Code Blue Monitor turns an iPad into a patient monitor and defibrillator for emergency response training, with an iPhone as the instructor's remote. Change the rhythm and vital signs from your hand, and the monitor in front of the learners changes — so they notice the deterioration themselves instead of being told. Made by the instructors of NCLS, a resuscitation course for nurses in Japan, and used in every course we run. WHAT IT DOES - 35 ECG rhythms: sinus, atrial, ventricular, arrest rhythms, every AV block, ST changes, hyperkalemia, paced rhythm - Heart rate measured from the R–R interval, so Wenckebach and bigeminy behave like the real thing - Defibrillator with energy dial, charge, shock, synchronised cardioversion and transcutaneous pacing with capture - Vital signs — HR, NIBP, SpO₂, respiratory rate, EtCO₂, temperature, arterial line — controlled with sliders - Nothing shows until the sensor is attached or the measurement is taken - Hide any value individually for physical assessment practice - 12-lead ECG reconstructed from the current rhythm, with selectable infarct location - 23 blood gas cases, 4 chest X-rays, 3 echo clips, and a patient chart - Breath sounds (6) and heart sounds (6) that follow the ECG — irregular in AF, silent when there is no pulse - Pupil examination with a working light reflex - Chest compression fraction and an event log for debriefing - Ambient sounds: siren, in-hospital emergency call, Code Blue announcement TWO DEVICES, NO NETWORK The iPad (monitor) and iPhone (remote) connect directly to each other. Sounds follow the ECG beats — irregular in AF, fast in VT, silent when there is no pulse. ・Pupil examination: normal, miosis, mydriasis, anisocoria (right / left) and sluggish reflex. Shine the penlight to see the direct and consensual light reflex. ・Added snoring respiration (tongue obstruction) to breath sounds. ・Added a Code Blue overhead announcement to ambient sounds. ■ Improvements ・Remote buttons in three columns, with device controls moved to the top. ・Removed vital presets; use the individual sliders. ・The two devices now connect more reliably, with automatic retries and a connection guide on the home screen. ・New app icon. ■ Fixes ・Fixed buttons at the top of the screen being hidden in portrait orientation. ・Fixed the 12-lead report remaining in Japanese when the app was set to English. ・Fixed blood pressure values overflowing their panel. ### 1.7 — 2026-09-03 ■ New ・Added four ECG rhythms: hypokalemia with U waves, pericarditis with diffuse ST elevation, ventricular paced rhythm, and shark-fin ST elevation — 35 in total. ・Added eleven blood gas cases, including six stages of cardiac arrest (prolonged resuscitation, immediately after ROSC, asphyxia, hyperkalemia, hypokalemia), plus tension pneumothorax and diabetic ketoacidosis — 23 in total. ・Added a chest X-ray of tension pneumothorax. ・Pulse palpation now works before the monitor is switched on, following the rhythm you have set — for checking the pulse before the monitor is attached. ・CCF (chest compression fraction) is now shown on the remote as well, changing color below 60%. ■ Improvements ・The two devices now connect more reliably. If the first attempt fails, the app keeps retrying on its own, and the remote shows that it is connecting. ・Added guidance on the home screen for connecting two devices (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Local Network permission). ・Reworked the pulse sound so it is no longer masked by the monitor's QRS beep, which is quietened while you palpate. ・The QRS beep now sounds from the ECG itself, as on a real monitor.
