU, so it was quickly uninstalled. Coca, on the other hand, offers the same functionality as Caffeine with lighter resource usage in an updated package. After using and monitoring the app for a few minutes, I quickly purchased the in-app extra to support the developer. This is the perfect Caffeine replacement. ## Most praised reviews (5 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Better than caffeine *2016-04-26* Used to use caffeine for this. Hated that it messed up my dark menu bar. Complained wrote reviews, they didn’t seem to care. Changed over to this after reading a redit post. Works awesome, dark menu support and I love that it shows you hoe much time is left when clicking the menu icon. Well done, keep up the good work. ### 5/5 — Nice find... *2016-02-21* I have loved caffeine but the small UI bugs with the latest OS X were starting to get on my nerves and went looking for a fix. Well I found this programe and it is Great, better then caffeine. And this works very well with Yosemite/El Capitan plus added features ### 5/5 — Nice App; Good Replacement for Caffeine *2015-12-15* This is a nice, quick, and easy app to use. Most importantly; it's free! I used to use Caffeine but I like this better because the design is newer and doesn't stand out with the new OS. Great update! It has timer options like (5 min to 1 hour) or indefinitely. There are also options to change the leaf icon to a cup (but it's a paid upgrade). ### 5/5 — Solid app backed by excellent customer service *2015-12-15* It is great to have someone bring Caffeine up to date. I found a bug in version 1.2.3 and Angelo promised to look into it, even apologizing for not being able to attend to it immediately.
