## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.4 — 2026-10-28

What's New for server admins
Admins now get a What's New page under Settings > Administration. It shows the latest Codex and Codex Reader news, and tells you when a newer version of Codex is available for your server. Reading the news in the app also clears it in Codex Web. It needs Codex 2.7 or later; on older servers the app works exactly as before.

Reliability
Improvements to how the app detects and reports freezes, to help us fix them faster.

### 1.1.3 — 2026-10-23

Moving to the next chapter now releases the previous chapter's pages straight away, keeping memory use lower during long reading sessions.

Better diagnostics for slow page turns: the app now notices when the screen stops responding, even briefly, and records it in Settings > Logs along with memory use and the device's temperature. If you share diagnostics, these freezes are included so they can be tracked down and fixed.

### 1.1.2 — 2026-10-20

Faster page turns on devices with less memory
- Comic pages are now loaded at the size your screen shows them, not at full scan size. Each page takes far less memory, so more of them stay ready and page turns stay quick, especially on older iPads.
- Fixed a problem where closed books kept their pages in memory. Over a long reading session this could slow page turns down, or make them fast one moment and slow the next.
- When the system runs low on memory, the pages right next to the one you're reading are now kept, so turning the page doesn't wait for a reload.

Sharper zoom
- Zooming into a comic page now shows the original full-quality page instead of an enlarged copy of the screen-size one.

Resized pages kept in the reading cache
- Resized pages are saved alongside the downloaded book, so reopening a book doesn't have to resize them again.
- They're listed separately in Settings > Storage and are cleared with the reading cache. If you notice any quality issues, you can turn off "Keep resized pages" there.

Help improve Codex Reader
- The app now asks once whether you'd like to share diagnostics: crashes, freezes and how long things like loading a page take. No personal data is sent: not your account, not your server's address, and not what you read. You can change your answer any time in Settings > Logs.

Fixes
- On Home, tapping or long-pressing a cover with an unusual shape, such as a wide double-page cover, now opens that book instead of the book next to it.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-10-19

Downloaded books no longer take up space in your iCloud backup.

Books you download for offline reading, along with their pages and covers, were being included in your device's iCloud backup, where they could use several gigabytes. Since they can always be downloaded again, they are now left out of the backup. Your reading progress and your list of downloads are still backed up.

After updating, open the app once and the next backup will free up the space.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-10-16

New
• Collections and read lists: the Actions menu on a series or book page now ticks the collections and read lists it is already in. Tap one to add or remove it. Holding a card in a grid opens the same checklist, which stays open while you make changes.
• Offline books get their own page: downloaded books now open to a book page with a Read button, an actions menu and links to the previous and next books, just like when you're online. The offline series page adds Read Next and Remove Downloads.

Improvements
• Sync tab: books waiting to sync are now folded under the count, so Sync Now and the history stay in view after a long time offline.
• Improved diagnostics in session reports, to help track down issues.
